UB only holds interviews on Wednesdays. I'm an undergrad at UB and hope to stay for med school here. 30N mcat, 3.95 gpa, 1 year research, average ec and LATE application (just completed). I guess my only hope will be my LORs. I hope they will add some weight since the letter writers are also faculties in the med school.

Some tips for people not from buffalo. If you choose the hotels that are close to north campus, you will have to commute to south campus for interview, BUT it's much safer in north. The neighborhood around south campus is kinda ghetto.

I stayed at the Marriott and they had a free shuttle to the campus (dropped us off right in front of the building) and a free shuttle to the airport. It was really convenient!

Also, Buffalo may have started a student host program by now? You may wanna call and ask.

This is really helpful! Thanks!

You're welcome! Enjoy your interview 🙂

Oh yeah, Marriott will pick you up from the airport too if you call them when you land.

I heard from a friend that UB holds committee meetings only once every month. Guess I'll need to wait until November for an II 🙁

can anyone tell me if this school sends out "application is complete" emails?

Interviewed on Sep. 5th, just checked my status online: WAIT LIST....i thought they would let us know on October 15th...anyone else have any status changes?

I think they can't let you know you're accepted until Oct 15 at the earliest. They can let you know anything else before that.

Also wait listed. Bright side, not rejected !

That being said, on interview day they told us that they have the decision made by the day following the interview and they will let you know immediately (assuming it is past Oct. 15)

I think that they meet that night to go over the people that they interviewed. They score you and you can check which part of the waitlist you are on around February.

Waitlisted...I'm hoping it's a placeholder until they can tell us we've all been accepted on Monday!

Last year Oct 15th landed on a Saturday... so technically individuals would have found out on the next business day, Monday, Oct 17th. Nevertheless, Mr. Rosso encouraged people who had been interviewed to check their status on Friday night (Oct 14th). So, finding out about our disposition the weekend before is plausible.

But everyone who posted on sdn so far has been waitlisted...it seems unlikely that the proportion of people waitlisted is THAT high.

Actually I thought buffalo was one of the schools known to wait list most people up front?

So far there have been five people who have said that they have been wait listed. That is too small a sample size. So, the statement "unlikely proportion of people wait listed is THAT high" is, simply put, invalid.

I am not saying you are wrong so please do not take any offense... I was simply providing an example where people were informed a little bit earlier than Oct 15th about the outcome of their application.

We will find out on Monday anyway.

Actually I thought buffalo was one of the schools known to wait list most people up front?

Yup. That is true.

I am wondering if there is any movement in the wait list prior to Feb 1st. I briefly went through the previous year's thread and was unable to see this happen. Just wondering if I should expect to be on the wait list until Feb.

Is this real? I'm freaking out from excitement, but it's not even the 15th. Did I really get the acceptance or is this a glitch?

I already called my parents, I hope this is for real.

Edit: Will Buffalo send emails tomorrow?

sigh.

and with a 28Q MCAT

Keep the hope alive everyone. Buffalo definitely looks at their applicants as a whole person, not just by the numbers. I am so thankful.

Congrats man! Here's to a few more acceptances for you!

As for me...waitlisted. Just got the email.

Apparently the WL moves fast post Feb, so as long as you're in the top 1/3 you should have some good news...?

seems like no real wait list movement until march 😴

Congrats to those accepted, and hold tight to those waitlisted. Last year the top 2 tiers of the WL all got offers.

I'm not really sure why I'm having such a hard time even getting in state interviews for state school. I have above median stats for matric, but so far only interview at SUNY upstate. Meanwhile I have interviews at top state schools OOS. I have significant ties to buffalo and UB, but I've just about given up on SUNY at this point.

I am sure you will get into another amazing school!

WL as well 🙁

None from me, my MD interviewer was flat out not impressed with any of my answers for some reason. "That's...not really unique to our school." Each and every answer I gave.

And here was the final knife in my back:

Hey thanks man! That's a bummer about the waitlist but I hope you see some early movement. Don't worry too much though, I know we had several interviews and it's still really early in the cycle. I wish you all the best for success. Definitely met some awesome people on this interview trail, and perhaps if things go well, we'll see each other on the first day of classes at one of the places we interviewed at.

Wow.. that's harsh

Any suggestions on transportations from the airport to UB and hotels near UB? Thanks.

Where do you guys check your status online? I got an "application complete" on 9/24, but that's just about it. I am OOS, so I am worried that I won't get much love here.

There's one hotel in front of the UB South Campus that apparently sends shuttles to the airport to pick you up and can provide it on your way back. Look it up. I can't remember the name because I stayed at the Marriott, which does the same but is far more expensive. A couple people on my interview day mentioned it. Good Luck!

Holiday Inn in Amherst is great! They pick you up in the airport and drop you off at the school for interview. they even pick you up from the school and take you to the airport if you are leaving on the same day.

Anyone have official interview/acceptance ratio? for both oos and is?

According to US News:

In-State
Interviewed: 375
Accepted: 289 (77%)

Out-of-State
Interviewed: 221
Accepted: 117 (53%)

does the number of applicants accepted include those that were accepted off waitlist?

I believe so, but it doesn't state that specifically anywhere.
