**2011 Acceptance Thread**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received phone call from Auburn University with offer of admission (post Bachelors), more information to follow in email format. No specific POI as it is a program designed to be collaborative.

Received email from DOT offering admission into Fall cohort as a post bachelors level. POI to be assigned later.

I'm not sure if someone already asked this, but I'm just curious how long the wait time is after interviews to find out good news.

I guess more specifically, is there a set date where schools HAVE to tell you your status? For example, we have to decide where to go by April 15... anything like that but the opposite way?

Yes, they have to make their first round of offers by April 1st. Usually though, they're happy to tell you when they expect to make first offers at the interview, and all the programs I've visited have emphasized that they are happy to answer questions about where they are in the admissions process, and they aren't bothered or annoyed by them. The actual wait time seems to range between three weeks and a couple days after the interview, depending on the program.

Yep, the 1st! Although I haven't been to a single interview day where anyone actually planned on waiting that long. I found out from one program three days after the interview day and it has been almost three weeks for my other interview and still no word. Don't stress 🙂

Is it in bad taste to inquire where exactly you stand when placed on the alternate list for admission? I was placed on the list and told to stand by but I would like to know if I'm next on the list or if there is four others in front of me. Any advice?

Some places will tell you and some won't. Some places don't rank their alternates. Some places are trying to create a certain balance in the incoming cohort, meaning that you're an alternate for one or two other accepted people but not an alternate for the other accepted people. You could probably ask whether or not you have a reasonable chance of getting accepted, which is a way of finding out if you are "high" on the list or not, but there's still a good chance they won't tell you if they didn't already.

I too was put on an alternative list and have not asked yet about any position I might be at...and I personally am fine with just waiting (for now) which may change when I get to decide between acceptances 🙂 However, I was wondering whether there is a difference between a wait-list and an alternative list??

Does anyone know?? Thx

Thanks for the input. So do you think I'm better off just waiting it out and not looking too desperate? The anxiety is tough but if I've dealt with it for this long what's another month?

I saw on grad cafe that they were notified of their acceptance by their POI. Does anyone know which of the five professors accepting students this year have already contacted their choice applicants? Thanks!

Has anyone heard from Catholic University post-interview?

So, I have been waitlisted at a couple schools I have already interviewed at and was wondering how common it is to get off the waitlsit into a school. It's a bit disheartening not to get an initial invite, and I'm wondering if I should be giving up at this point. Anyone else just waitlisted at this point? Any insignt on this part of the process would be helpful.

I think it depends on the program, to be honest. Loyola MD said they have never had to use their waitlist and I've been waitlisted there. So, yeah, not counting on that one.

Interviewed at LSU on Thursday/Friday and already heard back -- I'm the first alternate for my POI. There were four spots, one has already accepted. Now I just wait and hope!
Nice, I was there this weekend too. My POI said he'd meet with his students on Tuesday, let us know by Wednesday. Who is your POI?

I noticed that Emory clinical phd just went up on gradcafe. If anyone here has info about that, please PM me!

Does anyone have any info on when Fordham will be extending offers? It has been precisely 17 days since the last interview date (yes, I am neurotic!), and I haven't heard a peep about them anywhere! The past couple of years they notified in mid-February, so this is unusually late for them...

Accepted to UMass Amherst from waitlist via phone call from POI yesterday!

Is anyone here waiting to hear admissions results post-interview from the University of Iowa?

Received acceptance offer for the Clinical PhD program via email from POI.

Hmmm...since I have been wait-listed at Loyola also...that does not sound encouraging then. Did they call it alternative list in your case also? I somewhat still hope for Loyola...the email said "alternative list...blah, blah,blah...I will be in touch ASAP" - soooo, I am waiting for that....AM I delusional??? 🙂

The email said
.The number of qualified applicants exceeds the spaces available. Given your strong qualifications, we would like to offer you the opportunity to be placed on an alternate list.".

Would whoever posted the admission offer for "MSU" please clarify which MSU this came from? I can think of several possibilities off the top of my head.

Also, a general note for everyone: not everyone knows what you mean when you use initials only. I would ask you to please use at least enough of the name so that we all know what program you're talking about. You'll create fewer heart attacks that way. Thanks.

Received acceptance phone call this morning (2/28) for their Military Clinical Psychology Ph D program. Stoked! 😀

Congrats to everyone on their acceptances! I just saw on Gradcafe that someone was accepted to Wichita State. If that person is an SDNer, would you please PM me info about who called you to extend the offer and who is your POI?

Anyone heard any news from VCU?

I went to the interview on February 3rd and 4th and still haven't heard anything. I know they had three interview days (4th, 11th and 18th) so I'm expecting to hear something very soon.

Still, I wish I had the balls to call them and ask. Let me know if you hear anything rosebud12.

Can we just keep this the acceptance thread? (I.e just posting acceptances). We are all waiting to hear from programs and every time I see a new post on this thread I think it's an acceptance, when it's just "has anyone heard from X?" or "can whoever got into xxx PM me?". Forgive my irritation, but if you see an acceptance post by your program of choice-PM that person directly for more details if you're interested.

Thanks! Good luck!

That would work for the most part, but sometimes an acceptance just shows up on the master list (because they only PM'd the moderator and didn't post to the thread), so people see their school of choice but have no idea who to PM. 🙂

Gottcha! Maybe they don't want to be contacted and that's why they didn't publicly post. I get it-we are all waiting and impatience is slowly creeping up, but I don't think that stalking each other or posting multiple times about program x or have you heard is an efficient use of this thread. If people hear something they will post it or PM it to the original poster. There is nothing we can do about it. Again my apologies.

Got a post interview call from UTSWMC yesterday saying they didn't have an offer for me but that I was "ranked." Anyone know about ranking, and how it differs from a waitlist? Chances of getting accepted?

I actually disagree with this. If you don't want to read everyone's posts, why don't you just check the first page for updates and then you won't have to worry about it? I don't want everyone to know which schools accepted me because I would rather maintain some anonymity on here, but when people post and ask about a school I know something about, I will send them a PM and give them more information. The system seems to work for the vast majority of people following this thread. I'm sorry it is bothering you, but I don't think we necessarily need to adjust how we all post because of that.

What a novel and brilliant idea!!! Thanks for the tip-except that there acceptance posts on here that are not reflected on the first page. Uh oh!

Now now people.... let's all keep this civil! I think the stress of this may be getting to everyone a bit. I initially had the same thought as psyched2525 for the invite thread when people would post for me to message them when I posted the information right to the tread, but bottom line is it's an open forum and it helps for people to be able to have open communication. If someone doesn't want to read it, then skip over it. I agree that it's disappointing to see a post that didn't have the information you wanted. However, this thread will NEVER have the information you really want. Namely that the poi has accepted you. You are most likely checking for the negative news that someone else got it. I think that's something to keep in mind. It may be affecting the annoyance or anxiety level of most of us on here. Lets stick together, and not turn on each other!

I have been waitlisted at Syracuse University... but I was not interviewed. Has this happened to anyone else?

I just received admission offer via phone call from the program director for CUNY's clinical Ph.D. program.🙂

Programs seem to have one of two types of waitlists: 1) those where they "stash" only those interviewees to whom they don't initially extend acceptance offers but may later do so if any initial invitees decline, or 2) those where they list individuals not invited to interview but whom they may later want to interview (possibly via phone) should they need to fill empty spots in the cohort.

Saw an LSU acceptance go up on GradCafe. Aaahhh. Is it anyone here, by chance?

Okay, you clearly have some kind of mojo going on here as you are ROCKING the acceptance thread this year! 😀 Now, tell me....what's your secret???

Haha, that is very very kind, Thank you!! 😛 Man do I wish I knew! I applied a couple years ago and didn't have much luck! It's such a bizarre process. Thanks again, this forum has been so supportive...I am sending you all kinds of positive vibes, and I hope you get into your #1!!

BTW, weird that Fordham has been silent, right?

Would the person who posted the acceptance to UT mind PMing me their POI?

Thanks! I will accept all positive vibes that come my way. 🙂

And yes, Fordham is driving me CRAZY! I swear they are deliberately being slow, just to see how many of us they can push over the edge. Possibly as a way to winnow down their applicant pool?? 😱
