2011 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Heard from OU HSC. Rejected, but it was the nicest rejection I received of the 14!! I have now heard from all the places I applied. I have 3 interviews. I am trying to stay positive about the three I have and they are places I am excited about, but getting 14 rejections hurts.

@psychstudent5: Temple states on their website that they will let us know by the end of the day on ***16 December***. So I am assuming we should hear either way sometime today...

Good luck!

Anyone hear one way or the other from Jefferson county consortium

I believe that they just updated again to push it back to the 18th

Has anybody heard back (rejection or acceptance) from UIC - Child Track?

Thanks!

Has anyone been rejected from Woodhull? I know people have interviews... wondering if i should call them.

I received what looked like a mass rejection end of November, same day that a friend received a mass interview invite.

Seriously? Okay, at this point I'm pretty much ready to just write them off as a loss... don't want to deal with having to amend travel plans just for one site (and I'm very lucky to have enough interviews already).

Thanks, JKPsychology. 🙂

If it wasn't enough to be rejected the first time, Children's National in DC emailed me to make sure I got a rejection email because I may not have received it before. AND I had to reply to say that I received the rejection. So two rejection emails from them and I had to email to confirm my rejection. Thanks.

Same here. Yeah, I really liked that they required me to confirm that I received the letter - If I didn't reply would they worry that I might show up on interview day or something...?

Generic Interview invite (via email) for Child Guidance Center in DC...

and now I have officially heard from everyone.... phew, what an insane process.

Generic? Oh no. I had my heart set on that one.

Maybe I won't be able to move to DC to live with my husband.

🙁

.Well, I wouldn't rule it out yet! For one, it only appeared generic because it started as such "Congratulations! We would like to offer you an internship interview with the Child Guidance Clinic." and not with a "Dear PsychScience, we would like to offer you an interview". I have no real way of telling if it actually was generic or sent to me individually. They very well could have sent it out to individual applicants, and just been too busy to address it to my individual name. And if its rolling, I applied there really really early.

I just got my rejection from Karen Horney clinic. They forgot to mention the name of the site in the email. I had to go back to the APPIC listing to see if the program directors name matched. It is almost as if they pushed this process to the very last minute and quickly went through the applicants. I mean, who sends an email with typos that neglects to put the name of the site at 11:25 at night?

I haven't heard anything back from them at all. So I just emailed them wanting to know what's up. I'm obviously not expecting good news!

St. Luke's email was ridiculous. Who sends such a pleasant title line in an email and then says in the body "We're sending this email to inform you we will not be giving you an interview" then asks you to read the attached document? For what? Why would I want to read ANOTHER rejection paragraph...

Trinitas has a deadline of the 20th and I haven't heard anything bad. That's my only remaining "reach" site left, of which out of all my reaches I've gotten no interview offers. So needless to say I'm not hopeful for that either, but would be thrilled to get it.

5 Interviews, 12 Rejections, 1 Withdrawn, 2 Unknowns. I can't complain, but I probably still will and just did.

When did you hear from the Childrens National Medical Center? I still have not heard anything from them. Thanks!

Has anyone gotten rejections from the child guidance center in d.c.? I still haven't heard from them, central Texas clinical and forensic, or Morrison (date isn't until 12/31) has anyone heard from these sites?

December 8th was the original email. And then again today.

No rejection from Child Guidance Center.

Anyone heard news? I'm pretty confident that I'll get a rejection, but knowing one way or the other would help assuage the anxiety I feel every time I see a new email in my inbox.

Has anyone received a rejection from the Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Med? (Congrats to those who have posted that they received interview invitations - looks like an amazing site!!) I haven't heard either way, and I'm certainly not very hopeful at this point, but just wondering if anyone had gotten a definite no. Thanks and good luck to all 🙂

Thier notification deadline is the 20th

I posted about St. Luke's earlier and could not agree more. The "hello" in the subject line was mean, and then I was so confused about why I needed to read the attached letter! I thought maybe the letter would be long (offer more explanation, or something) but it basically said the exact same thing as the body of the email. Strange...

I got my Sharp rejection this morning.

I'm still waiting for Hudson Valley VA, so I'm hoping they are doing rolling interview invites since I know a bunch of ppl actually heard a while back. It does worry me a little that no one has heard for a while, but their deadline isn't until 12/31 so I suppose there is still hope.

Also waiting on Brooklyn VA, but they aren't notifying til next Wednesday... so I guess for now I can focus on the 4 (well, 3 left to go!) interviews I do have and stop checking my email compulsively. Now it's become a habit! Get up from the couch for any reason --> check email. Finish with a client --> check email. Breathe --> check email .

For those of you who did not hear anything from a site with a Dec. 15 notification deadline and have e-mailed the site for an update on application status....have responses been relatively prompt? The only site I'm waiting on said they would notify everyone by yesterday (regardless of what the decision was) so I e-mailed the TD this afternoon. I know they sent out a mass e-mail invite but I don't know if they have sent out any rejections (there's just one fellow SDNer that applied there and they got an interview. I don't know anyone else who applied). Checked my spam box, nothing there.

In other news...had my first interview today! 🙂 I think it went pretty well. All the fellow applicants were very nice as were the psychologists and interns. By FAR the most popular question was "what do you see yourself doing in 5-10 years?". In second place was probably questions regarding what I liked most about the site. They seemed pretty darn familiar with my application (the TD accurately named my current program when I introduced myself using my name only, a few interviewers knew what my dissertation was about and some talked about specific practicum sites). There weren't any questions that were terribly out of the ordinary and no "frowned upon" questions. I think the most interesting question I got was something along the lines of "If a person was diagnosed with X and was receiving significant services for it but you strongly disagreed with the diagnosis and whatever assessments you do confirm your diagnosis/refute diagnosis X but that would mean the person would no longer receive the services they have now, what would you do and how would you do it?"

I'm confused about this site's notification deadline. The appic directory states that the notification deadline is 12/15. Their brochure states the deadline to SCHEDULE an interview is 12/31. Yet sdn users that have applied here and not heard seem to think the notification deadline is 12/31. Can anyone clarify why it is thought the notification deadline is 12/31? I didn't see it in the brochure...

They (Biloxi VA) actually called me at work today with an interview invite!! I wasn't expecting to hear for a few more days, but it was really exciting because it's one of my top sites!!!! Now I've heard from all of mine - whew!!!!

ETA: I believe interview dates offered were Jan 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20

Got interviews from each today!

What is annoying is that SAPIC listed 3 interview dates in January on their APPIC portal page (Jan. 6, 13, and 27). I already booked interviews for the 6th and 13th, leaving Jan.27 open. Unfortunately, they stated in the email invite that interviews are being offered January 6 and 13 only! AHHHHHHH!!!!! 😱 Hopefully this will work out. I can't complain too much, as I now have 10 interviews, but still.....

If it wasn't enough to be rejected the first time, Children's National in DC emailed me to make sure I got a rejection email because I may not have received it before. AND I had to reply to say that I received the rejection. So two rejection emails from them and I had to email to confirm my rejection. Thanks.

I got my "second" rejection from CHOP today as well. Made it sound like I had emailed asking about my status and that my email had bounced back (although I hadn't.) I politely let them know that I had received both this and the previous rejection and that they do in fact have the correct email address. :bullcrap:

I am waiting on 4 sites with the earliest notification date of 12/20 going into the beginning of January. So my tally so far is 11 rejections, waiting on 4, 2 interviews scheduled the first being tomorrow. 😀

Good luck, theizzard! I am sending good interview vibes your way. :luck::luck:
I have my first tomorrow. :xf:

I'm in the same boat and there are a few others in my program that haven't heard from them either! I ended up calling the contact person this morning and left a VM but still haven't heard anything. It's a solid site by reputation but this isn't making them look so great!

Hi all,

I disappeared from this site for a few weeks as I managed my own anxiety about notifications. But now that they're finished for me I'm excited to see what you guys think about interviews, what your experiences are, etc. I'm happy to share mine too! I don't have an interview until next Tuesday, SOOOO nervous!

Got the official rejection from the Child Guidance Center. Looks like a mass email.

I was just going off of the excel spreadsheet I made... when I made it, I just looked at the later date reported as the notification date (similar to what I did with due dates, only I took the earlier of the due dates when there was a discrepancy). But you're right--it does say "deadline to schedule interviews" which makes it seem like thats *our* (the applicant's) deadline... but I feel that it's a little strange to list something like that in a brochure. Their deadline was also just Dec 1, so it made sense to me that they'd want a little more time. I'm not sure what to do now though... I don't really want to call, but the brochure, appic site, and VA site (where you're directed from the appic site and where you can access the brochure) all say to call in with questions. Hmmmm...

I'll probably just email them tomorrow. For some reason I need my rejection to feel at peace.

Hopefully, those who got rejected from Napa State hospital will feel at peace after reading this though... jeeeesh!

I emailed the TD on the 15th and he replied with a friendly email stating that they had some delays and would get back to everyone by the end of the weekend. I guess their website now reflects this as well. Good luck!

Good luck! If you get in touch with them, will you please let me know the outcome (or if they respond)? I may need to do the same to have this process finally be *over*.

Scary article on Napa. I knew about this stuff, but it's still no fun to read, and a friend of mine has an interview there... Ahhh.😱

It's definitely intense stuff. Even with a security guard in the room, I remember the somewhat eery feeling I had when first sitting down to evaluate a patient accused of murder. Mind you, he hadn't yet been convicted, but it's certainly still a much different atmosphere than testing college undergrads in a university clinic or medical center stroke patients.

Has anyone offered an interview at Coatesville been contacted for interview scheduling?

Has anybody heard back (rejection or acceptance) from UIC - Child Track?

Thanks!

I hadn't heard back anything for the adult track until today, and was confused because I knew acceptances and rejections went out on November 22nd.

The DCT got back to me today, and it turns out that somehow my rejection didn't arrive. I would email the DCT directly if I were you!

Has anyone heard from central Texas clinical and forensic? I am still waiting to hear from them &the notification date was 12/15

hey guys,

is there anyone here who still has not heard from mount washington pediatric in baltimore? in their brochure it said the notification date was dec 16 and it seems a few people on here had received rejections a while back. has anyone actually received interviews? or is anyone else still waiting to hear like me?

also, has anyone heard from uci cc or csun cc?

thanks!

Is anyone else still waiting to hear back from the Jesse Brown VA? I emailed the TD yesterday morning, and still have not heard anything. 🙁

nothing from UCI CC...but their notification is like Jan 2nd (craaazyyy lol). Are you a PsyD in counseling or clinical? I read a while back in these threads that some people got interviews at UCI, so I assumed I am getting a rejection (and plus I am a clinical student and they seem to love those counseling students). 🙁 (i want an interview here sooo bad but for me it is a lost cause).

if anyone else knows anything about it, please let us know! I really want to contact the TD (or the dude filling in for him now)...but its not the deadline yet.

hi,
i am a clinical psychology student. i hadnt heard of anyone hearing back from uci yet. esp since their notification date is in january, but i figured id ask just in case. i have been getting a lot of rejections from university counseling centers though 🙁

thanks. good luck to u too! i also got one cc interview so far (still waiting to hear from 2 more places). i guess its ok considering i have no cc practicum experience. however, i thought the fact that i worked in a community counseling center my first year (with many college students as clients) would help me...guess not. lol

Precisely the reason why faculty explictly told us NOT too apply there, as it is generally well-known around here that things have not been going well there for several years now. The risk of being hit is always there when working on inpatient units (especially state hospitals), but the sharp increase and nature/duration of these attacks suggests massive gaps in security procedures that should in place in a place like this. The drastic increase also suggests to me that some of these patients may simply be malingering psychopaths (i.e. the forensic population) rather than psychotic patients who need inpatient treatment.
