don't feel bad at all- you're certainly not a loser..if you go back a few pages, you'll see alot of pre-lor rejections for people with amazing stats (like 3.9/37). good luck with the rest of the cycle!

Why does it always come back to race?

Rejected, not even a LOR request. Submitted fee 7/22. I feel like a loser...

Don't - you're in very good company. Mayo is looking for specific things, and we don't know what those are, so a lot of people with good stats or amazing stories get rejected. Mayo is Mayo - no one can figure it.

Good luck to you and everyone rejected for this cycle.

My condolences. 🙁

I know it doesn't make things better, but at least Mayo seemed sincere in their apology. Heck, my rejection letter from UChicago was like 3 sentences. *sigh* I feel like the rejection letter of the school should mirror the length of their secondary applications (for UChicago it was like 2 long extra essays). At least Mayo didn't take more of your time than the primary.

...though it is sad, nonetheless. 🙁

Speechless... Just got an interview invite 😱😍:luck:

😀:xf:

congrats! congrats! congrats!

still silent on my end, which sort of stings. Oh well, I think I'm done staying up for Mayo. If it comes, it comes - no point fretting now!

Congrats. I like their program, and know exactly what I would do if given the opportunity.

I just paid my fee on 8/8, so I am way behind everyone. No LOR request yet though. :xf:

Members of the Admissions Committee have reviewed your application to Mayo Medical School. We are pleased to invite you to come to our campus in Rochester, Minnesota for onsite interviews.

The interview day will begin with orientation at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude by 3:00 p.m. It will include two one-on-one interviews with Admissions Committee members. During the day, you will meet the Dean, have lunch with medical school students, and tour the Mayo Clinic.

INTERVIEW INVITE - LOR - 7/22, LOR received 8/2ish, II-8/13.

Interview invite!!!

LOR Request on 7/6 but had a stray LOR that didn't get recieved by them until 8/2.

Congrats to all the invitees!

Sad for me though🙁 no invite. LOR 7/13, LOR received 8/2, so I should've been in this batch.

Interview invite!

Primary submitted - 6/1
Fee request and paid - 6/20
LOR request - 6/30
LOR submitted - 7/2
LOR received email - 8/2
Interview invite - 8/12

Hope that timeline helps people who are still in limbo.

ohhh I'm in 8/2 LOR received batch too but no interview invite....🙁

23.8% acceptance huh. Does anyone know how many of these are straight vs. waitlist + what the scholarships on top of the half tuition are called/how much?

LOR request on 7/1 (letters received by AMCAS on 7/6) and interview invite on 8/13. It came much later than most of the others in the 7/1 batch so there's hope! Best wishes everyone

Congrats to you and everyone else who got invites today! Your post made me optimistic again...I was getting kind of down because I got the LOR email on 7/6 and my inbox is still empty haha

Congrats to all of you! I know that everyone perseverated and sweated on this one. Congrats, congrats, congrats!

Quick question

I received by LOR request for Mayo on 6/30 and my letters were uploaded on 7/15. I still haven't gotten an email from Mayo to confirm whether they got my letters or not. It sounds in the previous threads that this email should come before a rejection or an interview invite. Can anyone clarify?

I wouldn't call to confirm. It seems like there's no pattern as to who receives the LOR received email. I never got that email, and I got an interview invite. I'm sure that as long as you assigned your letters to Mayo on AMCAS, you're fine.

Question to those who have an interview in early September:

Is there a followup email to the interview invite which gives you information on student hosting?

Mid Sept interview, and I got an email about student hosting a few days after the initial interview invite

Is there a maximum number of letters that may be sent for MD only applicants? Their web page says they require 3 letters and then for the md/phd program they specify a maximum of 5, but I wasn't sure if there was a similar maximum for MD only or if they only want the three letters they ask for.

I have not received mine yet (got the II on Friday night) but I'm assuming the student hosting email will come later today or Tuesday.

quick question you guys, my mcat score comes back on Tuesday. I have applied to mayo but still waiting for the fee request email ( i guess I will get it after i get my mcat score back), however, do you guys think that I should pay the 100$ since it looks like I'm late to the game? should i use the 100 bucks for something else? or should I still try my luck? ( please be honest)

I called them regarding this a few days ago, and they said that the maximum number of letters they accept is 10.

As per their instructions, you should wait for your MCAT scores to be reported to AMCAS before paying the fee. This is what their initial fee request email said:

"If you are taking an additional MCAT or have taken a recent MCAT and have scores that are still pending, do not pay this fee. Please contact our office at [email protected] to ensure this test date has been reported to our office via your AMCAS application."

I got my student host email (and an MMS email with interview day details) around three days after picking a date, for what it's worth.

10?!?! Does anyone even have that many? 🙂

Thanks for the information!

H I'm currently on the shuttle back to MSP from Rochester and thought I'd pass along some info that might be useful. My apologies if anything has been said before.

As far as the interview day goes, you'll have two interviews of 30 minutes; both will be with members of the admissions committee. There's also some "explore Mayo time" which is essentially free time, and everyone had about ~1.5 hours of this over the course of the day. Everyone seemed to agree that the interviews were VERY relaxed. Everyone's interviews were done at 2:30, and the last 30 minutes was a quick talk by the chair of the admissions committee (I left early to catch the shuttle, so if you're worried about transportation issues, just let the staff know).

For those of you that have interviewed, they shared some info that might be of use to you. They've sent out ~15 acceptances thus far; decisions go out biweekly, but the committee meets to review and rank people weekly. If you've interviewed and haven't been ranked, it's more than likely due to one of your interviewers being absent at the committee meeting. They won't discuss/rank you if one of your interviewers is absent. As far as the rest of the season goes, they're planning on sending out ~50 acceptances by the start of the new year. After that, all acceptances will be to replace those that withdraw (i.e., when one person withdraws, another acceptance will go out to replace that person). Marcy said they expect to send out ~75 acceptances total from the ~300 people that interview. As far as other numbers go, they received ~4200 applications and requested LORs from ~1600 applicants.

As far as my opinions/suggestions, I would DEFINITELY try and stay a couple of days and hang out with the students if at all possible and explore as much of Rochester as possible. That's really what sold me - Nerday and SortaBigDeal are incredible, so definitely try and meet them if you can (didn't get a chance to meet bamtuba). The insight from students is extremely valuable, and a lot of the stuff I talked about with them wasn't mentioned on the interview day.

Best of luck!

It's not too late. If you think you'd like it here, definitely apply! Otherwise you might end up regretting it long after the whole application ride is done.

Just got the request for LORs - someone must be working late tonight (1:30am there right now). Excited for the chance to be considered!

This is when most of their emails are sent out. Their program must be set to send out messages at that strange time.

Interview invite confirmed! After 2 days of my college email not working I called the admissions office and explained and the lady confirmed that I had been invited for an interview and gave me the website to schedule my interview with.

I'll be there Sept 30th!

I got the email on aug 2 saying: Dear Mayo Medical School Applicant,

Thank you for your continued interest in Mayo Medical School and for your patience with the application process. Your letters of reference have been received and attached to your AMCAS file.

Your application is in the final review stage where it will be determined if you will be invited for an onsite interview. You will be notified as soon as the review is completed. This review can take up to three weeks.

I still havent heard anything. Is that bad? No rejection no interview. LOR request on july 8. Also is the "three week" period a strict 3 weeks?

Got the same letter on the same day. I assume it means within 3 weeks of aug 2 so another week or so before we should panic...i expect to hear either an interview or rejection this week.

GL! I really hope they make the right decision.
I have decent stats but they are from a good school

is there a certain day of the week they send out invites?

Nope. So far it has been a Friday night (really Sat AM with the famous 233AM email), a Tuesday night/wed am and Thurs night/fri AM. The last was late last week so I expect it will be later this week but honestly, it's anyone's guess...I know it's hard but try not to think about it.

Hey guys, congratulations to all those who received interview invitations! For those of us who have not yet but are still under consideration, hang in there! For those that were sent rejections, I know how it feels after having undergone that before - but keep up the good work, as some of you are equally if not more qualified than the rest of us. May the force be with us all!

Dear Mayoans,

I miss you. No word from Mayo since my 7/1 LOR request.

With love,

Leo
