2013-2014 SUNY Buffalo Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How do you know that?

"The Admissions Committee will evaluate your application anytime between now and March 31st. It is a random review process.
The "time factor" has no impact on our decision-making. Our last interview day of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2014. We do not fill our entire class until after that date."

- From the complete email I received in August.

Yes please!

Aight, I'm just going to make the group, (will be called UB School of Medicine -Class of 2018) but fb won't let me make a group without at least one more person? Someone PM me then I'll finish making the group!!! Let's go true blue!

Regardless, it's highly likely that they are still handing out II since they haven't even looked at all their applications. Maybe those II will be for the waitlist, but having interview spots into late April suggests that II will be extended at least until early-mid March.

they made it very clear that you are never interviewing for waitlist, so if you interview next month or the following there will be seats available. good luck guys!

Have any accepted students heard anything since sending in a deposit? I'd love to find out about financial aid, when classes start, computing requirements, etc, but I know I might be a little over eager.

I called Mr. Rosso and he said a packet and an email containing all the information on financial aid, immunization (said not to worry about the previous year's form), orientation, and housing will be sent in April after the interview cycle is done.

I spoke with Dr. Rosso today (what a pleasant dude, I appreciate his demeanor), they grant you an II or reject you as soon as they get to your application, no "putting it back in the pile." If you haven't heard anything, they haven't gotten to your application. I guess that's nice to know, especially with no acceptances or IIs on the horizon.

I really, really want to believe this, but I have been complete since August. They stopped receiving apps in January. How could they have not gotten to me yet?

I'm still under review so I hope they don't show me the door.

This is probably true. The real question is do they actually notify you as soon as they've read your application. If they do notifications in batches, that would be enough to cause somewhat of a wait. Don't know about @CanePreMed though. That length of time makes me think it really is random.

That does make sense.. ;_;

Okay so this is really embarrassing, but I thought this thread was the pharmacy school thread.. oops.
Med School is a whole different level, good luck to you all!

Haha, no wonder I found it weird that you interviewed on Friday. Congrats on accomplishment nonetheless gl

haha thanks, interesting timing

I would agree, lol. When I called some weeks ago, I was just told something to the effect of, "We are still waiting for the committee to decide on your file."

This wording isn't exact, but I definitely wasn't told anything about random review. Either way, I didn't receive an II soon after I called, lol.

Knock em dead! I hope it goes well for you!!

Are they not going to tier that wait list this year or are they waiting till interviews are over?

Not too sure... I hope they do just so we can have some idea of where we're at.

I don't know if not having a tier list is a good or bad sign.

is there a facebook group for this incoming class? I am an incoming student (female) for the dental school and looking for roommate.

Yepp, search "ub school of medicine class of 2018" on fb or I think the link was fb /groups/ubmed2018

I heard that those who get interviewed here are either rejected post interview or get placed on their wait list. How come people are getting accepted after their interview without getting placed on the wait list. Congrats to all those SDNers for getting accepted at Buffalo.

Idk who gave you that info, but you can be accepted, waitlist or non accept (rejected). Ppl who are rejected or waitlist are less likely to post.

So then how is the process of random review fair for everyone, if those that get interviewed late are competing for less seats?

. I hear you, um not sure what they do to combat that. There are seats though so it's not like the class is full. But can be a pain

When is anything in life "fair"? If you don't like it email Dr. Severin at [email protected] the associate dean of admissions. But he'll tell you what I'm about to tell you, this has been their process for years and if you don't like it, apply somewhere else. UB won't change their policy just for you.

It's not just for me, it's for a lot of those people who have submitted early in the cycle and are interviewing late.

Dr. Severin assured us that no matter what time you interview n the cycle, your chances of bring accepted are the same. That's the point of the random review process. They can still accept people and have plenty of spots open for later.
