2014-15 PM&R Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Have you guys already been getting several Prelim/TY interviews as well??
I have 4 prelim/TY interviews (5 if you count the one with the Missouri rehab invite), but that's only because I purposely applied to programs in reallllly small cities that probably don't get as many applicants.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone wanted to switch their Schwab interview date to 11/19/14? I am trying to avoid unnecessary travel and scheduling conflicts. I am able to attend a number of their dates.

Thank you!

It was a pleasure meeting you all at Jefferson today. I'll definitely be rooting for you.

I'm going to miss my connecting flight (weather) but I won't let that ruin an otherwise very good day.

Sorry you missed your connection, hope you made it back!

Life...thanks for the hard work. Sucks when you lose your work like that.

I was wondering if the Wisconsin rejection was from MCW or UWisc? Thanks.

Sorry you missed your connection, hope you made it back!

I made it. It's nice to have friends throughout the country...was able to catch up with a med school roommate and get a free nights stay.

Oh, so are you gonna apologize?

It's strange that bowelregimen would have gotten an invite from RIC two days before anyone else on SDN reported it (and all pretty much simultaneously this morning).

RIC invite today. UT southwestern in Dallas last week. Wait listed at UT San Antonio. Rejected from Thomas Jefferson.

I have 4 prelim/TY interviews (5 if you count the one with the Missouri rehab invite), but that's only because I purposely applied to programs in reallllly small cities that probably don't get as many applicants.

I have had several rejections from transitional year programs, but no invites yet.

Impressive work team! nothing from RIC for me but that is okay 🙂

Colormebadd I don't want to be rude but it seems pretty obvious that he was telling the truth and you do probably owe him an apology.

Girly...you know that you steaming with envy! 🙂

And yes...I am all for keeping things civil in here. There are over 400 applicants to PM&R. There are about 20-30 in this forum. We are the good guys/gals. This is a support group...no need to be competing in here (or on the trail for that matter).

Lolz... Take a chill pill my friend.

I wrote that post before I sent the PM to bowel regimen. I asked him politely about the RIC invite, and he gave me a great reason why he got that interview few days ahead of most other applicants. I told him I trust him. I didn't know I had to apologize to him for my previous comment, but if he is offended, then I am more than happy to do so... It was definitely my mistake on trusting YOU, so I don't really mind...lolz

There are several possibilities for applicants to receive their interviews before the 'official' first batch.
1) Home program: My home IM program gives out interviews to us 2-3 weeks before their first batch.
2) Away rotation: Some programs are known to send out interviews for people who rotated with them.
3) Weird coincidence: My home PM&R program goes through their reviewing process alphabetically. I know the PCs in my program very well, and one of them told me that they sent out like 5-10 invites in first day and the one who was in charge of sending out interviews had some kind of emergency, so they weren't able to send the interviews out for couple of days.
4) Who knows what other possibilities are out there????

You find it SO STRANGE for bowel regimen to get his interview couple of days earlier, but you STILL wouldn't trust him and admit the fact that he was legit, even after he got the interview dates correct RIGHT ON THE DOT? C'mon MAN.....

Let me tell ya my friend. Looking at your previous posts, all I see is negative comments without any contributions to this thread. I know people don't change, so I am not gonna say much.

Just apologize and move on...

Ha only mild jealousy! I would like to interview there sure but if it's not meant to be that's okay too! I have some great interviews myself and I'm having some serious scheduling issues. I've never even been to Chicago so I wouldn't know what I'm missing! Ignorance is bliss🙂

Ha only mild jealousy! I would like to interview there sure but if it's not meant to be that's okay too! I have some great interviews myself and I'm having some serious scheduling issues. I've never even been to Chicago so I wouldn't know what I'm missing! Ignorance is bliss🙂

If I got rejected from Marianjoy...I am pretty sure that my RIC rejection is in the mail. But who knows...I saw that someone on here got a TJ rejection and RIC interview. It is all so random. Perfect example of why to apply broadly. Different programs are looking for different types of applicants.

Don't think that way. I have gotten rejections from: U Washington, Baylor Dallas, Marianjoy, MCW, and Schwab; and I got an RIC invite today. It actually gives me a lot of hope in the whole selection process. Different places are looking for different things. Well, either that or they got me confused with someone else.

How many interviews max are you guys going to go on?

I strongly recommend signing up for a community IM PGY-1. IM is what you need for PM&R. You should get what you need at any community IM program. No need to get into Harvard.

I'm only applying to advanced programs, and I have already completed my internship. I have 10 PM&R interviews (considering that Baylor/UT is one interview). I plan on going on 8-10 interviews. I will likely cancel one of my current ones and cancel/decline as I get more along the way.

If you have endless time and money...you should go on as many as possible. Unfortunately, in the real world you need to find coverage and that is my issue.

Stanford invite!

And I've gotten interviews from about half of my TY programs, and all of my IM/surgery prelim programs.

The list of places that I applied to that have given no offers to anyone here is dwindling. Only tufts and UC Irvine now I think. I do wish places would send out rejections if they weren't gonna interview us. Limbo land is annoying!

Wow wrote the above and just got Emory! Maybe I should just shut up and be patient.

Yeah, limbo is the worst. Makes getting an invite even seem less exciting. If Stanford weren't my top choice, I'd probably not have been so happy.

There are currently six programs that have not sent out Invitations: Tufts, UC Irvine, Marianjoy, UT Austin, Toledo, and Michigan State. Marianjoy has only sent out rejections to my knowledge. My thread has been updated.

I just cancelled two where programs I liked better only had those dates available. I think I'm aiming to go on like 15 PM&R max? I have one week with 4 scheduled...I'm sure the burnout is gonna kick in hard by Thanksgiving for me.

Wow what a**holes.

That's one way of looking at it. I kind of appreciate the rejection letter. If every program sent out rejection letters early it would make my life significantly easier.

It is interesting though. Apparently many people don't meet minimum Marianjoy standards and get invites to RIC, Baylor, etc.

Hopkins also...but they dont send out invites until November

You better start praying for cooperative weather.

Seriously. It's Nov 17-21 so I'm hoping no blizzards yet. I' m gonna be flying everyday... In a way it's almost better than coming all the way home just to fly out again though but I'm sure I'll be pretty glossy eyed by the end of the week.

Just got a "we're reviewing your application" message from USF.... I am surprised considering that I applied to every single program in the country how few responses I have gotten. I have heard something back from like 25% of all of the programs.

You really may need to buy the more expensive refundable tickets. Best of luck with that. I actually was going to go on a interview to Kansas today and it was a blessing that that date was filled because it it wasn't I would have missed my interview due to weather from Philly. I am really doing my best to separate them a week apart.

I haven't updated for a while... For those keeping track of the numbers, here's what I've gotten recently:
Invites from NYU, Columbia/Cornell, RIC, Baylor Alliance. Rejections from UW and Jefferson.

Yeah I hear ya. Definitely not my ideal but I have some black out dates for things I can't move so I"m trying to make it work in the time I have.

Or...Maybe... Marianjoy thought that those peeps were over-qualified for them. Years of experience taught them that those people with certain qualifications never came to rank them high enough. I don't know.. just guessing.

I remember what one of my med school deans told me. He said after the initial screen, he felt like he can throw all the applications outside and give out interviews to whoever hit the ground first and still come up with the same qualified group vs. him spending hours and hours to differentiate people who he felt like was already well qualified....

Ah... this process is just so random.. and stressful.. Days I get interviews, I am so so happy. Days I don't get one, I get so anxious. My SO officially diagnosed me with the bipolar disorder this week. Sigh... lolz.... Sigh....

That's an interesting prospective. I doubt its true for me...but I can see it being true for a handful of folks. Programs talk...especially programs from the same town. If a candidate gets an invite from RIC and Schwab, I could see how Marianjoy and/or Loyola would not waste their time with that candidate unless they either rotated through or were from the area. Not to mention that many programs discriminate based on USMLE and/or region. California is notorious for only taking Californians. I don't know if that is true for PM&R but it is absolutely true for undergrad and med school. I didn't take the USMLE and there really is no telling how many programs will automatically scratch me off their list for that reason alone. Chances are that most schools decline interviews either because they fill or because applicants don't meet their inclusion criteria. That criteria likely differs significantly from program to program.

BTW...I would have diagnosed you with Adjustment disorder with mixed emotional features. Hold the Lithium (for now at least). 🙂

I think you are right... I was just guessing lolz..

My SO is an engineer, and she looked it up on THE 'wikipedia' herself. So, I am sorry, but I think your diagnosis doesn't really mean much here... LOLZ :smack:
