Just thought I would throw this out there again. Unfortunately my school is just not a reliable source for me to discuss internship interviews. Anybody have any ideas about how to approach a question about interviewing at other sites when you only have one interview?

I'm currently an intern and will be participating in the interviewing of applicants in January. I can't confirm whether other sites view this as seriously, but we were told that according to APPIC rules, we are not allowed to ask where else applicants are interviewing.

Also, when I was interviewing, the only people who asked about where else I was interviewing where other applicants. The closest I ever got to a direct question about applying to other sites was a comment about what a crazy month it must be for me or about my flight. So I wouldn't worry about having to navigate that question!

Okay, this may be the third time I am asking in the past week, buuut has anyone been offered an interview and WVU - Morgantown. I would imagine interviews have been sent out, but no evidence of such on here and I know plenty of rejections have been sent out. And I've received no email response from the training director.. Hmmmmm😕

I just reviewed the APPIC policies online (http://appic.org/Portals/0/downloads/APPIC_Match_Policies_2012_Final.pdf) and they didn't include this information. Maybe your program is being extra cautious about any inference that they are asking questions about rankings. It certainly would be nice to be able to tell a program that the question is off-limits, but the APPIC policies don't preclude them from asking.

This is exactly why they have no business asking where you applied. It's none of their business. They may just be trying to see how diverse your sites are. In other words, are you really interested in their type of site? Also, it would be wrong if they used the number of interviews you received as a means to evaluate how strong of an applicant you are.

I agree. They obviously thought you were a strong enough applicant to invite you! At that point it should be more about whether you (as a person and clinician) are a good fit with their program, not whether you are in high demand elsewhere

I agree with these points and would also like to add something discussed before. Think carefully about sites that you feel are using interview tactics that make you feel uncomfortable. Do you really want to match at a site like that? Remember that you have something valuable to offer the sites you interview at too.

I think... Sometime on November... Just after I heard that Creedmore and Bronx Psych closed their programs, cause I applied to both...

Pretty close to their deadline, I believe.

also, i know people have asked for tips on how to drive in the snow/cold weather, but im wondering if anybody has tips on what to do when there is thick fog?? i have an interview in bakersfield (kern county mental health) and there is supposed to be very thick fog there in the winter months. im kind of worried about the drive there...

Don't use high beams. That's all I know about fog. 😛

I got my rejection from them on time last week but had to email 2 other VAs because I hadn't heard from them by their interview notification date. One emailed back the next day (rejection). A few days later, one of these VAs emailed me a personal response to my email (rejection) and, a day later, a mass notification/rejection to applicants. I bet they got a lot of inquiries. It was my first double rejection.

Hehe, one of my interviews is in Denver. I think most of the places I'm interviewing are pretty urban (Denver and Quincy, MA) although I think Provo, Utah is more rural. Maybe I'll decide how comfortable I am driving when I get there. I gave myself an extra day just to settle in.

SSMH (assuming there's just the one site in Quincy) is definitely in an urban driving setting, just a couple minutes off a major highway. Massachusetts drivers are notorious in the region for aggressive driving and the lane changes right around there can be tricky, so a cab might be easiest/cheapest for that one.

FINALLY got notified that I have been invited for an interview. YAY! They didn't give any dates, but said that we'd be notified by two interviewers for two interviews. Unfortunately there are still two more sites that I am waiting on that have late notification dates. But at least I got this one of that list!

It seems like most of my interviews were locked down within a day or so, but one of my sites asked me two weeks ago to send them 3 dates, and I'm still waiting for them to choose one. I've followed up, and they've been super nice about letting me know that they're still in the process of scheduling everyone. But in the meantime, I still don't know when I'm interviewing, and plane tickets are only getting more expensive. They're my first choice, so I really don't want to tick them off by bugging them too much or being too aggressive.

In-person interviews are being offered Jan 11, 12, 18, and a couple other days, I can't remember, those are just the days that worked for me 🙂

Most replied to me within a week. One site took almost 3 and I had to email the admin to ask for a confirmation before I booked my flights. I had replied by phone to an email invite, and this took place mid-November so very early in the process. After a while I began to wonder if I had dreamed the invitation since I had no proof via email!

Got a phone call from the Guidance Center today saying that they emailed me last week offering me an interview. I never got this email (even checked my spam)! If you haven't heard from them yet I would try to contact them. The person I talked to said that they are having "lots of problems" with their email system.

Try emailing or calling the administrative assistant at the site (that person's name was in every email invite I received). I had asked a TD for the times of the interview and he never responded. I had to make flight arrangements for after it ended, so I emailed the AA and she replied within a couple of hours. 🙂

I got a rejection (email, mass, very friendly) from Children's Hospital Oakland, which was pretty disappointing. The first rejection of a site that I actually really thought I'd be a good match to. And it seemed that they interviewed a lot last year, but in the email they said they cut positions.

But I ended on a good note - Interview at Children's Institute via mass email. They only offered one date - 1/20. I hope I don't make my other site mad by switching my interview I originally planned for that day!
