Anybody have any idea how many people are put on the wait-list and how much movement occurs?

Steve- you better be good at basketball. If not, your display picture has fooled me for 5 months.

Haha, sadly I'm not the best basketball player. I think height has something to do with that. My friend in my avatar was really good, though.

Pre-interview rejection… emailed the office… good luck to everyone!

Interviewing Thursday, anyone have any recommendations on things to see on campus or know about?

I'm very curious to see if they'll be reviewing the files of those interviewing now quickly, in order to have a decision before the second look weekend? hmmm....

Also, how's the traffic between Westchester and Maywood? I used to live in Westchester but that was over 17 years ago so Im not an expert by any means....

I just received an acceptance call yesterday afternoon -- exactly two weeks following my interview -- and I have to say that the promptness, transparency, and fidelity to their stated timelines evidenced by the admissions office was really refreshing. We were explicitly told on interview day that our files would be reviewed on Monday, March 26th, and decision notifications came within the next 24 hours. I suspect you're right: With "final decision day" rapidly approaching, quick turnaround times seem like a point of emphasis right now.

I'm not a resident or native of Chicago, so I can't help you out with the commuting situation, but I will say there are two things I found particularly noteworthy during my student-guided tour: The fitness center and the pediatrics ward. I suspect you'll see these anyway, but they're worth asking about if your guide forgets for some reason.

Alternate list... Poop. I called the office yesterday and they said that the class it made up anywhere from 10% to 25% students who were on the alternate list.

That will be a very easy commute...you are next door! If you are driving anywhere between 7AM-9AM give yourself some extra time as rush hour basically anywhere in the chicagoland area is awful.

Enjoy your interview day...Loyola is awesome! The new nursing building/center for collaborative learning will be finished by the time we start in August...something else to discuss/check out as well.

I'm also on the alternate list. Let's hope it's closer to 25% this year.

Thanks all! The interview went fantastic! I really hope I get in, loved the school 🙂

They said the last interviews were next week (only a few people) and everyone will know pretty much by April 10th. :xf:

Does this mean they will start to look
at the wait-list after April 10th?

There is a diversity dinner that I was invited to through the office of admissions (I'm Hispanic), but it is at 6pm the evening of second look day = conflict with the Chicago get together. So, I guess I *might* meet up with everyone later in the evening if people are still out. But I wish they would just start the diversity dinner at 5 so there would be less of an overlap. I have a feeling that no one outside of the facebook group knows about the event (current students, future students, etc). Anyone organizing it thinking of mentioning it at second look day for those who dont know about get-together?

Yeah...I was a little worried they might plan something for that night...you definitely can still come after...you just won't be able to take advantage of the deal. I can message you my number if you want and you can text me after to see if its still worth coming down too (hopefully it will be haha)

I work at the medical center now so I've been recruiting the students I know already. There should be at least a few current students coming.

We talked about somehow mentioning it to everyone, but wanted to keep it unofficial so students could just come and have fun. Hopefully by word of mouth that day, the future students who don't know, will find out about it. You do bring up a good point though, so I'll look more into it.

i'm pretty set on going to Loyola and was wondering if there is an accepted students Facebook group? I thought i saw a mention of one somewhere in this thread?

Does anyone know if Loyola accepts prereq coursework from community colleges?

Are they going to send out rejection emails ever?

Nope. they are obviously wayyyyyyyyy too busy to send out a mass email just to give us the courtesy of knowing we've been rejected. how dare you ask such a preposterous question. they receive 1000s of applications every year you know.

Haha. 🙂 I understand they're busy but it's an automated system, right? I just feel like out of courtesy since we spent time and money applying we should get an email.

That's ($75 X 1,000s) worth of application. Sure merits a decent email to let you know how things stack up.

Congrats! Who called you? Was it one of your interviewers?

No it wasn't my interviewer. I believe it was the Dean of Admissions, but I was kind of in a daze so I didn't listen as closely to that part haha.

Oh nice! Thanks. Has your status changed on their application website?

I just checked my status, and it still says "status undefined!!!!". The link for incoming freshman isn't working either.

Good luck to the rest of you!! I'm assuming not everyone got a call, that seems to be a common trend. When I interviewed, they said that if you don't get a call, you should get the second look invitation tomorrow/wednesday, which is basically an acceptance.

I will be at second look Friday, but I can't attend the thingy afterwards, I'm not old enough blegh :/

what is the thingy afterwards?

I interviewed on March 29th and found out today that I got put on the alternate list, aka the waitlist. Super bummed out right now. Does anyone know how many people get put on the alternate list and about how many end up getting in? I know it's hard to tell for sure, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just took my name off the alternate list. Good luck to everyone else! I wrote a post earlier after I called the admissions office asking the same question. They said 10%-25% of the class is from the alternate list, but they didn't indicate when movement happened. That'll give some good hope, I hope.

You're from the Boston area, right?

Anyway, from what I've heard in past years from friends that have applied, if you show a lot of interest (LOIs, LORs, etc) you have a much better chance of getting in. I think it's basically showing genuine interest gets their attention.

Yeah I'm from the Boston area. I think I interviewed on the same day as you! Anyway, yeah I'll definitely be sending an LOI soon.

Hey all,

If you're part of Loyola Stritch SOM Class of 2016 and considering living in Oak Park, let me know.

I'm looking for chill, hygenic roommates that are excited for med school 🙂

I don't have facebook (lame, I know), so just email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

ryank164, how did you find out that you were placed on the alternate list?

One of my interviewers told me to email him after this monday (April 9th), so I did and he gave me the news.

I see. Given that I have yet to receive anything by email or in the mail, I'm probably in the same boat. Thanks for the info, and good luck!
