What were your numbers like hemostat? How much weight does Stritch put on your numbers vs other aspects? How was your interview there?

33R, 3.61 Undergrad (Engineering), 4.00 Graduate . Loyola REALLY likes to see a balance in your application...someone who is well rounded and demonstrates an appreciation for more than just academics. Interviewing was really wonderful. I submitted my secondary sometime in September (got it a bit later) and got my interview invite in October. I interviewed in December and actually was admitted the following week. Sometimes you catch an interview right before an admissions meeting. Speaking from my own experience, the interview day was very relaxed and conversational. They try to address the basics...why med, your strengths, stuff on your application, etc. You may get an ethics question too, depending on your interviewer.

Nothing yet this morning. I really want to get this soon...

I have yet to get one either. 🙁 I wonder how they determine the order they send them out in. When was everyone verified on AMCAS who has received one?

I was verified on 6/2. It definitely doesn't go in order of verification haha.

Damn. Haha. Hmmm, my last name starts with B. Really curious how they do this!

Ok so my alphabetical theory is out the window, as mine is also near the end.

Edit: just kidding. I got the app about an hour ago, my phone just didn't alert me. Didn't see it until I actually logged onto my email 🙂

This morning or just now?

I got the secondary shortly before I posted. Don't worry Steve, I'm sure yours is coming. But I haven't gotten the Drexel one yet so as you said, they are probably doing batches.

My last name begins with an S and I submitted 6/1, for what it's worth regarding theorycrafting.

are people writing 25 lines in word and copy-pasting or are they writing 25 lines on the app itself? I ask because the lines on the app itself are about 70% of a standard word line's length.

I was wondering about this too..I decided that I would follow what was on the secondary because I think that's what they would see.

i actually have a lot of trouble with pressing submit (not the actual writing) -- second guessing, etc. 🙁 booo.

Good luck to everyone receiving secondaries and starting the application process with Loyola. (and other schools too! 😉 ) I just wanted to say take this secondary seriously. I KNOW it is a lot of writing, but I feel like they look hard at this when they are considering who to bring in for an interview. So, do your best, don't stress and hopefully I will see you all here later on this year for interviews! 😀

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!

No secondary for me. Although I am not complaining cuz there are about 10 lying on my desktop along with the MCAT books on the desk which should vanish out of my site on 29th of this month! lol

I got the secondary today too. Last name is towards the end of the alphabet and I was verified 7/12. Don't know if that means anything!

It's around 1600-1900 characters for 25-30 lines on the secondary application - assuming no paragraph breaks. But the instructions denoted 25-30 lines of single-spaced text.

Also, I don't think there is a maximum limitation, so you don't have to follow the instructions to the word. Just say whatever you need to say.

The instructions say 25 lines. idk what you all are talking about with the 25-30.

and yeah, there is no limit, but part of being a doctor is following directions. With tens of applicants to choose from for each spot, i'm not taking the risk of going overboard

it says in the attached file on the email 25-30, it's even underlined

Welcome! We are pleased that you have chosen to apply to Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and we look forward to receiving your Supplemental Application. We realize that completing this form can take a considerable amount of time, and although it is not necessary to elaborate in great detail, please do your best to answer these questions thoughtfully. It is recommended that you use a maximum of 25 single-spaced lines for your response to each of the first six questions. To designate paragraphs, please double-space.

(the emphasis is not mine; they have it bolded)

i'll stick with the 25 lines max as much as it kills me to whittle all my experiences down to <2k characters

acceptable answer to any of the questions."

I think 30 would be ok, kuz it just says recommended whereas the email actually gives a max range of 25-30

recommended max of 25 (online app) vs. ask for a max of 25-30 (pdf attachment) = tomato vs tomato

Just submitted my primary here last night. Wrote the essays this morning. Just waiting on the secondary now.

submitted at 3am yesterday! These essays were brutal.

Guys, c'mon, can't you see they're just TESTING us?? They want to see how we handle conflicting pieces of information, just like when we're doctors and one document tells us to administer 25 mL and another says 30 mL.

Clearly, they're going to manually count the number of lines we've typed and then auto-interview anyone who's written an average of 27.5 lines per answer. (+/- 0.2 LPA)

And reject stellar applicants whose final word ends on the 31st line.

For real though, pretty sure the 25-30 line limit is a remnant from previous years when it was a paper application you printed out (side note, Donnie sends hugs to Loyola for moving to online app!). They probably just liked that amount of information. I wouldn't panic, if you find yourself going over 30, you're probably rambling a bit. Do a little trimming and you'll be fine.

Agreed. I'm going over 30 lines for one of my essays. I'm going to convey all that I need to write a meaningful essay. If they only read to the 30th line, so be it.

How is everyone responding to the last prompt, which asks us to update our amcas info... and anything else you think the admissions should know?

Can anyone help me figure out what 25-30 lines in the application equates to in respect to lines (w/one inch margins) in MS Word? I'm trying to draft this, as I don't have the secondary yet, and am trying to figure out where to cut it off.

If you have anything to update them with do it

Shoot for ~19 MS word lines. Thats how long my longest essay is in Word, but I don't remember if that hit 25 or 30 lines in the secondary (once you submit, you can't see it anymore). The fields for the secondary are smaller than Word fields though.
