Glad to hear it. Was he particularly research focused, or was it just a general conversation?

Also, do you think that making a 5:30 pm flight would be doable? The e-mail says everything should wrap up around 3:00 pm and I don't know how long it takes to get to the airport, or how long it should take to get through security on a Monday afternoon.

It was mostly general conversation though we did more about research than most of my interviews. Not really specific details about my research but where I saw research fitting in to my medical school career and future career. For someone new to Vanderbilt(he has only been there a few months) he was very passionate about the new curriculum and knew a lot.

I am not sure about the airport. From my experience on a Monday, 530 is probably fine. You can get a shuttle pretty easily(forgot the name...), the trip was not that long and the Nashville airport was crowded but not particularly busy on Monday. Nymphicus can probably provide a better answer.

Has anyone received an acceptance recently? Are they still following the Friday/Sunday admit? Anyone know what time Dean Zic tends to call?

I had. 5:00 flight and I made it with plenty of time. I got through security quickly and it took about 20 minutes to get to the airport because there was some traffic. I would recommend calling a cab and having it scheduled to pick you up at 3:00 so you don't have to wait for one. Also, other people from your interview day probably will need a cab too so you can split it! 5 of us from my day all split it, ended up being about 6 dollars a person. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, this was really helpful. Going to Vanderbilt would be a dream.

anyone have a link or directions on how to obtain student hosts?

Has anyone from Limbo received a secondary invite recently? I know that a bunch of people have said that they were just waiting...got the "received" email on 9/18--anyone earlier than that hear back either way?

(I'm trying to figure out whether there's still a chance that I'll get a secondary or if they're just not rejecting me quickly. I've been checking the mail and still nothing.)

I was one of the "limbo" applicants waiting for a secondary and since it had been a super long time, I decided to call just now. Admissions office is really receptive and it turns out they sent me a letter weeks ago that I never got. The lady said she couldn't disclose the contents of the letter over the phone, but is sending me a copy via email in the next ten minutes. I assume it's probably bad news, but I'll be glad to just know one way or another. If you're feeling impatient, I would say it can't hurt to call.
Vanderbilt is an amazing place (its my undergrad alma mater), good luck everyone!\
Edit: Rejected indeed 🙁 Still, go 'Dores...

Sorry to hear. I am nervous. Hope my mail is not lost on the way.

Did you call Dr. Patricia Sagen?

Anybody who interviewed early Oct heard back yet? I'm 10/5 and hoping to hear soon...

Has anyone with the "under active consideration for interview" emails received further communication since Oct 16th?

Rejected pre-secondary...can't say I wasn't expecting it but it still sucks. Good luck to the rest of you still in the running!

Also a first week of October interviewee and am dying to hear from Vandy... :xf:

:luck: Good luck to you both!! Hopefully we will have lots of good SDN news soon! :luck:

I am interviewing next week and I have a question for those who have already interviewed:

How adequate is the so-called continental breakfast? Should I find something to eat before I get there or am I fine?

Also, do I need to make a reservation for the airport shuttles?

Any restaurant recommendations or other activities to kill time before and after the interview?

Standard, sparse continental fare. H2O, coffee, fruit, and pastries IIRC.

OJ and pastries. I would eat beforehand.

No need to make the reservation beforehand. Right as you're exiting the airport, there is a desk for the Grayline shuttle, and you just purchase your round trip ticket on the spot. The shuttles operate on a set schedule (to and from airport).

First snail-mail rejection. Pre-secondary. Complete 9/18; 3.55/ 36M

I am a VMS I and would agree with the others who have chimed in. The continental breakfast the admissions office provides is very nice as far as med school interviews go. But you're probably best off having a real breakfast before coming.

As for the airport shuttle, the Grayline Shuttle works very well. If you have them drop you off on the med school campus and get picked up there too, you can receive a discount by telling them you're interviewing at Vandy Med. Just make sure to schedule your pickup time to go back to the airport.

Before and after the interview, I'd encourage you to spend time talking to students here. We're all very friendly and approachable and would be happy to tell you about why we love Vandy or answer any of your questions. Don't forget that interview days are about you evaluating the school just as much as the school evaluating you! (If you are in need of restaurant suggestions, I have a post a few pages back about some great options in the area.)

I'm interviewing here on Friday and still have not received a student host assignment even though I already submitted my request weeks ago. I know it's still relatively early to be concerned, but when do interviewees usually get a student host? Like a few days before their interviews or a few weeks?

Usually students here are very enthusiastic about hosting interviewees. However, we have an exam coming up next Thursday and Friday. That's probably why we are not receptive to these requests.

🙁. Is there any current student here willing to host me? I'm running low on my budget for interview and was really hoping to get a student host here.

I can assure you that the coordinators are trying very hard to find hosts for interviewees at this moment.

sorry if this question has been asked before, but anyone know how long to wait before we get a decision for interview invite or rejection after the double checkmarks?

has vanderbilt released any post interview decisions since that first Friday...October 19th? maybe they have but no one has posted about it?

If our interview is later than 9am, do we still have to show up at 9 or just like 15 min before our interview time slot.

Be there on time in the morning.

Ok ic. Thanks! I really didn't know how it was set up and what others were doing.

Glad to help.

If you find you have some free time throughout the day, feel free to explore one of the many hospitals, sit in on a lecture, or maybe even explore the larger campus. It is quite pretty in the fall.

+1. The check marks took about a month to receive, so we should be hearing back soon..ish!

I submitted mine on the 1st of september and got the check marks on the 4th of october and still in Limbo. I am hoping we will hear back from them soon.

Is it too late to complete secondary application now ?

Late? Absolutely. Is it so late as to make it not worth doing? Probably not, but others around here may know much better than I do.

wow still no acceptances since 10/19?

Seriously! I was looking at last year's thread and it seems like we should have heard more by now. Maybe the committee is meeting less often because there are half as many interviews this year?
