Audit sounds a lot more intense than screening. I don't know if I'll get an interview invite or a letter from the IRS.

On a serious note, one of my PI's was a researcher at tufts about ten years ago and did some legitimate stuff resulting in a publication in Nature and a way to stop fibroblastomas from metastasizing and moving around in the brain. This probably means absolutely nothing towards my application, but it never hurts to be hopeful I guess. Is it worth mentioning or am I just getting desperate?

You're getting desperate, and it's probably worth mentioning. You could talk about some specific insights he shared with you.

Yeah, don't be too desperate, but if you really want you could allude to it, such as "one of my closest mentors did x research at Tufts, which I find fascinating. I would honored to be part of a community where this sort of instrumental research was taking place." But be careful and put it in your own words and be honest about it, because most med schools actually read these forums 😀 .

Thanks for the advice. I actually discussed it with them this morning and I think I'm going to leave it out. The PI does interviews for Residency spots at a local hospital, so I trust his/her (anonymity) judgement and they made it out that the school doesn't care what someone's PI has done, the school cares what the actual student has accomplished and learned and that is the whole theme of my application. I was thinking more along the lines of trying to fit in somewhere why Tufts and because Tufts has helped develop the PI I work for and that in turn has helped advance me etc. But it is what it is, I had no bearing on any of the projects done at tufts and I have my own pubs to talk about.

Yayy just checked the website to see that I am "complete." I got the "audit" email yesterday but hadn't been contacted any further. I wonder when the Interview Invites will fly out...

I am not finished here, but what is an audit? Does that mean they are looking at the application?

wow lol... i kept pushing this one off because i thought 1000 characters would be long and hard to fill. i didn't realize how few 1000 characters really are. Finally submitted this one though, good luck to everyone ^^

My Audit is complete, now I'm under reveiw

^At first I thought it was an invite in my email... because it sounded like the audit was the last thing before interviews, but the audit is just to make sure all of your documents are in order.

totally thought it was an interview invite or rejection e-mail too! Just a 'complete e-mail'

things should pick up soon...for most schools

Just got the completed email! Fingers crossed for an interview! Tufts is my top choice!

LOL I'll be in debt for the rest of my life if I go here! Great school, though!

This is the audit email:

"Your secondary application has been received and your application is currently entering the audit process.

Your online secondary application will show your letters of recommendation as having been received only after our staff has manually audited your application and manually updated your secondary application record.

..."

Anyone else also submit additional letters? (in addition to a committee letter?) My letters are already submitted to AMCAS but it doesn't look like Tufts has received them yet

I have a quick question. On AMCAS, I said I was interested in the MD program but as I read through the website, the MD/MBA program seems really cool. Is there a different application for the MD/MBA program? Can I state my interest in this program in the MD secondary?

When did you submit the secondary?

In the Tufts MD secondary interface, there is a place to submit applications to dual degree programs (check the left-hand side bar). There is and MD/MBA application there with two questions for you to fill out specific to the MBA program.

does tufts seem like a numbers based school to anyone else?

also, are most ppl writing about "why tufts" in the "is there anything else" section? i don't know what to do.

Uhhh, yeah. Shorter essays (or no essays) = more focus on numbers IMO.

Not necessarily, we have already written LOTS in our amcas and I have heard from some adcoms is barely above a tie breaker at a lot of schools

Complete! LORs took ~7 days to upload even though my AMCAS was verified.

LOVE this school. The price tag far less so...

finally marked complete as well
hopefully they start giving out interview invites earlier than last year

Finally submitted my secondary today, but my "status" page says none of my letters have been received. All of my letters have been in AMCAS for over a month--anyone else have a similar problem? Does it resolve itself or should I call?

I was verified on 6/20 and haven't received a secondary. Is it time to send out an email? I had to do this for St. Louis U.

Did you assign them to Tufts and resubmit your AMCAS?

it takes a couple of days (at least) for them to manually mark the letter as received... for me, I submitted the app on Fri, and it was marked as received the following Tues or so!

yeah, that's funky. i actually got my secondary before my AMCAS was verified...

So I even though I only recently submitted my AMCAS, I got the secondary from Tufts. I already filled it out and everything but because I just submitted my AMCAS, it's nowhere close to being verified which means that Tufts doesn't have my official MCAT score or my Committee Letter.

Can I still submit the secondary before they get the rest of my material or should I just hold off to be safe?

so i just read the instructions again, and not in the actual wording of the esssay prompts, but in the general instructions, it says

"Please answer the following questions with information that is appropriate to your own situation. If the answer is "no", that is perfectly acceptable. Most applicants apply to many schools to optimize the likelihood of admissions. We understand this. If however, there is something you would like us to know, please share the details with us."

Does this make anyone else feel like they want to know "Why Tufts?" I thought that was just an "is there anythign else" essay...which most ppl probably say no to....now i'm starting to second guess myself -- maybe Tufts is a self-love school?

It would be difficult to write a meaningful "Why Tufts" essay in the 1000 characters provided.

yeah, you're right. but i looked through old threads and in like 2006 they had a 3rd essay asking "why tufts" along with (i'm assuming) these 2. ppl have gotten in leaving BOTH blank...lol. but i'm still nervous. Through reading old threads, it seems like ppl are saying tufts "only accepts the most highly academically qualified applicants" and that their entire "about Tufts" is about education and how rigorous it is...making me think they must want super gpa's and mcat's (more so than most other schools)-- i think they have more "normal" numbers in the MSAR dont' they?

Yes. Their average is ~3.7 and 32. They are known for rejecting people with much better stats because they don't want to be used as a safety school.

Um. No. How embarrassing. (It's going to be hard talking and walking today with my foot jammed in my mouth.)

I think all these secondaries are getting to me.

For some reason the "Character Estimation" box on my secondary is not working. I just wanna know if the 1000 character limit includes spaces or not... help?

it DOES include spaces and when you click further in the box, it'll show your actual characters (it kind of refreshes the page)

character estimation box on my secondary is also not working. even when i only type in one word, it still says i'm over the character estimation limit...

anyone else have this problem???

have you tried re logging in? I think that happened to me with one of the secondaries. i jz refreshed the page and relogged in. Or make sure the first time you copy and paste it fits perfectly, or it will keep on saying error lol.

well that happened to me with one of the secondaries... not sure if it was tufts :]

Did you try copying and pasting your response into Notepad before adding it to the application? I also had that problem when I transferred my essay directly into the secondary

Hi everyone!

Two things:

1) My MCAT score is released on Sept. 20
2) My AMCAS has been submitted and I'm filling out the Tufts Secondary.

Is there any advantage of pushing to get the secondary in, or will it not even be looked at until Sept20?

Thanks!

I had this issue. Try putting your cursor at the beginning of the box and holding down the delete key for a while. For some reason there were a bunch of hidden characters in my app. This fixed it.
