2013 applicant roll call

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My final list:

Florida (IS)
Minnesota
Kansas
Iowa
Colorado (a girl can dream, right??)
Illinois
Mississippi
Purdue

That's eight. 🙂

First time application for me.

Minnesota (IS)
Iowa State
Kansas State
Colorado State
Mississippi State

The way its looking everyone applies to colorado!

My final list has been way cut down:

CSU (IS)
Kansas
Minnesota
Mississippi

My list is very short:
UC Davis (IS)

(deferred at Penn from last year's cycle)

I think UPenn is one of the few (if not the only?) schools who are pretty flexible about allowing you to defer admission. I've heard that some people have actually deferred admission to Penn solely to live in PA for a year and gain in-state residency status, even. Most schools aren't like this, and will only allow it in really extreme cases, I think, or don't allow it at all. pupsforseeing got into UCD this year too, but they wouldn't allow her to defer, while UPenn would. That's why she's going through this whole process again. 😛

Final list for me...7:

UGA (contract)
Oklahoma (contract)
VMRCVM
Kansas
Iowa
Wisconsin
Missouri

Uhmm, 7 schools, 7th application.....hope this is my lucky number!

Aww, I thought you were gonna come join me at NC? 🙁

OH! I totally wanted too and I am majorly bummed! My second vet LOR (which I asked to do an eval back in MARCH!) has flaked out and therefore I didnt meet NCSU's requirements. I even waited until just a few minutes ago to see if she would send it in. I didnt want to waste the ap fee only to be rejected bc I didnt have a second vet LOR.
Whatever! Im so done. I submitted at 11am today after completely rewritting my PS in 4hrs last night. I usually would never attempt that but I had several people look at last years PS and they all said it was okay but kind of Blasé. So if figured even if adcom liked it last year, it didnt get me an acceptance,so what did I have to loose. I guess well see. Personally I think the new one ROCKS! and Im totally happy with it. Sorry tastrophe, guess it just wasnt meant to be. 🙁

Good luck Everyone! 45 minutes and 6mths to go. Hooray

LVT2DVM

Well, I knew Illinois didn't make the cut, because of the GRE timeframe thing, but it would've been cool to have "My twin" go to school with me. 😀

I hope you get in to all 7 this time around.

My final list was:

Cornell
UPenn
Florida
Davis
Western
Tufts

and I have a different reason for choosing each. The one thing they all have in common, though, is that they don't require terminal surgeries in core classes. I started a list using that criterion and then whittled it down from there.

Time to do some supplemental apps! Good luck to everyone. :luck:

haha not likely but wouldnt it be cool....i would have no issue with having to make choices

:luck: back at 'cha. Illinois was another school I was genuinely interested in. I wish they'd rethink their GRE cutoff date. I can see if its the paper-version, but they get the computer scores in 2 weeks. August is just too early.

Final list:

CSU (IS)
Washington State
UC Davis
Tufts
VA-MD

It's very freeing knowing the deadline has come and gone and we're all still here...this summer has felt like Y2K all over again. Here's hopin the second time is the charm! Good luck to everyone.

I hope everyone is taking a break after the deadline madness. I came by a few months ago to ask for some advice on applying, and decided to go for it.

I applied to:

Cornell (IS)
Iowa State
Tufts
PEI

And now, the long wait :scared:

Okay updated list again!

This time I'm in for:

Davis (IS)
North Carolina
Florida
Kansas
Washington
Colorado

And I'm so glad most of the application process is done, I only have the supplemental from FL left to finish!

Yay Fairyblastt!! I thought you were going to apply last year w/me 🙂

Good luck to everyone - it's a long wait so try to keep yourselves busy with other things!

****Sheltergirl*****

Long time no see! (I know, my bad)

I'm doing a 2 yr master's right now, but I was so rooting for everyone last cycle, and I'm so glad you got in!

Hopefully come next year, I'll join you, and you can show me all around. 😍

Hey all -

Just happened to be procrastinating (every so slightly) and came across a Michigan State vet student's blog which mentioned a "huge" change in the admissions criteria for Michigan State that will be implemented this year. I didn't apply to Michigan, but I figured someone out there who did might want to know about the change (if they didn't already).

I have a cynical (surprise, surprise! :hardy:) theory as to why this is: more applicants=tougher standards. They have to weed us riff-raff out somehow!

Hi everyone, I'm new here! I am only applying to:
Minnesota (IS)
RVC London

Good luck!

Woah...

I have to go find a farm now, and see if cattle really do stand north-south while grazing.

Not to be picky (but Cougar fans would hunt you down), but it should be Washington State. Washington is what we call the University of Washington in Seattle.😀 and congrats on Ross!

First time applicant.

Here's my list....kinda long.

Tufts (IS)
Cornell
U Penn
Iowa State (interview 12/6)
Mississippi State (interview 2/17)
Purdue
Univ of Minnesota
Louisiana State
Michigan State
Kansas State
Oklahoma State

This is totally random, but I just felt like reminiscing for a second:

I lived in Stillwater OK till I was 11, and lived in the housing for students with families - my mom (single at the time) was getting her bachelors, so my 2 sisters and I were basically little unsupervised hellions using the OSU campus as our playground while my poor mom was studying. (It was so safe - and maybe still is- that my mom didn't worry). We used to "swim" in the library fountain and ride the escalator handrail at the student union, until my sister broke her foot on it. Whoops! We'd also steal goose eggs at the duck pond, then try to hatch them ourselves on heating pads (which always resulted in rotten eggs).

When I was 9, I found a baby bird that fell out of it's nest, so I just walked into the vet school and asked some random people if they would take care of it. They took it too! Wonder what happened to that bird.....

Anyhow, I didn't apply to OSU (because of some prereqs & bio gre🙁) but I think it's an awesome place.

My third time applying, third time better be the charm, because I have deferred a law school scholarship just because I know I should be a vet!! I wish they could see what I know!

My application list this year:
Upenn (IS)
UFL
Kansas
Purdue
Mississippi

Wow, I just realized I never posted in this thread and haven't properly introduced myself yet...

HI everyone! I'm Megan, and this year I have applied to:

Ohio State (interview 12/18)

Yup, that's it. 😳 I have my heart set on staying a Buckeye. I graduated with my B.S. in Zoology from OSU this past summer and am currently working on my MPH (Master's in Public Health), specializing in veterinary public health, at OSU. Love them Buckeyes! I am interested in public health (obviously) and conservation medicine. I would love to work in a zoo; I worked for six months in Disney World at Animal Kingdom in the vet department and fell in love with zoo medicine, but I know how crazy competetive it is! Hey, one can dream, right?

In the meantime, I am just trying to survive vicious biostatistics classes in this MPH program. My final is tomorrow, and you can tell how oh so motivated I am to study! :bang:
