Was there any waitlist movement before May 15th last year? Also, is NYU's waitlist tiered or ranked?

There was waitlist movement on the 13th and 14th of May as well as May 24th. If it is tiered or ranked, no one is saying.

So I'm confused. A lot of people have been telling me that NYU accepts a decent number from their waitlist, but it seems that not a lot of last year's applicants got off the waitlist. I understand that the people on SDN don't represent the entire population of applicants, but what's the truth? 😕

All of the student hosts I was with came off the waitlist and told me that a lot of people did in fact come from the waitlist.

My student host also came off the waitlist, and I think one or two of his roommates did as well. Unless we had the same student host.. 😛

So I just checked financial aid. No scholarships, all loans. Anyone else check yet?

how did you access the fin aid package? I'm trying to navigate that email but failing hard.

I checked. I actually got a good amount in grants. I assume it's a financial need thing rather than merit-based even though it's called a "scholarship" in the award.

Yuuuup, no help other than loans. Just withdrew since I at least have some partial scholarships at other schools. . . best of luck to the waitlist!

How do you check? On Albert, mine says there is no information available.

thanks much! i didn't look into that fin aid email with our account info so i was having trouble logging in. haha. great start for me. :/

all loans here too...bummer!
what kind of loans are you getting? you think these unsubsidized, low-interest loans would ever make it worth it? still soooo much money

all loans here as well... i did receive a few good, low interest loans but $75,000 in loans is a tough pill to swallow nonetheless.

All loans too. I will probably be withdrawing soon. One more person that'll come off the waiting list 🙂 Best of luck to you all.

Here are some number for the waitlisters to mull over.
Admissions & Enrollment

chart

Here are the numbers based on this thread:
Total applied 268
Total Interviews given 131
Acceptances 32
Interviewed and likely rejected 65
Interviewed and waitlisted 31
Interviewed, accepted, declined 3

We represent 3.5% of the applicant pool assuming NYU generally interviews the same amount each year.

Given the small, self-selecting sample and reporting bias on SDN, I don't think we can really say much at all from this without making a ton of assumptions. I'd say the most relevant numbers for us wait listers are how many people from the class actually come from the wait list, and how many people are on it, neither of which are published (as far as I know).

Does NYU only give us our financial aid awards for the first year? I can't even find the expected cost of attendance for the 2nd-4th years.... (even the sample 1st year budget posted on the admissions site is from 2010...)

How do we withdraw an acceptance? Do we just send them an email to the admissions office, or is there a way to do it online?

Definitely e-mail. I did so about a week ago and they confirmed my withdrawal the following day

Anyone from New York gotten the meningitis or polio vaccine? Where? My doctor doesn't administer it, and I'm trying to find one that does.... All the places I'm calling, doesn't administer it on insurance. So I have to pay out of pocket, which includes like $125 just for the visit, then paying for the vaccine separately. One of the office I called said it's 150 just for meningitis vaccine 😱

Double check your pediatric records, because most people get the series as a kid. If you don't have it, then I'd call the student health services at (212) 263-5489 and ask them for advice on that, because it'd take around 7 months to get the series completed and classes are starting before then. They probably can advice you on where to get those vaccines as well.

Problem is that my parents moved from America when I was little, so I'm unsure as to which vaccines I received (doubt they remember. ) so don't know where to check my peds record. I did speak to student services and they adviced me to receive the adult vaccines. My problem is just all the places are charging an Arm and a leg. Guess, I just have to pay it 🙁
Thanks for your help though.

If you're going to be in nyc this summer, Student Health will probably be able to give you the vaccines for free. The only caveat is that you can't move into the dorms (if you are living in the dorms) before you get them, as this is a public health issue (I know for a fact it applies to meningitis, but not sure about polio). Not sure if this helps =/

This does help 👍..... I'm frm NY, so being around to get it isn't an issue. My question is that can I get it now as an incoming student or do I have to wait till I'm matriculated.? I will calk them tomorrow to find out. Based on the response I got from student services, polio is mainly for patient contact. But the meningitis is for dorming (sharing close quarter and all)
Thanks for your response

Has anyone who has submitted housing forms/deposit received a confirmation e-mail back?

I sent in my housing forms and got a confirmation email about 5 days later (they were sent from the midwest)

I guess they have my stuff at the office (I called), but they never sent that confirmation out for some reason. Does it say anything important besides them confirming they have the stuff?

Nope, the confirmation email just said "Congratulations on your acceptance to the NYU School of Medicine Class of 2016! We have received your application and $100 housing fee. Housing assignments will be mailed in early to mid-July, we do not have specifics available at this time. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions or concerns." Did you guys specifically request a building when it asked for your preference? I ended up putting one down, as well as the type of apartment layout I wanted, but I wasn't sure if I was being too specific.

I put down which building I would prefer, but nothing beyond that.

hi guys,
just a friendly reminder from a student that is for sure attending NYU, if you know or feel strongly that you will not attend NYU, I encourage you to withdraw your application before May 15th. When I was at second look, I met at least 3 students who were not sure if they could attend NYU due to less than exciting financial aid packages. The staff informed us that as students withdraw, their money (grants + loans) are redistributed to other students. So though it may not seem like it matters whether you withdraw before May 15th or not, try to keep in mind the other accepted students who also have to make a decision before this date but need to know where they will stand financially before doing so. Thanks!! I hope you all make great decision and if you decide NYU is for you, I'll see you in the Fall!!! 🙂

just got a nice scholarship after receiving all loans initially!

Hello, I have a question for my fellow wait-listers:

When did you have everything in by? (i.e. supplementary app., committee packet, etc.)

My adviser took three months to get my committee packet in btw (sent in September) D:

What about for science?
I was also complete fairly late in the cycle, but I didn't get the impression that this was the factor that put me on the wait list, although I do think it took me out of consideration for that first Dec. 15th acceptance release. But who really knows.

hahaha, and YES EVERYONE! FOR SCIENCE! 😀
