What are the rest of you doing to keep busy through these adversities? I find it awfully difficult to NOT get depressed over med school applications. I often find myself doing things I didn't do before, like talk on the phone with friends instead of texting lol! Or, catch up with relatives I haven't kept in touch with throughout undergrad. If that ain't crazy, I don't know what is!

As always, :xf: and good :luck:

The best thing I do is pray and put my faith in my Lord. That gives me alot of hope. I know that my Lord knows of my situation, and I pray alot to Him each day. I put my complete trust and faith in Him. The wait is tough, and I pray from my heart that we get that interview and acceptance to HUCM. 🙂

It's been very quiet on the II front here lately. +pity+I hope there is another large chunk of II sent out soon! That would be the best holiday present ever!!!

I hope so too. Best holiday present and a very great way to end the year! 🙂

Thanks kaji! We appreciate your words of encouragement.

So I got so bored from not being school (even tho I'm keeping VERY busy lol) that I registered for a Pathophysiology course at a local public college hoping to brush up on my bio (been a while since that MCAT lol) and I guess it should be a good preview for med school? Either way, I'm excited to hit the books again. As crazy as it sounds, life outside the library (and books) can get pretty boring! haha

Good luck in your patho course! Im sure you're gonna kill it 🙂

*pertaining to the bolded section* hahahahaha I know what you mean. I went to some of my relative's houses last Thanksgiving and it felt a little weird since I haven't been anywhere other than the library, work, and school for the last 7 yrs (undergrad, grad, and now med). It kinda felt like I had to re-adapt back to regular life outside of a textbook and science geeks hahahaha.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

has anyone who's been accepted received the acceptance letter/paperwork in the mail? I heard of my acceptance from Ms. Walk over the phone about 3 weeks ago, but am still waiting for the papers... :d

to all of you waiting for a secondary or interview invite, keep the faith! send out positive energy and prayers, and it will be reciprocated 😀

Thanks, sweetness. I find that with a strong faith in God, one will rarely feel lonely or depressed. That helps a lot. I'm also thankful of God for my supportive family. I'm having an amazing time with everyone. I spend a lot of time with my siblings here at home, one in first grade and one in eighth. It's really fun being around them =) 😍

Yea lol people get confused and are like WOAH! I just don't want to make it a habit for them :meanie: and myself since, God-willing, I'll be busy with med school next year :xf:

As it is approaching the 15th of the month, a bunch of you all might be getting some wonderful news. And as for the rest of us applicants, I hope and pray we will prosper. With our Lord, anything is possible! 🙂

(I'm praying for us all. Please make prayers for me. All those prayers will help! 🙂)

Hope that everybody on here hears something good from Howard. I have been following this thread and was complete last month. Hope you all get to hear that good news from Howard!!!:xf:

So, since it's the 15th, has anyone received any good news?

As I was looking at this thread, it appears that not much applicants indicate when they get the interviews and some told when they get the acceptances. I'm certain that there are many people that have been interviewed and possibly accepted, but may gradually take their time to put it on here. It showed on here someone getting a last minute interview last week, but I was wondering has anyone else heard back? Do they pretty much send interviews at a certain time during the month?

Good afternoon everyone, and hope you all are well. I just had an opportunity to speak with Ms. Walk. (She is very awesome! 🙂) So far they have interviewed about 120 people, and they have about 180 people to go. Let's pray to our Lord that we will be able to get an interview here and an acceptance soon. Our Lord grant us the beautiful blessing to become a doctor! Amen! 🙂

(Prayer request for me. Please pray for me guys! 🙂)

So today is suppose to be the day some people said. Is it email, phone call, or letter for acceptance... I just can't wait anymore.

Yeah, hoping to hear that more people received interviews and acceptances soon. Talk about a Christmas present lol.

Does anyone know if Howard allows you to call in for all types of decisions? For example, do they give you the option to call and find out about your decision even if it is a rejection or waitlist? Thanks!

Hey Brittanyboop! I think if you have interviewed and the committee has made a decision then you will get an email indicating that you could call to find out your decision. Typically it would be an acceptance or being placed on the alternate list. I think Howard doesn't reject applicants until after May. So if you may not get an interview, you will be probably hear back after May from Howard.

For acceptances typically near the 15th of the month, so some applicants will be getting a great present soon. For interviews, it's between now until May. Hope that we hear sooner. 🙂

Cool. Hope this thread gets back lively again.

Just wondering if Howard screens for secondary applications or not.

I applied to Howard Nov. 30th and just today I received the invitation to fill out the secondary application.

I do not believe they screen for secondaries. However there is typically a time gap between submitting the primary app and receiving the secondary app due to the human factor of processing and sending out the materials. 🙂 When you submit your secondary, they'll also be a few week wait until you receive a complete e-mail because of the processing.

Yay! Welcome to the club! 😀

Thank you sister Paaakwasi. I hope we do hear good news soon! 🙂

At this point, if you applied to Howard this was an email they sent to all applicants:

"PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.

We send you Season's Greetings from the Nation's Capital. Please save this information.

The Admissions Office will be closed to visitors during the holiday break. There will be no FIRST FRIDAY OPEN HOUSE ON FRIDAY JANUARY 6, 2012. In addition, the University will be closed on Monday, December 26 and Monday, January 2, 2012.

With close to 7,000 verified applicants this year (the highest number ever at HUCM), we have been working on reviewing every secondary application and every AMCAS application. It is a tedious job, but we are moving forward during this quiet holiday period.

Other information:
We have completed about one-half of 300 interviews (our 2011-12 goal). We are now inviting candidates for January interviews. Interviews will continue through March or April. Invitations to interview are sent via email about three or four weeks in advance.

As a reminder:
- We will continue to acknowledge secondary applications via email. Please keep your spam blockers low.

- If you need an extension on your AMCAS, you must contact Ms Walk via email at [email protected]. Subject heading: EXTENSION REQUESTED. Please include the reasons for the delay in processing your AMCAS.

- ALL SECONDARIES (even those approved for an extension) MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN BY JANUARY 15.

-We will take the January MCAT (RETAKES ONLY); however, we understand that most of the January dates are full. It is up to you to let us know when you receive your scores in February. Please note: These scores will arrive very late in the application process and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to review your application again.

- Final status emails to those we have decided NOT to interview will begin being sent via email on March 1 after receipt of the January MCAT test scores and will continue through the end of May. (Exception: Alternates not selected will receive the final email after the first day of orientation.)

- Holiday Telephone hours: Thursday, December 22 from 2:00 - 3:30; Friday, December 23 from 2:00 - 3:30; Thursday, December 29 from 2:00 - 3:30, Friday, December 30 from 2:00 - 3:30. All times Eastern.

We hope that you will take time to enjoy the holidays. And, we wish you a joyous, safe, and RELAXING season.

FROM: THE ADMISSIONS STAFF FROM THE HOWARD U COLLEGE OF MEDICINE."

Yep, i just got the email about an hour ago too. There is still hope though. :luck::luck:😍.

Me too...KEEP HOPE ALIVE COMRADES!
BTW How are yall doing??

It appears that they are nearly halfway done with interviews and those whom they decided not to interview will hear after March. 🙁 (Hoping and praying we do interview at the school.) With the coming days ahead and in the holiday season and everyday, let's take some time to pray for ourselves and for each other. I put my complete trust in my Lord and with Him everything happens. I pray that we are able to get an interview and acceptance to this beautiful medical school. Keep up the hope, prayers, and faith. And know and believe with Him, anything is possible. And I pray that you all and your loved ones a Happy Holidays, and hope that we are prosperous and blessed in the upcoming year. 🙂

(I probably mentioned this before, but pray for me guys! I'm praying for myself and for all of you!) 🙂

Who didnt get a little excited when they saw that email from HUCM???
Be honest now...🙂

I was a little excited too. 🙂 Hoping and praying that the next email from HUCM, tells us to choose interview dates. 🙂

Definitely thought that too. My heart skipped a beat for a second and I was so anxious to see what was in the email. Then i saw to all applicants and i got sad lol.

Def thought it was an interview invite...ugh!!!!!!

Any of my fellow SDN-ers who have received the secondary application in the word doc. form, can you forward it to my email?!

When I received my invitation to complete the app they did not attach the word doc.

Send me a private message, and I can send you my email address.

Thanks so much, and God's providence to us ALL!

For sure. I love the Backstreet Boys lol!! I got all their old cds in my car.

In the car though!!! Dont tell me you will be jamming to this song as we all study for tests and what not...I might have to pull out the Billy Ocean!

I was worried it was going to be a rejection email.

From the email, it mentioned that those whom they might not interview they will send the rejection email starting March 1. 🙁

Until then, we gotta have strong faith and do our best. Don't sweat, be confident, and pray with your heart. Our Lord listens to our prayers. 🙂
