Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is a pre-secondary screen. But I am not sure about the statistics on that.

As far as the 57% completed secondary, I think it is def. because of the $75 upfront and the 7 essays. When I compare the Loyola secondary to the other secondaries I did that maybe had 1 or 2 essays, the Loyola secondary is BEAST. I guess that is to select for serious applicants. I can imagine, like I did last year, a lot of people apply to schools that their heart is not really in it just to increase their chances of getting in somewhere. But it seems that Loyola selects for applicants that are serious about Loyola. I think that's a good thing.

I'm a re-applicant and sat out the last two application cycles. Stritch is one of my top choices, if not number one choice. I am really eager to begin the application. I appreciate the application length too.

I was looking at the MSAR and its seems like an absurd cost per year for tuitiont + living + misc. Current students, how much money a year are you taking out?

OK below is the breakdown for our cost of attendance for MS1. In my opinion it is very doable in comparison to most private schools and many in our class receive some scholarship money too. Another thing to consider is that Stritch is in a low cost of living area of Chicago so my rent is cruising around 500/mo. Therefore, it is highly unlikely I will be using the entirety of my living allowance. The upperclassmen I have spoken to say they have more than enough $ to get by and end up not accepting all the loans they are offered.

I hope this helps you all. Enjoy!

SO anxious for this secondary! It was out by this time last year! Hopefully some time next week.

Hey Folks,

Incoming M1 here. This is just my two cents, but I would assume that admissions may wait until after we start school (July 25) to hand out this year's secondary. Also, the secondary e-mails came in waves last year, so do not fret if some of you get it before others. PM me if you have any questions. I would be glad to offer advice to the best of my ability.

Best of Luck to all of you

What were your numbers like hemostat? How much weight does Stritch put on your numbers vs other aspects? How was your interview there?

just received the secondary!

OOS from California

I'm too broke to pay the secondary fee as they make you pay before you fill it out, so can't post the prompts yet. I will do so if no one posts it before I do 🙂

Yeah I just received it too. There is a maximum of 25 single spaced lines per response.

Here are the questions:

1. Describe a valuable experience in your personal development? This might be a decision you have made, an achievement of which you are particularly proud of, or a person who has influenced your life.

2. Provide in detail an experience of working with individual(s) from diverse background(s). What was the experience? How did it have an impact on you?

3. Describe how you have dealt with a personal or academic challenge. Focus on what you learned about yourself and how it will help you during the challenges you might face in medical school.

4. What do you hope to contribute to the field of medicine? And what do you hope to get out of a career in medicine?

5. If you will not be enrolled as a full-time student during the current academic year, please explain what you will be doing prior to your planned matriculation into medical school?

6. Please use this space to bring the information in your AMCAS application up-to-date. Please indicate additional grades earned, alterations in your proposed coursework or graduation date, address changes, additions to your list of activities, and anything else you feel we should know.

25-30* lines

Is it still a paper application we have to print and mail in?

any idea what the screen looks like? from looking at the msar they have a pretty big range...

Haven't received it either. Their screen is low so we're definitely going to get it 🙂

Yea, I was 90% sure that it was just a low MCAT screen. I double checked with someone, and it definitely is. We'll get it soon.

Well, I'm sure they are doing it in waves. I'm sure we'll get it sometime this week.

Not to sound like a prick, but I'd be pretty shocked and worried if I didn't.

I don't have these essays done anyway, so I'm not too worried if I don't get it today or tomorrow. By Thursday though...lol

I don't have any other secondaries to do at the moment, so if I don't get it by tomorrow, I am definitely going to prewrite it.

I'm actually going to spend a little time on this one...

For what it's worth, my best friend's dad is on the admissions committee at Stritch and he told me to stress whatever community service you have in your essays.

no you can fill it in and submit it online

The paper one was a PAIN. Also, I bet schools who don't screen and send out secondaries in batches do so alphabetically. I seem to never get it the first day, and I'm closer to the end of the alphabet.

as much as i'm worried that i haven't gotten one yet, (and i know i'm probably echoing the sentiments of many) i'm a little relieved since i'm currently swamped in the number of secondaries i currently have to do.

Right. For me, I have zero to do right now. Just waiting on a few schools to send me them.

SO is the limit 25 lines or 25-30 lines? Because that's a pretty significant 20% difference....

geez how are you turning them around so quickly? if you don't mind me asking, what else are you doing other than secondaries (genuinely interested and not judging)?

I work full time 😉 (non-trad).

I'm a fast writer...always have been.

out of funds, have to wait until next month to complete me secondaries.... (except 1 due soon)

There's this beautiful thing called a credit card 🙂. I have overused mine a bit since apps came in...

Which boat? Haha, sorry, I feel like I'm in a ton of different boats these days: non-trads, a certain MCAT group, etc. Anyways, yes, we are still fairly early. Under three weeks should be perfectly fine.

don't forget about the applying to many, many schools boat

I really hope to get in this cycle, there's no way I'm going to qualify for the FAP next year. Got to ride these free secondaries this year.

You likely will if your MDApps is accurate

hope so, everyday i get that feeling that every secondary I submit is crap and I won't even be given the chance to interview, you know what i mean? (I'm not that neurotic).

yeah, and SDN makes it worse when seeing people already having interview invites or at least small pools

I work full time (and travel a lot) and my turnaround time on secondaries is usually a day or so, so it's definitely doable. I usually just check out last year's questions to get an idea of what I need to write. So many secondaries are similar, it's pretty easy (although the unique secondaries are even better!).
