Deferred...🙁 guess I still have some hope since it is neither a rejection or a waitlist?

Yes you do! If you read earlier posts, you'll see that when OSU says they keep post-interview files under active consideration for acceptance, they mean it. Other applicants have heard good news after being deferred. Not all, but some.

Just gotta keep waiting and hoping! :luck::xf:

Does anyone know if Ohio State is still extending interview invitations? I received an interview invitation from them in February last year, but I haven't read about anyone receiving one lately. Thanks in advance.

I got one in early January last year around this time after being complete in November. Submitted much earlier this year with app improvements and no dice 🙁 still hanging on though

Let's hope that we hear something pretty soon if they are still sending interview invitations. :xf:

how difficult is it to get the in-state residency? I was looking at the requirements and they are pretty extensive.

Cancelled my interview here. Hope my spot goes to one of you and good luck everyone!

hey everyone! I know this is way early, but I've already been accepted and am 90% sure I am going to Ohio State! (Unless something crazy happens with my San Deigo app lol) so I am now looking for a roommate! I'm either going to rent an apartment downtown (my favorite is Liberty Place) or my dad is going to buy a condo downtown and we would rent 1 of the bedrooms out. If anyone is interested PM me or email [email protected]! Thanks 🙂

As someone who has lived in Columbus and gone to OSU for 4+ years, I would advise against living downtown. It's farther away than you think and it's going to be pain in the butt during clinicals, since you will most likely rotate through the hospitals in the actual medical center. You're better off going with something on King Ave or W. 8th, that whole neighborhood, where you could walk/ride a bike. Traffic and parking at the med center is AWFUL.

how difficult is it to get the in-state residency? I was looking at the requirements and they are pretty extensive.

I just interviewed today and they said that it was really easy (compared to other states like CA or NC) and even suggested that out of state students calculate their entire medical school costs with 1 year out of state rates + 3 years in state rates. All of the students raved about the financial advisors and my tour guide was actually in the process of getting residency. You basically can't take money from your parents and have to switch your license.

cancelled my interview, hope it goes to one of you! good luck 🙂

super easy, but you MUST follow all the small requirements very closely

I just got deferred after interview, anyone have any idea how likely it is that I can get in now? I ask because I have not taken anatomy, so I don't know now whether I should or not.

I am not sure what the chances are of getting off the deferred list (I am in the same position), but I would recommend taking Anatomy regardless since it's a high-yield course that will help immensely in medical school. :luck:

I was deferred too. But, got the call last night. Yess!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need to look for an anatomy course right away 🙂

Good luck to all..

Congrats! Be a pal and tell Capers to call me. I'm available from 8-9 p.m.

I contacted the admissions office today. They said they expect to accept ~25% of deferred applicants.

Wow thats super depressing, gotta say I think I'm gonna save my $1000

Anyone know how late they interview this year?

Anyone know how late they interview this year?

I called them and they interview until March beginning and they will send out the calls for those in mid/late February!
Good luck to those of us who are waiting!

So, I interviewed on January 11th and then got the whole follow-up email saying thanks for coming, take our survey, etc etc. That email also said to follow them on twitter because there'd be updates about admission.

OhioStateMed's latest tweet is this:

"If you interviewed on January 4, 9, or 11, 2012, you will receive an admission decision on your status page by Friday, January 20th, 2012!!!"

Wish I hadn't read this directly before bed. It's like being five again and waiting so desperately for Christmas morning.

But seriously, is this possibly a bad sign? I thought those admitted get calls (that's what they said at the interview). Did they accept no one from these interview dates? (insert neurosis here)

Good to know. Wish I didn't submit the secondary in November :bang::beat: Golden chance being instate and ruined it!

We are on the same boat! For the past two days I just can't stop checking my cell phone and inbox every 5 seconds... until I got this email from the admission office:

"You may have received the following tweet this past Tuesday (the tweet quoted above). The interview dates were incorrect. January 11 should not have been listed as receiving an admissions decision on your status page by Friday, January 20, 2012.

The applicants that interviewed on January 11 will not receive a decision until February 3, 2012."

So, we can live in peace for another week or so. :xf:

Yeah, I got that as well this morning. Though, I am a bit confused about it. They told us at the interview that if we were accepted, we'd get a call after 7pm on Wednesday evening, 2 weeks after our interview. So I'm assuming the whole February 3rd thing is to cover those who are deferred or rejected?

I had the same question. I think the Admission committee , depending upon your eligibility directly forwards the application to the Med Path Post Bacc Program. Thats my understanding . Please Correct me if I am wrong

Although I know movement will not occur for a while, does anyone know if OSU has a ranked waitlist or do they review all candidates on the list when looking to fill spots that open up?

The most difficult part is the financial accounting. If you are using any of your own money to pay tuition or cost of living like I did, you have to deal with ineligible/eligible money and jumping through hoops proportional to the amount of money you have. Other than that, it's pretty easy, and almost everyone get it. Financial Aid office pretty much assumes you get it in the second year when calculating loans, etc.

Oh, and if you went to an Ohio high school at any time in your life, you get residency instantly.

Are they done extending interview invites this year?

I called yesterday and my file was in second review, got deferred last year but admissions told me they Interview until end of march and they are actively rejecting people so I guess if you haven't heard back that's a good thing. Hope this helps.

All silent on my end too. Haven't heard since I was complete around 8/20 or so.

I feel ya 🙁 Seeing everyone interview at my top choice school (where I got waitlisted) is so heartbreaking 🙁 🙁

From what I have heard, as a current student at OSUCOM, they are still extending interview invites, so there is still hope! 🙂 Also, they do review all candidates on the list when looking to fill spots that open up. They bring the deferred list with them when reviewing candidates who just interviewed the week prior.

There's still hope! OSUCOM is truly a wonderful place to attend, and I promise that the administration really is working tirelessly to review and re-review your applications and compose a wonderful class (and its not all based on the numbers, or else I wouldn't be here!). 🙂 Good luck!

P.S. If you're not receiving reply e-mails from Dr. Capers, it's not because he's not getting your e-mail. He does get them, read them and forwards them to the admissions office. And trust me, he really does take your letters and concerns into regard!

Anyone interviewing 2/1 want to split hotel and/or car costs with me? I have a 2-bed budget hotel room and rental car reserved. I'm male, but I will share with anyone so long as they are a quiet sleeper and not a convicted sex offender. I get into Columbus at 5pm on the 31st and I'm out on the 1st at 7:00. Your half of things would be about $55. PM me if you're interested.

has anyone been rejected post interview or after they got deferred yet?

I interviewed in October, got deferred, and just got rejected last week. I keep thinking that if maybe I had sent my fall transcripts in right away I might have had a better chance, but c'est la vie. Makes my decision easier lol.

Perhaps a current student can answer me. Is OSUCOM generous with financial aid to OOS students? I am OOS without any savings and just wondering how I can manage without any support from outside (to qualify for residency from 2nd yr). I am just worried that I have to take a huge loan.

I am also worried that bulk of their scholarship pool will go to cover deferred students from last year due to over admission. Thanks!!

anyone else still waiting? My status has been application recieved since early september...do they do rejections pre interview at the end of the cycle?

I am in a similar situation except complete since early october. I called admissions and they are actively rejecting people so if you haven't received an invite its likely because your file is in second review. I asked if they could elaborate more on this but they were unable to do so unfortunately.

I guess its good that we haven't been rejected at this point, but they do interview through March she said. So hang in there. 😕😕

Today Twitter said: "If you interviewed on January 11, 18, 23, and 25 2012, you will receive an admission decision by Friday, February 3, 2012!!"

Does this mean that acceptance calls would be made tonight since it is the Wednesday before the online posting?! Or Friday? Or do they not always call every acceptance?

Anyone else trying to figure that out??

Sorry for all of the questions just want to know how long to try to stay hopeful! 🙂

He's always called, but it's never at a consistent day/time. He basically calls whenever his schedule gives him time.

Don't lose hope until you start seeing lots of SDN posts about people getting phone calls. 🙂
