Watch out, Mayo is an alluring siren. She captured my heart and had me gazing at her beautiful, hallowed halls just to crush me.

I'm aware. 🙁 But I've got to dream. I can't just fasten myself to the mast and plug my ears.

(What's this doing on the Vandy thread? Come over to the Mayo if you want to give out appropriate warnings).

NO! Let's leave the pessimism on this thread.

Received the confirmation email. Here's to hoping vandy gives preference to its undergrads!

I have a Community HealthCorps (AmeriCorps) job in Nashville starting in September. Would it be worth it to send Vandy an "update email" about this before being screened for the secondary/interview?

I got the email, it basically says that they have your AMCAS in hand.

Some tidbits from the electronic message:
"You can expect to hear from us regarding your application six to eight weeks from the date of transmission of your verified AMCAS application to Vanderbilt"

"If the screening committee approves your application, an invitation to complete our secondary application and interview at VUMS will be mailed to the preferred address listed on your AMCAS application. You will not receive email notification."

"The letters of recommendation will be accessed only if you receive an invitation to complete our secondary application and interview."

secondary/ interview invite today!! (i did get notified by email, even though i also got the email earlier on saying there would be no email notification 🙂)

i never got the email that says they got my amcas. hmm

When were you verified? Please post the essays.

verified 6/15

1) Write a brief autobiography. As completely and precisely as possible, give a picture of yourself, your family, and events you consider important in you. In doing so, identify the values that are of greatest importance to you. If you have completed your undergraduate education, please comment on what you have done or have been doing since graduation. You may either upload a file from your computer or type your statement in the space provided. (1200 word limit)

2)
The learning environment of the medical school is enhanced by the inclusion of students with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences prior to medical school. What in your background or your experiences will uniquely contribute to this learning environment? (500 word limit)

3)
Please discuss a challenging situation that you faced in the past. Why was it challenging? How did you handle it? Knowing what you know now, would you do anything differently? What did you learn? (500 word limit)

Congrats!

When did you receive the email from Vanderbilt saying they received your application??

Got an invite! ...by email. What happened to the "we only do mail" thing?

Email from Vandy about my primary: 7/22
AMCAS verified: 6/23

Does Vanderbilt only accept 3 LOEs if they are separate letters. My school does not have a committee so I was hoping to submit 4 letters, but once I add the first 3 under Vanderbilt's secondary it won't let me add any more. If I add the 4th on AAMC will it go through? Is that allowed?

Same (except my primary was verified 6/24 i think)! So pumped. I've never been, but I hear the school and facilities are amazing.

Stoked! Does anyone know (ie previous admitted students) what the interview to acceptance ratio is? Seems like they interview a lot of people, but only have 100ish spots.

Interview/secondary invite email this afternoon! sooo exciting!

Does Vanderbilt need to have received letters to send out a secondary invitation? I'm pretty sure they don't consider them until afterwards, but I was just wondering.

I got this in via e-mail two hours ago:

"Dear GS Mikami,

Congratulations! On the basis of an initial review of your application materials, the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Admissions Committee has asked me to invite you to complete our secondary application and to schedule a personal interview.

We ask that you submit the secondary application before scheduling your interview. You may schedule your interview by entering the IRS (Interview Reservation Scheduler) after submitting your secondary application. Instructions for entering the Interview Reservation Scheduler are on the secondary application. A visit to the medical school campus will afford an opportunity for you to meet with students and faculty. Recommendation letters should be requested by the time you submit your secondary application.

On your interview day, please report to the Medical School Admissions Office, 215 Light Hall at 7:45 a.m. Your day at Vanderbilt will include two interviews with faculty members. You will only schedule your long interview. You will be informed of the time of your short interview upon arrival. An Information Session is scheduled at 11:15 a.m. with a tour of the medical school conducted by our students followed by lunch. A tour of CELA and the Children's Hospital will be given at 2:15 p.m. Your day will end at about 3:00 p.m."

Interview invite! My first! 🙂 Verified 6/3, AMCAS received e-mail on 7/24, 3.9/35/international.

Congrats to all of you who received an invite! I got a confirmation on 7/26, AMCAS verified 7/11. Here's hoping!

Interview invite! Very excited!

Nice, interview invite here as well! 3.72 sGPA/3.8 cGPA/37R. If only the interview-to-matriculation was a little higher... 🙄

Can I have an interview invite too please?
nothing on my end, but here's hoping that there are more batches forthcoming!

anyone else feel like ques #1 will talk about things from ques#2 and ques #3?

yes. I deliberately left my #3 answer out of the autobiography, since I knew it was what I wanted to write about for question 3. But I feel like my #2 was somewhat repetitive (of both my #1 and my AMCAS). oh well, with 2200 words of secondary plus our primaries, I'm sure they know we're bound to hit on some of the same topics more than once

I decided to put a snippet from my contribution essay into my autobiography...reworded and rephrased of course.

Over the course of writing my last...what is it now...24 secondaries, I've become really good at the following:

1. Copy-pasting sentences from various essays and using a series of transition words and phrases to form lovely mosaics resulting in new essays for different schools.
2. Rephrasing almost anything in at least 10 different ways.

Will these skills ever help me after this?

I do the same thing

Yeah they start real early. I'm going on the 16th so gotta start getting ready. Way earlier than I expected any interviews for sure.
