2011 APPIC Internship Application Thread

Skype would make me nervous as well. I'm imagining accidentally clicking a button and a dolphin go floating across the screen or some picture showing up on top of my head. :laugh:

I'm wondering if some individuals question the APA thing as they consider that their own programs would not allow them to apply to any other type of sites so they must not be "good enough," even though those sites may provide perfectly acceptable training for your goals. My dept requires an APA internship or we're not allowed to graduate. :scared:
 
Like everyone else who didn't match in Phase I, I was SO incredibly upset. I spent the whole weekend with a box of tissues wallowing in self doubt. I received a phone call for an interview (hopefully only the first) on Thursday afternoon. They called back Friday-twice to offer opportunities for me to speak to a current intern and then with the training director. They expressed interest in me and said they wanted to make a decision because the director was going on vacation next week. It seemed like she was pushing a bit for me to say something committal about my own interest in the site. I am very interested, but I certainly want to wait until I speak to more sites (again, I hope). I'm reluctant to believe their interest as I heard a lot of sites did this sort of thing in phase I where they led several people to believe they were going to rank them high, and then didn't. I wonder if they were just telling me some kind of story about the director going on vacation so I think they aren't interviewing a lot of other people? Has anyone else heard of this happening? Appreciate any thoughts.

That's really sketchy of them to do...and they know it.
 
For those that have gotten interviews from sites during Phase II, how did sites notify you that you had been selected for an interview? phone? email? both?

Mine was via phone. I've only had the one so far (hopefully more to come). I've heard of other people getting emails to set up interviews for next week. I also saw on here that some people got emails stating they were not being considered. The intern network email list-serve sent a message that most sites haven't even begun to contact people yet.
 
Good luck today fellow Phase II-ers!!! Here's to hoping we all receive a lot of interview offers today!!! (not that I'm impatient or anything....)

Does anyone have a list of the sites participating in Phase II? I tried to see the openings, but my login and password no longer work.

UC Davis sent out an email that they have almost 300 applicants. What do folks think--typical of round 2 sites or just a California site thing?

I have no factual basis for this, but I think this will be fairly common for Phase II APA sites - and probably quite a few APPIC sites too. 🙁

Wow! That is about one third of the remaining applicants. I am guessing the more competitive sites may have similar numbers, unfortunately. Also, it is in a very desirable location, which probably doesn't hurt.

Eeek! That is crazy. I wonder how many U of W has since it appears to be the only neuro site...

Congrats on the interview. Sorry they are being pushy. That def sounds like they are pushing the APPIC rules. Mind sharing what site it was?

Also, can people post who they hear from (or if others they know hear) like we did in Phase 1? I just heard from Penn-Ohio Int Consortium 🙂

It's nice to hear interview offers are beginning to roll in! Congrats! I agree, it is really helpful to hear about what sites have been offering especially since we are likely not going to receive notification from sites we do not get interview offers from. I heard from the Ohio Psychology Internship this morning 🙂

Even though it's making me panic, thanks for sharing the info and congrats on the interview! 😳 I thought I would be a decent fit there...and I live in a bordering state! I could really use some good news from a site ASAP 🙁

I just got really excited b/c someone called my cell phone from a number I didn't recognize. I looked up the area code and it happens to be an area code that covers an APA site I applied to. Who was calling? The American Red Cross, wanting me to sign up to donate blood again. To be fair, the call did get my blood churning...
 
Has anyone else heard from sites? I thought there was going to be a lot of info posted today 😉
 
I heard from IWK and Wisconsin today (SAPIC and Minneapolis Board of Indian Health on Friday).

Ugh...if it was a mass e-mail, looks like I'm 0-3 so far, waiting on 18 more (with several absolute long shots in there) :scared:

Phase I was great right up until Match Day...maybe Phase II will suck right up until Match Day??

I'm sorry. This is just an awful experience for a lot of us. If it helps any, the email was not a mass email.

Was hoping to wake up to an email or phone call this morning... nothing! Silence! It seems like it is getting down to the wire as far as interview offers go, considering all interviews would need to be finished by the end of next week. Seems like the system really isn't set up the best way, especially since sites no longer need to notify us if they are not offering an interview. I'd rather know it's a "no" than wait with some glimmer of hope.

Anyone else hearing anything from sites today? It helps to read about the sites others have been offered interviews at, at which time I cross the ones I applied to and didn't hear from off my list.
 
I think we're all expecting sites to get at us WAY too early. I'm not expecting anything before next monday.

I hope this is the case, however, wouldn't we need to finish interviewing by next Friday? I am guessing they are not going to interview over the weekend next weekend and that Monday our rank lists are due.
 
The big boys are officially entering the game...just got an interview offer from Baylor. Mind is officially blown as there are other sites that are much less competitive that I'm am much better fit for that I've gotten presumed rejections from and now I have an interview at a highly competitive site that I'm not a good fit for (but would thoroughly enjoy the opportunity of course! I like them...just not sure why they like me!) Individualized e-mail, for those also waiting to hear from them.

I can understand why you have this type of thinking, as this process will make anyone self-doubt. But I think many of us here at SDN know why they like you. You (along with many others here) are one of the very, very qualified applicants who just happened to slip through the cracks of a broken system.

You've earned this interview. Now go kick some ass. :laugh:
 
I imagine a lot of these sites are overloaded with applications...likely more than they had the first round. This system is definitely flawed...

No news for me.

I agree. Sites have only had 3 days days to review liklely 100s of apps. One of the sites I heard from e-mailed me around 5am and 6someonething pm, so she is oboviously putting in VERY long hours. I doubt most sites are doing this, and they have their normal responsibilities as well. One week (next week) is plenty of time to squeeze in 30-some odd phone interviews (a typical # in Phase I) if they already planned to put the time aside, giving them this week to narrow down the people they want to interview. Let's be realistic and not pessimistic. There is still plenty of news to be heard 🙂

Also got an interview offer today from Children's Hospital in Oakland, CA - offer came via phone call.
 
Anyone hear from any Canadian sites yet? I'm hoping to hear from London, Ottawa Hospital, Kingston... I'd love to hear when others know!
