I'd do your best not to let something like that bother you. I think most selection committees would be the first to tell you that their pre-interview selection metrics/criteria aren't perfect, and that qualified applicants unfortunately quite often go uninvited.

If they're inviting you for an interview (after waitlisting or even initially "rejecting" your app), they're open to the idea of you heading there for internship; they generally want to meet you just as much as you want to meet them. Just think of it as your opportunity to shine in person.

Everyone,

Before everyone on this list has a heart attack because one person has reported hearing back from a site, let me state categorically that it is VERY EARLY FOR ANYONE TO BE HEARING BACK ON THEIR APPLICATIONS OR GETTING OFFERS FOR INTERVIEWS! Some application deadlines haven't even passed yet, much less have sites had the opportunity to review materials and contact applicants to set up interviews.

So, if you haven't received any notification yet, all that means is that you are one of 4,000 other applicants who also have not yet received any communication from sites and who feel like they are the only one in North America who hasn't heard anything.

Remember that each APPIC-member site is required to list in their Directory information the date by which they have committed to notifying every applicant as to whether or not they are being interviewed. The purpose of that requirement is so you can know what to expect and when to expect it. Those are the dates that you should attend to, and you should not count on hearing anything prior to that date. APPIC recommends, but does NOT require, a December 15 notification date, which some sites use and others don't. Check the Directory to be sure.

If you want to make yourself really anxious for no good reason, you can: (a) wonder how each site notifies applicants (alphabetically? by date the application was received? by astrological sign?, etc.) and how you will fit in that process, (b) start worrying two weeks before the "interview notification date" in the Directory about why you haven't heard anything and then assume it must be bad news, and (c) assume that if a classmate hears from a site before you do, it means you're toast. All of these are tried and true methods of generating gobs of anxiety while waiting to hear from sites.

Seriously, go by the dates in the Directory, and assume you'll hear at 11:59pm on those dates and not a moment earlier. Will some notify you days earlier? Yes, but some won't. One year, I sent out my notifications the evening of my interview notification date, and I was surprised how many applicants told me that they had assumed they weren't getting an interview because they hadn't heard anything from me.

In the relatively infrequent event that you don't hear from a site by the end of that "interview notification date," you should call or e-mail the site the next morning to inquire about your status.

so I received a notification 11/21 for an interview at University of Chicago instructing us to send in our interview date preferences (had 4 to choose from), and that they would get back to us to "confirm the date via e-mail within the next couple of days." Well, I sent off my preference that afternoon, and it's now been 8 days and I haven't heard back- is it time to re-email? I don't want to bug, but I also don't want to miss a slot due to email weirdness.

Given how quickly dates tend to fill up, I personally would say that 8 days is enough time to have waited before sending a polite follow-up email.
 
Email invites offered today at SJSU. Phone interviews only, but there's an open house on Dec. 27th.

I wish the appic website didn't choose right now to be down. I was gonna make myself an organized list of each site's notification date. :annoyed:

Got an invite from MGH, Bmed elective. The email was personalized and they are doing rolling invitations.

I did that over the weekend while I was twiddling my thumbs... I found that while most of my sites listed 12/15 in the directory, they had something else often listed on their website or in their materials, so make you check both places (once the website is functioning again that is)! Have fun!
 
I just got a mass email interview invite from Geisinger (child track)!
 
Rejection from Edmonton Consortium via a really pleasant email.

That one sucks 'cause my friends got interviews and a ton of my colleagues have gone there. 🙁

Also, I know others have posted about other tracks at Duke, but one of my classmates got an interview for the Neuro track last week. Not sure the details of whether this was email or phone.

Haven't heard anything yet, but if you consider that they have 19 slots to fill, that means they need to interview a LOT of folks. That could add several days to the amount of time they need to review applications.

Just received an interview offer for Track 1: Mental Health (email) for the Ottawa Hospital but rejected by Edmonton 🙁
 
Last year, my rejection from the Boston Consortium came on 12/1 via email. This year, they haven't sent their thoughtful but anxiety-provoking confirmation/informational email (sent last year on 11/24). Last year, they offered interviews on 12/15 and requested that people get back to them about attending interviews by 12/10.
 
Don't know if anyone on SDN applied here, but University of Pittsburgh Counseling Center should be sending out their notifications this Friday. If I hear that changes, I will update in this thread.

First time posting on here since I got into grad school... eep! Been trying to stay off the site but I got too curious. Interfaith also sent out rejections. Ugh. Worst part of the process by far.
 
For those who get interviews at University of Miami Counseling Center and the Mailman Center at UM... are you PhD or PsyD?

Also, has anyone else heard about Geisinger adult track? If I haven't heard from them yet, should I assume this is a rejection?

3 rejections so far, no invites. Horrible couple of weeks.
 
Hello all! I just joined the board, but wanted to contribute my updates. I got a rejection from Minneapolis VA today via email. I also received a rejection from Milwaukee VA last Tuesday 11/22 via email. 0/2 thus far, but trying to stay positive.

Friend of mine received a rejection from San Jose State Counseling Center. Not sure if it was email or phone, etc.
 
I just received an e-mail inviting me to the Seattle VA's open house. I also received one for American Lake earlier today.

Congrats on everyone who heard from McLean! I have not heard anything yet, so I'm assuming I'll receive a rejection but am staying cautiously optimistic.
 
Emails are out from the Seattle VA. They don't do interviews, so it's just a "you're still in the running" email.

One interesting part of the email is that they only send them out to people who they would take and make very clear that they will be ranking you.

I got an invite to UCSF, Public Sevice and Minority Cluster. It was personalized. I had assumed that I would not get an invite, given that they already sent invitations. Another case of not counting yourself out too early. I know this process is difficult, but we'll get through it!

Definitely excited about the invites so far. Good luck everyone!

I had a similar experience with that site- they didn't respond immediately to my preferences. I ended up sending another email because I had made an error on the first (way to make a great impression) and they responded very quickly to the second- it didn't even look like they had gotten the first email. Email them again is my advice
 
thank you- I did re-email. It turns out they sent a reply, but I never received itl They apologized profusely, which was sweet but not needed- email errors happen to everyone sometimes.
