2012 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got an interview at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY!! Interviews are held between Jan 3-17th. It was a mass email I think.

Congrats!! Which track did you apply to? Also, are interviews being held on all weekdays in the date range (Jan 3 - 17th)? Or only on specific days?

Thanks!

If they're an APA accredited site, it's almost definitely the 15th (there are VERY few consistent exceptions to this).

Thanks for your reply. It is an accredited site, so I am not sure what is going on with the conflicting notification dates.

Just got a mass email invite to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in TX 🙂 ("dear intern applicant")

Has anyone heard from:
Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health in Canton, OH
Ethan Allen/Lincoln Hills School in Irma, WI or
The Superior Court of D.C. Child Guidance Center in Washington, D.C.?

This waiting game is just plain obnoxious!😕

Just received interview offer from Western Washington University CC - phone interviews only, with dates and times to select from.

Broke my 3-in-a-row rejection streak! 😀

...aaand just got a rejection from Towson University CC. Can't the internship gods let me have at least a few hours to enjoy an invite before sending me back down with a rejection?? Grrrrr...

Congrats!! I had a 5-in-a-row streak going..not fun, until it's broken of course!😛

I applied to the adult track, and interviews are on specific dates. They are on: January 03, 11, 12, 13, & 17, 2012

Hello fellow obsessive SDN checkers,

I'm wondering if anyone has heard (either way) from:
UW School of Medicine - general adult psychiatry track :xf:
Charleston Consortium - general & neuropsych tracks :xf:

?????????????????

Thanks.

A few people posted about Charleston invites (both of those tracks) about 2 weeks ago. But Charleston is known for doing rolling invitations, so don't give up hope!

Thanks for the update, and congrats on your interview! Was the e-mail addressed to adult track applicants or indicate that it was for a particular track? Sites vary widely in how they contact folks about interviews, so people are just trying to figure out if that was the only e-mail or whether perhaps other tracks might be notified later.

Has anyone who applied to the child/adolescent track received an interview as well?

I applied to child/adolescent track and have not heard anything either way. For the person who got the interview, did they name you in message (e.g., Dear First Name Last Name) or was it "dear applicant" ? Thanks!

:banana:Yay! Invitation to Child and Family Guidance Center- Northridge (Trauma Track).

Phone/Skype interview invite from University of Central Florida (UCF) Counseling Center!

Anyone gotten interviews at Johns Hopkins CC? I saw some rejections previously, but didn't see anyone list an invite. For now I might cross them off my list - the ivys seem to be getting a HUGE number of apps this year, even more than in past years!
Good thing for you that Johns Hopkins isn't an ivy... unless they changed it since I was there for college 🙂

I have a question--- I booked an interview at one of my sites for the last date they offered (in Feb) because it's out of the way of the other potential (fingers crossed) interview dates. Does anyone have strong opinions on when it's best to interview with a site... early or late? The only thing about interviewing late is I'm wondering if by the time they get to me they may already have a list of people they've already decided on ranking highly and I'll have to work unduly hard to be impressive. Is there some potential truth to this or do you all think it's nonsense?

Our TD said that although there is a primacy/recency effect for the interviewers, it is important to remember that we will likely be "more nervous" at the beginning of the interview process, and "more tired" towards the end. He recommended to book the ones that are really important to us right in the middle of our interviews, so we'll have a happy medium of "healthy anxiety." Also, we'll be semi-used to the process by then, but not exhausted.

I think it's nonsense, at least for the sites where I've done practica. Those sites would have a few days of interviews over a month or so and would write up notes/evaluations on each candidate immediately after the interview. Then, usually in early-mid February, the sites would have all the interviewers and training faculty get together and they'd choose the applicants that they wanted to rank. I only ever heard 3 candidates - of hundreds - get talked about outside of these times (and the way that one was discussed was one major factor in my decision not to apply to that practicum site for internship). One was a scheduling issue for the interviewer (not a reflection on the applicant), one was a "we have someone with these specific awesome experiences, I'm so excited" comment, and the other was really inappropriate.

When looking at interview date preferences, I was thinking of the primacy/recency effect... I think this is the kind of thing where you'd like to be on their minds, lingering, rather than one of the dozens with fantastic credentials early on. Who knows, though?

Just got a rejection from Mt. Washington. Seemed like a mass email, not addressed to anyone. I am surprised, I expected to get that one. No fun.

The email was addressed to "dear applicant" and it specified that the interview offer was for the adult specialization. They will probably have a separate email for the child track. Hope this helps, and good luck to those still waiting!

Ditto on the Mt. Washington rejection; however, I wasn't shocked since invites went out quite awhile back.

4 rejections, 1 interview, 12 to go...and now I'm starting to panic a bit.

my bad..... it didnt quote the post i responding to....received a rejection from Towson CC

Same here! Here is looking to the streak of interviews that is sure to be coming our way soon!!🙂

four rejections at this point (stanford CC, Northwestern CC, U Maryland CC, and Kaiser SD). No interviews. 14 more to go. judging by what I'm seeing on this thread, maybe I shouldn't have applied to so many counseling centers.

Assuming that people reading this thread are applying for internship this year, we have 3-4% of applicants as a captive audience (also assuming similar numbers apply this year). Wow!

How many people applied last year?

4199 (http://www.appic.org/Match/MatchStatistics/ApplicantSurvey2011Part1.aspx)

That's a few hundred more than the year before. Applicant numbers keep going up! Site numbers go up, too, but not nearly as quickly.

Wanted to clarify: that's how many registered for the match. There are actually applicants every year who don't register/participate in the match because they don't get any interviews. So the situation is even worse than these numbers suggest. :smack: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Same here on the Mt. Washington rejection, expected it but still ugh...... Good news is still coming.

Just got a call for an invite to the neuropsych track at Missouri HSC! Someone else got a call from them a couple of days ago, so I had tentatively crossed them off my list.

Hennepin County Medical Center sent mass email for attending open house. Gave two dates in January

Does anyone know which tracks were sent interviews on 11/21 for the Georgia Health Sciences University/Charlie Norwood VA?

They have 6 different tracks and I'm just wondering if all of them have received invites...

EDIT - Ok, so I saw one message on the thread that said the Health Behavior - Trauma/PTSD track had been called for interviews...Any others?
