2011-2012 Psychology PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all. I just received and invite to interview for CW-Post Long Island U's PsyD program. Interview date Feb 10th. Looked like it was a form email but personalized with my name and specific interview time 🙂

Received rejection letter this morning. Look at the applyweb website and at the bottom, it should have a link to the official decision letter. Not sure if this applies to only those who were rejected, but I'd check it out anyways if I were you. Good luck!

I applied here too, but can't find a link to a decision letter in my applyweb. Either this is a good sign, or I just don't see where it is.

Also, I got an e-mail over the weekend from my POI at Marquette for a phone interview. Not sure what to make of this when I take into consideration the other posts from this site, but I'm excited!

Marquette University
Personal e-mail from POI 1/28
Clinical PhD
Phone Interview offered over week of 2/6

anyone heard from Auburn Counseling Psych? Someone posted on TGC that they received a rejection via email on the 23rd, but no word from anywhere else about that. Just curious!
Thanks!

anyone heard from uniformed services univ civilian clinical/med psych track

Has anyone heard anything about UVA? Thanks!

They are sending interviews this week for Feb 10th--we're supposed to be notified before then on whether we got an interview/got rejected

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has heard about interviews for VCU Counseling. I saw earlier in the thread that interviews were tentatively scheduled for 2/24 and 2/27. Thank you.

Hi All - I spoke with the Program Coordinator for Hartford's PsyD program...she said they are still reviewing files and extending invitations to applicants. We could expect to hear from them "within the week."

Has anyone heard from either FDU's clinical PhD program or Hofstra?

Just to alleviate some concerns, I just received a reply from the University of Denver's Clinical PsyD program regarding interview invitation statuses. They are still 'currently in the admission application review process for our programs and hope to be in contact with applicants regarding interviews as soon as we can'.

Good luck everyone!

Thanks!!

Just received this PM:

"Spoke with the admin asistant at CU Boulder, who said that all invitations have been extended for the Clinical Psych PhD program, but there is a list of alternates who may hear something in about 4 weeks. They will not tell anyone their status (alternate vs rejected) until then."

Got a rejection email today, but it was dated 1/25.

Either the above information is incorrect, or they just really really didn't want me. 🙂

If you didn't get a rejection email, I guess you still have a chance.

BTW, I saw the rejection post on TGC, that was not me, so I'm not the only one.

I logged in and I don't see a link.. I suppose that's a good thing, unless I am missing something. This is where you can view the summary of the application, if it complete, LOR, etc? I used the link from an email from KU that says I can check the status of my application. I assume a link would be fairly obvious.. This link wasn't there for you before? Also, did you get an email to check your status? Thank you!

Does anyone know whether the University of Denver child clinical program is done extending invites??

I received an email this morning that said "A decision has been posted for your graduate application. This is your official notification of your application decision from the University of Kansas. Go this site: https://www.applyweb.com/cgi-bin/ustat? Log-in using the username and password created for your application."

It is the website where you view the summary of your app. This box was not there previous to this morning. At the very bottom, between the "Application Complete" box and the status of my LORs, I have another box that says "View Online Decision Form." I clicked that and there was my personalized rejection letter from the Dean of Graduate Studies.

I hope that helps!!

Hey! Long time reader, first time poster here.
Just got an invitation to interview from Uniformed Services University, Medical Psychology Program,
clinical psychology track (PhD/civilian)
Date received: 1/30
Notified: by personalized email from graduate admissions.
Interview dates offered: 2/27

Someone else got an invite yesterday, so it doesn't seem like USU sent out all the invites at the same time via mass email. Good luck!

Just to clarify, this is for the KU CLINICAL psych program right? I applied to Counseling psych but wanted to verify which you were talking about. Thanks

I don't think any invites have gone out for Fairleigh Dickinson yet, but the interview days are 2/10 or 2/12. Secretary said that they will start sending invites about a week before-- which would mean this Friday. Hope this helps!

Has anyone heard from either FDU's clinical PhD program or Hofstra?

Yes, this is for the KU Clinical Psychology program and I applied to the adult track.

Hey guys!

This is my second time applying (applied to about 8 first out of undergrad and now I'm finishing my masters at Teachers College, Columbia University and I applied to 13.)

I never had an interview my first go, but I got my first interview invite now:

Long Island University
E-mail from Graduate Student
Interview date: 2/11

I know it says LIU people were contacted last week... but, I just got my e-mail today!

Good luck!

thanks i was wondering about this!

Is the person who got an interview invite for Spalding University's PsyD program on TGC on here? And if they are, would you mind letting me know if it was a personalized e-mail or a mass e-mail that your received for your interview! Congrats on your interview!!!

After calling some schools I figure I had some info that might be worth sharing:

Marquette University - Secretary told me all invites were extended this past week

Ohio University (athens) - Secretary told me all invites were extended

Southern Mississippi - My POI actually answered the phone and made me nervous, however she seemed to recognize my name. She said that the first round of invites have been extended but that there are still chances to be on an "alternate" list

Spoke with the secretary, she said all invites will have been sent out by tomorrow (Jan 31st) via e-mail. :xf:

Maybe a long shot: did anyone apply to Kansas university applied behavioral psychology phd? Anyone know anything about it?

Just in case anyone is interested I talked to the University of Wyoming secretary today. She informed me that all clinical invites have not yet been sent out, but they should be sent out real soon.

I got an update from Georgia State that my application was just marked complete and that " It can be a period of up to several weeks from the time an application is considered complete to the occasion when it is returned to our office with a final decision." Anyone else find this weird since interviews have already been sent out?

Also, I used to have an application checklist when I logged into the Fordham VIP page but it's not there anymore and I haven't heard from them. Fordham's my top pick but should I just assume rejection at this point? =/

Indiana State University
Clinical Psychology PsyD
Phone call from possible POI, with email from department secretary to follow
Received 1/30/12
Interview dates 2/17 or 2/24

I applied to

OSU
UNC (chapel hill)
Sunny, Buffalo
Indiana
Florida State
University of Florida
Penn State
Northwestern

so far i've heard from UNC, Sunny, Indiana (Bloomington) and UF all rejections. I got a phone interview with bloomington, but not an actual in person interview.

Nothing from either Northwestern or PennState. The secretary at Northwestern told me their interview weekend was next week so I'm just going to go ahead and accept that I've been rejected from there too.

In sum
8 schools, one interview then rejection and one acceptance. My GRE was a 1270, and I have a 3.9 gpa. I am currently a senior, so I will be going in straight from undergrad into a PhD program. I have 4 years of research in one lab and 3 in another, one publication, multiple presentations, and summer research. I still can't help but to feel like a total failure at the thought that i've only received acceptance from one school after such hard work....

Why is the clinical psychology field so competitive? I see everyone putting way less effort and getting accepted into multiple programs. the odds of acceptance are so ridiculously low...its incredible. #sorryfortherant.

Don't feel bad! I've been rejected from 2 and have heard not a peep from 6!! And even though I am a Michigan fan, OSU is a really good school and Columbus is pretty sweet (if you can get past the fact that it's Ohio ;] )

If you don't mind me asking, when did you hear about UF? Because I have seen people who were invited for an interview and I have heard NOTHING. It's so annoying! And did you hear back from FSU? You didn't mention them.

Even though the process sucks; just think- you could be in my shoes where you don't have an acceptance and are left in the dark!

I received an email from UF.

FSU I have not heard from actually. I lose track of all the schools I applied to.

FSU I have not heard from actually. I lose track of all the schools I applied to. I will most likely end up accepting OSU. I know...Ohio... lol.

What's wrong with Ohio? 😛 lol

Did you hear from UF today? I also haven't heard from them and people are getting invites! So frustrating!

Crashing this comment; hope you don't mind. Just wanted to offer some experience with UF. I received an interview invite from them on Friday via email. Interview are Feb 24-25. But, I applied there last year as well and was in a similar situation to yours. I finally contacted the department after seeing all the interview invites pop up on TGC and was told that, "while I was not chosen for an initial interview, my application was still in consideration for admission." Basically, I got the impression that they wait-list a few applicant without interviews, just in case their initial offers get turned down. Eventually, I got a rejection letter in the mail. But...anything is possible with this process, right? 🙂

On that note, I totally agree with how ridiculously competitive this process is. This is actually my 4th time applying to PhD programs. After my first round of rejections coming out of undergrad, I got an M.S., but I'm still having trouble getting in. My advice would be to try not to take it too personally (Easier said than done, I know). At a certain point, aggravating as it is, it really becomes less about your qualifications and more about what a certain school or professor needs. Congrats on your acceptance in Ohio! And, bear in mind, just coming out of this ridiculous, convoluted process with your sanity still (mostly) intact makes the idea of any of us being failures fundamentally impossible.

Stay strong, everyone! 😍

P.S. Just saw your username jimmoriarty. It only further supports my argument that you are, graduate school frustrations included, awesome.

When were you accepted into OSU and how were you contacted? I didn't think they'd get back so soon since the interview was last Friday and they said not to expect to hear for at least a week.

Quite frankly, I think this is a pretty amazing accomplishment. You ONLY applied to 8 schools and got interviews at 2 - straight out of undergrad!!! You don't seem to realize how frigging competitive it is. My stats are comparable (same GRE, undergrad GPA 3.7) with a lot more research experience, a master's degree (GPA 3.8ish), ~20 presentations, 1 accepted and one submitted publication... and I got 3 interviews after applying the third time around...God knows whether I get in.
I don't mean to be harsh but you have nothing to feel bad about!

Sorry about the rejections. How did UNC notify you of rejection?

For UNC i emailed the department and they let me know that all applicants had been notified for an interview. A few days later i checked my application and it said I had been rejected.

I totally understand! It's just one of those cases where you hear its competitive, deep down you know its competitive, and yet... all the rejections come in and it just hits you exactly how HORRIBLE this process is. I definitely consider myself EXTREMELY lucky! Didn't want to come off as ungrateful or anything. I was just really struck by how truly competitive it all is and its punched me in the face. lol.

thank you! I knew I needed something sherlock related to post in this forum.

Anybody know if there's an online status specifically for Baylor's PsyD program apart from the grad application status? The grad app status seems to be specifically if all your materials are turned on, and mine says its forward to the program. Am I missing the mark here or is that the only thing as to where they are at in the review process?

anyone want to claim the WashU interview on gradcafe? :/

I think you should be EXTREMELY proud of yourself. In the end hard work pays off, and as many others have said - you have done a lot better than most of us. I am getting a M.A. applied to 20 schools and haven't gotten any interviews with only about 5 schools still not sending out invitations. Clinical Psych is the most competitive field out there, and you can't take it personally. You're going to face a lot of rejections, grants not getting funded, papers getting rejected, and just a lot of ups and downs. Focus on your accomplishments though, and learn from your disappointments.
You apply to 8 schools knowing that you aren't going to get into all of them, if you thought you could get into all of them you'd only apply to 1 right? If OSU isn't your dream school take a year off, continue to write and do research and apply again. You seem very bright and like you have a good shot at going wherever you want.
Good luck, and be happy you got interviews and accepted into a school - there are lots of out there who would kill for an interview...let alone being accepted.
