I got the background check email today as well. IS and I interviewed on Jan 2nd. I also got waitlisted at another school today so I have no idea if the background check request really means anything.

I interviewed the same day as you and haven't heard anything. I'm really scared it's a rejection at this point. I don't know why it's taking so long. This is my first choice too.
I'm in the same boat. Interviewed 12/11. Haven't heard a peep. I know one person who interviewed the same day has received and acceptance... But after getting waitlisted at my top choice, I'm feeling very pessimistic..
Does anyone know if the Certiphi email only goes out at the beginning of the week. Has anyone received an acceptance without getting this email first at this point?

I got a bunch of acceptances without getting that email back in October
I noticed that too, but I wonder if the protocol has changed, since it seems that everyone who's gotten an acceptance in the past month received the email first... Then again, not sure how much weight these conclusions carry considering the limited sample size haha.
I think that's because they order background checks starting January.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, sorry if it has. I was reading older posts from last year for this but does downstate have 2 separate lists (alternate list/Hold for Spring) this year as they have in the past? I haven't seen any posts for alternate lists this year. So does that mean us Hold for Spring'ers have a greater chance than 1%

I think I read that one person was rejected by snail mail earlier on.
Got my background check email today. Really praying it is good news. I interviewed at two other schools but it was these past two weeks so I'm thinking it's downstate. Waitlisted people don't get the background check email right?
I don't think they have officially waitlisted anyone yet, just the "hold until spring" thing so the only reason for a background check would be for an acceptance!! Congrats!!
I just got it this morning, but I'm a bit worried because I got waitlisted at another school earlier this week.. YIKES. For Downstate, Waitlisted people don't get the background check email! Here's to hoping both of us get good news soon 🙂
This is not a problem. Only occured because LICH has to be closed and on Downstates residency program contract, LICH was one of the hospital listed, so since it closed Downstate was put on probation until it could be reviewed. No one is worried about this. The medical school matriculates are very strong with step 1 scores increasing every year
Did the interviewer actually check it infront of you? The thing is, GPA and MCAT are much less significant once you get that interview. The decision is mainly based on interview..
Yup, he went through and filled it all out in front of me, including the other components such as "anxiety level" and "communication ability". Who knows, all I know is this school really wowed me with their clinical experience. I now understand why people say that students at downstate come into their residency with great clinical skills. Maybe my response to the picture we had to write about was that horrible lol. I'll be hoping for good news come spring!!
thats really odd.... im assuming you have no red flag. my guess you will be accepted later on.. maybe you can call them and demand an answer.

Haha I appreciate the support! Initially I was surprised considering how well I thought the interview went. Interestingly, he even mentioned the "red flag" part of a person's application and said that I had none on mine. Still, I'm just going to wait patiently as I am in no way in a position to demand anything from their office lol. They have their reasons for my decision and I respect that. I just hope that eventually I can convince them that I would be a great candidate for their school
idk if its your top choice or not, since you have great stats. but if it is i recommend sending admissions an email with Letter of intent with your stats/interview info

Acceptance letter via snail mail 2/21! Was complete on 9/25, interviewed on 1/2 and got the background check email on 2/18.

Nothing. Kind of a strange thing to get that letter and then have them decide...unless late Feb is spring?! Good luck all!

Just got an interview invite today! It is on March 26th. 🙂
Was put on hold post-interview two weeks ago via email but came back to my apartment today and found an acceptance envelope in my mailbox!
They scheduled me for March 26th.
I just received my FA Award Letter in the mail solely based on my FAFSA. It was all loans.
No grants or scholarships, but the letter mentioned that the scholarship application deadline is March 1st. My friend also mentioned that Downstate requires the "Need Access" application, which I haven't filled out.
I haven't taken a look at Downstate's FA process yet, but can anyway speak to whether this is the final award letter that I'll receive, or will they notify me of grants or scholarship later on?
I know that it's a state school so I'm not hoping for much, but was just wondering if I can expect another award letter later on.
