I've been singing for a long time and I usually just look up the chords for songs I want to do...and then play them. So no rehearsing for me 😉.

Nah, the French horn gods demand regular practice, less they withdraw their dubious blessings. That and animal sacri- wait, what?

Sounds like any practicing would occur in the privacy of my own room. It's probably better that way, anyway.

Hahaha. I have been playing the Ukulele for years and some students mentioned a girl who plays here. I wish I would have known - we could have jammed! If I get in we should totally do it.

A bunch of fellow interviewees from today are going out with some of the students. What a school!

Let me know how it goes!

Today was my 3-week date since LOR received, anybody else experience this and not heard anything yet?

Hey it's been a long time since I've been on the Mayo forum, but I'm just wondering has anyone interviewed yet? and if so what was the experience like?

Yea, I've been waiting for about a month. 🙁 Don't know if that's a good/bad/neutral sign.

Go back 1 page and see the ultra amazing review by SNUKE, who is killing this cycle.

LOL. Check a page or two back for my very long-winded ramble about my interview.

EDIT: Thanks raltima!

Wow this thread dies on the weekend.

So it's Monday again. Any thoughts from recent interviewees?

Also keep in mind that they will rank tomorrow! So emails should be coming in within a few days, but they will not look at your file unless both interviewers are at the meeting.

I thought they couldn't release any acceptance info until after 10/15 (for all schools). Does Mayo not follow this?

eep. You're like the all-knowing genie of the Mayo thread 😀

Holy cow. This place is absolutely amazing. Unlimited clinical opportunities. Passionate faculty who are leaders in their field eager to become a mentor for medical students. EVERYTHING is about the patient. Laid back, conversational interviews. I love this place. Seriously the Clinic looks like Hogwarts inside. My student host is very welcoming, he is letting me stay for 2 nights.

Tonight I'm going to play kickball with a bunch of first years! Everyone clearly loves this place. Today students received tons more scholarship money in the mail, just because well, its Mayo Clinic. Simply amazing.

Not acceptance/rejection emails. Mayo ranks each person following their interviews, then sends an email informing each applicant that they've been ranked. You don't know what rank you are (1-5, 1 being best), but I'm not sure how stringently they follow it, since they can pull a 2 in front of a 1 from the waitlist (leading people to believe that Mayo is comprising its class of people with certain characteristics, i.e. # athletes, # muscians, etc.)

My suspicion is that they offer the initial acceptances from the 1s, then waitlist the rest in general order, but keep in mind that I have been known to be wrong. Shameful, I know.

I have a near-unhealthy obsession. I've been holding it at arm's length, but a very close reading of last year's thread (and maybe the one before that) has provided a few insights, especially the application process unique to Mayo.

Glad to hear you had an awesome time! I got the same vibe. 😍

Does Mayo accept formal updates after being invited for interview?

Edit: I admit my ignorance. Call Gina/Mayo Admissions tomorrow and ask them whether it would be better to inform them of your current activities before or after your interview.

Can you elaborate on this? They all got more scholarships? How much (if you know)?

Thanks! Just took a look through last year's thread, and I might be getting almost as obsessed as you are  haha. I want November to come faster....I'm so excited to see Mayo!!! 😍

Every year you will be guaranteed a certain amount of scholarship money (which will be revealed to you when you get your acceptance call). Anything more than that is variable year to year, but know that Mayo statistically has the lowest average student debt in the country for medical schools. You don't have to worry about money here, so don't worry about the specifics 🙂

Any suggestions on how to get from the Rochester airport to your host's house, besides a taxi?

Thanks 🙂

Seems like it has been a little while since a batch of interview invites have gone out.... maybe tonight is the night? 🙂

Minnesota winters aren't THAT bad lol (-40* F.. I can't ever remember it being that cold, and if it was, it must've been pretty brief). I've lived in Rochester for like 16 years now and didn't even have a winter jacket for the majority of it.

I have had LOR received for going on almost 4 weeks now...PLEASE INTERVIEW TONIGHT PLEASE!!!!

I'm about to hit 5 weeks since LOR received.... I take not getting a rejection yet as a neutral to positive sign 🙂

There is a shuttle that will meet your flight at the airport and will take a group of people to downtown Rochester. The shuttle is great, and it's $11.50 while a cab is $25. Most of the student hosts live within walking distance of downtown, so you can probably tell your student where the shuttle will drop you off (I asked to be dropped off at the Kahler) and they'll meet you there and you can walk.

You can pretty much walk across Rochester in less than 20 minutes. 🙂

I walked all over town when I was there. Nice place!

I was just wondering- do you get an email confirmation when you submit the host request form? I haven't gotten one, so I just wanted to make sure.

I don't think so. You will be contacted by your hosts a week or so before your interview, at the latest.

does anyone else find themselves staying up late at night just because mayo sends out notifications at obscene times? 🙂

How long will it take for mayo to reject me? Fee received 9/6. No LOR request. Looking at the history of this this thread, no LOR request before 2 weeks = rejection.

I'm wondering the same thing...I got fee received on 9/2. Still no LOR request.

I used to, yes.

Within our small population size, the whole process seems to have slowed down. At the beginning, we had many people on the same step, so it was easier to see dates and trends. Now, not so much. Whether that's because the admissions staff is busy, or the particular people posting on SDN on this step will be rejected, we have no way of knowing, but my money is on the first option. Also, Mayo has admitted that the process tightens up as we get later in the year.

Right now, the (small) admission staff is interviewing, looking at files to rank them, looking at LORs, and reading primaries to decide who gets a LOR request. I know it's hard, but be patient. Just know that waiting =| rejection.

It may be a few days+ before you hear back. Our class representatives look at everything on that form to try and pair you up with a classmate that matches your interests, is a non-smoking cat owner that goes to bed at 4 a.m., eats only meat products but is allergic to dogs as well, etc.

At the present moment, much of our class is scattered across the U.S. participating in selective opportunities. The e-mailing and calls back and forth to ensure hosting matches are correct invariably takes longer during this time of year.

If you or anyone reading these posts ends up in a situation where you are a few days out and haven't heard anything, send me a PM and get in touch with our class reps to follow up. We'll make sure you have a place to stay.

You are a kickball hero--seriously quite the game saver. It was wonderful to meet you and I know our kickball team and everyone else involved had a great time getting to know you and the rest of students on your interview day.

To share an I love Mayo moment with you: I spent yesterday afternoon working with a professional actor on improv comedy skills...the idea being that extremely active listening (as is necessary for improv and scene handoffs) leads to a more successful first 20-30 seconds of entering a patient room. Several of my classmates are camping tonight to prep for a mass-casualty wilderness survival experience, another is delivering babies in rural Arizona, and one is on his way to a wedding this weekend. And, if it all works out, we'll come together next Monday to play another kickball game. What an absolutely fantastic way to study medicine...if you are going to learn 46,000 new words and phrases during the first two years of school you might as well have some fun along the way!

I can't wait to visit in October! The more I learn about Mayo, the more I love it 😍

Hey Raltima, my understanding was that private donors occasionally (and generously) give large sums of money to MMS specifically for student scholarships. Thus, when I was at Mayo, all the students (I think) received variable amounts of money depending on their financial need (not sure exactly how much each student got).

Nice meeting you too, I had a blast at Mayo! Thanks for being so welcoming! I have never been to a med school were literally every student was so passionate and enthusiastic about their school. I hope to have the opportunity to return in the future :luck:

Returned to the forum today only to see Mayo on page 2. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. And don't try apologizing, because I'm in no mood to hear it!

I believe they are referring to the second page of the school threads. Mayo has been a very popular thread from the beginning so it rarely sees "page 2"....

Thanks 🙂

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure.

Thanks for confirming 🙂

No one called and/or implied that you were "stupid".
Now, being guilty of "not getting a joke" is another story. 😛

PS: By saying "Of all the threads, it's the Mayo one..." isn't quite fair as, thus far, your 6 posts have only been in the Mayo thread. 😉

hehe, I love jokes, I just didn't know what that meant. I search for Mayo to get to this thread, so I'm not familiar with the page 1, page 2 business. Plus my brain's a tad fried from the whole app process, so it's not a far cry to question my current mental status 🙂

(Also, you are correct that I've only posted here, but I do frequent other school-specific ones and in doing so, have observed the wide array of atmospheres and communities possible. In the past, I had found Mayo to be the friendliest, most supportive thread of the dozen or so school-specific threads, so if I'm ever going to ask an obvious/stupid/please forgive my ignorance kinda question, this would be the place.)

It's not like you were helping. *sniff* We regularly grace the 1st page, so perhaps it's merely your poor timing rather than our lack of Mayo-love. Just read the last few pages for confirmation, as if you need anymore. 😉

Don't worry about asking questions. There is nothing you could ask that has not already been asked - and if you do manage to think of a unique one, that'd be more impressive than not. We all do understand that this thread may be a tiny bit unwieldy and difficult to navigate to find answers. Perhaps. At least it will be entertaining for next year's crowd.

They told us that they are opening a branch campus in Arizona, and that the press release will probably be on Tuesday...

???

(I probably should have asked more questions about this)

P.S. Mayo Clinic is great and so were the other interviewees

Does that mean they'll be accepting more students?
