Congratulations to everyone who matched! Anyone who gave up their pre-match find out how to get the deposit back yet? Thanks.

Bump. Someone on SDN has to know the answer. I rather not have to make a potentially awkward phone call.

Hey all...
I made the awkward call about the deposit refund. They said they will process all refunds by March 1, and that we should get them by march 15

You are the man/woman! Haha. Thank you 👍

"Hello, this is the Texas Tech admissions office. How may I help you?"

"Hey, when do I get my money back?"

"...what?"

*hangs up*

Did any other accepted applicants get an email invitation to the "Re-application" seminar today?? It had me worried there for a sec, and I went to check my status on both TMDSAS and Merlin lol!

I also got this email and decided to call them. They said they sent it out to all the people who have not been accepted yet. It does not mean you will not get accepted or wait listed.

Have you been accepted?? I matched to TTU Lubbock on Match Day (feb 1st), so they sent this email to accepted people also. It got me worried for a second, but I double checked my status on TMDSAS and Merlin.

I wish, I'm an out of state MD/MBA applicant that has been shown no love yet.

Um, why would people in the group want that? It's supposed to be a place for next year's class to get to know each other and ask advice from the class of 2015, not for everyone on facebook to join in or see what's going on.

I'd prefer if the settings weren't changed.

I'm just thinking maybe ppl who are waitlisted can also read the wall and get some more insights.

if any of you guys were trying to decide between ttuhsc and any other school (maybe except TCOM and other DO schools), i would strongly suggest ANY OTHER SCHOOL. i cant tell you how disappointed i am in the way the school is run and the impression that you get while vising during interviews is a farce. The faculty have to go out of their way to make sure students dont share any negative viewpoints with interviewees, even send out threatening emails of professionalism misconduct if you express any negative opinions of the school. there are sooooo many things wrong with the school, from most of our better professors leaving, to hiring rookies who, as they are lecturing in class, make bragging comments like "When people ask me a question and i dont know the answer, i dont want to seem dumb, so i just make up an answer... im sure you guys do that too, i do it all the time"

so yea, unless you are desperate and have no other options, i would strongly suggest going elsewhere. if you have any questions, plz feel free to PM me

When I was at my interview, there was some weird dude who was hanging out in the foyer by the tables where the interviewees ate lunch. As applicants, one-by-one, got up to go casually use the restroom, he stalked them down until they were both out of sight, and then proceeded to rip into the school and tell applicants about how much it sucked. He even admitted to one student that it took him 3 or 4 tries get into med school.

Was this you? You sound just like him.

Anyway, I get a funny feeling that you are the type of person who is generally anti-establishment--period--, and you would probably have similar complaints of any school you attended.

The informed applicant, which defines most of those on this forums, fully realize that TTUHSC's PR department is top-notch and thus their interview day presentations are excellent. They take that as a sign that the administration is enthusiastic about the school and eager to recruit the best applicants. I don't think many people let the interview day alone unduly influence their decision, though. Much more impressive than the interview day are the countless medical students, residents, and attendings who have contributed to this thread. They don't sugar coat things and freely share what they think the school's weaknesses are. But the overriding theme seems to be that Tech is a wonderful school, albeit somewhat unknown (partly due to its location), that has a whole lot going for it. Most importantly, they consistently produces excellent physicians who go onto very prestigious residencies.

For what it's worth, I will not be matriculating to Tech this Fall. The lure of family and my hometown tipped the balance to another school. But I still feel strongly about how good (and underrated) this school is.

So sorry, as far as the "expert witnesses" on this thread go, you are grossly outnumbered. However I would be interested to hear some specific examples of why this school, according to you, sucks so much.

EDIT: Found this old post from 2007 by this guy

pinkiee - i have been waitlisted at two schools, but i dont think i would want to go to either even if i get accepted... if there is anything that i learned about myself while traveling for interviews is that I wont be happy anywhere other than california.

kbear12 - i started cracking up when i read your post about your interview because i had the same experience lol... by any chance did u interview with Dr. Namerow? i didnt realize how bad my interview went until i read your post =)

Self-fulfilling prophecy? I can feel your pain, though. UCLA and Tech-Lubbock are like different universes, culturally speaking. If you're an Orange County guy at heart, I can understand why you'd hate Lubbock. But that doesn't mean that other applicants won't love it.

great post Morzh. I have spoken recently to one of my best friends who is at TTUHSC, and he and his friends love every minute of it. I think the particular complaint on this thread is an isolated case of a disgruntled individual.

 Is this real life? Pretty hilarious

Last year they found out around 03/15

Darn. Well we've been waiting this long what are an extra couple of weeks, lol? I just hope that it moves quickly (and that I'm on it)! Thanks!

Hi all. Good luck to those still waiting to hear back. Of those who were accepted, who's going to spring training?

E-mail notification about wait list was sent out today!

I got an email for the alternate list today. Sounds like more waiting until May at the soonest 🙁

How much meaning should I put into the fact that I got on the wait list? Is it a big deal or something that everyone gets? Trying to gauge my expectations. Thanks!!

supposedly its ~100-150 on the list, ~40 get an acceptance

Are you sure about that? When I went to the re-application seminar last year, I talked with dr. Peck and she said its usually around 60-80 and they accept around 30-40. That was last year though, and she wouldn't tell me how they determine who gets accepted off that list.

Anyone know if our files are sealed if we're on the wait list? Will sending additional Rec letters or letters of intent be beneficial if I have already sent a Rec letter and letter of intent prior to being placed on the wait list?

Just got off the phone with Tech admissions, the lady sounded like she had the speech rehearsed. The waitlist is unranked, HOWEVER when there is a seat available, they will look through and open applications to determine who gets accepted. Also, I asked if they accept updates such as letters of rec or letters of intent and she said no, the applications are already closed and they will not be accepting updates. She also told me that they have 140 ppl on the waitlist and they accept around 15-20 every year. Imo, I think she's underestimating a tad bit but we'll see. Good luck to everyone who's on it, we have a slim chance but it's better than nothing.

Here's to hoping. Anyone know what the chances are for an OOS to be accepted off the list? I'm guessing that it is probably lower and subject to more variables...

at the re-applicant seminar this year they said they were expanding the waitlist

I just got a DVD in the mail with stuff about Texas Tech and a letter from Dr. Peck thanking me for accepting a spot on the wait list. I thought it was great of them to add such a personal touch to the process. Really get good vibes from this school

Just got mine too, hopefully the list starts moving soon. Definitely nice on tech for sending these little packets out.

I'll trade my Tech dvd packet for your acceptance, good deal? Lol

If you have talked about your leisure activity [music in my case] in both the personal statement and "activities" sections at length, do you just talk about differenty activities? Or do you just slightly touch up on it? I wish this was an optional question.
