2014-15 PM&R Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
DEC 3. You?

BTW...I see that you got a Michigan State invite. Did you apply DO or MD? I have seen anyone else with an invite from that program. Also, when did they send you the invite so that I could update the other thread. Thanks

The only date I can do is December 1st. Let's hope they still have that one available. By the way, I got Rehab Institute of Michigan and Wayne State, not MSU. Sorry about the confusion.

Anyone heard anything about Spaulding yet? or RIC?

Anyone heard anything about Spaulding yet? or RIC?

Spaulding has alledgedly handed out interviews (albeit not to me). Nothing from RIC. RIC has sent them out on October 18 the past two years.

INTERVIEWS: Categorical- LSU (7), Wayne State (3), Cincinnati (1), Albany (6), Rochester (6), Loma Linda (2), Vanderbilt (2), UTSA (3), Kentucky (1)

Advanced- Sinai Balt (3), VCU (2), North Shore (5), Temple/Moss (8), Detroit (2), Thomas Jefferson (7), Nassau (3), Indiana (1), UAB (2), Schwab (4), Spaulding (1), Baylor Alliance (2), Carolinas (3), Penn State (2), Wisconsin (1), Baylor Dallas (2), VA-GLA (3), Mount Sinai (1), Kansas (2), JFK (1), Einstein (1), UTSW Dallas (1), Emory (2), Kessler (2), Stony Brook (1), Louisville (2), Upstate (2), Medstar/NRH (2), Miami (1), UMich (1?), NYU (4)

Hey Life316,

Thank you so much for the follow up.

I think it is 3 NYU and 1 RIM/Wayne State, not UMich. Correct me if I am wrong. Again, thank you so much for your work.

Can we stop it with the updated list of how many SDNers got interviews at a certain place? I think the (albeit) long list of all programs, when interviews were first reported as offered and any dates is much more helpful for people. K thanks.

Oh, I didn't know what Rehab Institute of Michigan meant. I also sometimes count other people not on SDN.

You're right, the interview dates is very useful. We can keep both lists running. This list is mainly to get an idea how many invites a program might have given out or has left.

All of those places have given out dozens of interviews, whether SDNers report them or not. Unless someone posts that rejections have been starting to go out -- or, in the case of Schwab, that all interviews are gone -- the list is essentially useless. If you feel compelled to do that list, just combine it with the long one.

Well... Not necessarily. I think it is helpful in some ways. For example, though it is a very small sample, you can guestimate on which programs sent out large volume of first invites and which ones are sending them in waves. Come on, it is not that long and life316 is taking his/her time to do it for us. If you think it is useless, you can ignore it by 'scrolling down.' K Thanks.

I like both lists. Keep doing your thing bro.

Sup all,

Never posted on SDN before but I come here occasionally for info. I thought I might try to contribute to the group interview data and ask a few questions. I've been blessed with quite a few interviews so far but am really hoping for a few programs that I haven't heard from yet.

Hi I am new to this thread and am a DO student also applying for PM & R. I have received invites from Schwab, Rush, Mt. Sinai NYC, UT San Antonio, and Miami. I haven't had any rejections as of yet.

I was wondering if anyone has an interview at Schwab on the 16th of January that would be willing to switch with my slot on the 21st of January. I want to bridge the gap between Schwab and Rush so I don't have to buy two flights to Chicago. Thank you and good luck to everyone!

Welcome! To the other new person as well 🙂

I applied to all of these except Utah and have not heard anything at all. Nobody has posted about any news.

Couple people asking about Spaulding, I did get an invite from them last week which I posted, they send out the dates in a survey monkey and I didn't write them down and there's no way to get back in once you submitted... so I don't have the dates. Sorry about that! I want to say there were about seven or eight dates from early November into mid December. I have no idea how many invites they have sent out or if they do it in waves, last year it looked like they did it and waves. Jpac wrote that they were done sending invites or something but I don't know if that's true, you guys are the only people that I "know" going into PM&R so I don't have much of a cross referencing ability.

And I like both running tallies, you are doing a great job! I obviously am too lazy to post even my interview dates but you are great! just skip over it if you don't like it 🙂

I think you miss understood me...or I miscommunicated. The only three programs which are officially done are Schwab, LSU, and UWash (assuming you aren't wait-listed). I know that Spaulding has sent out invites but I don't know anything more about that program.

Ok I misunderstood what you said, sorry about that! My instinct tells me they are not done because not many people have heard.

I think that you are right...but who knows. We have, what, 20 or so SDN members who comment on this thread. Many programs get over 400 applications. And not everyone applies to every program. So, would be surprised if SDN consists of more than 5% of the PM&R applicants this cycle. Not quite statistically significant. 🙂 But I still think that it gives us a vague idea of which programs are actively involved in the process. It is much easier to see which programs have started vs which ones have ended.

Not to take away from the interview tracking, but just a quick question: does scheduling a january interview when given the possibility look bad when there are november and december dates available? I already have 5 interviews in november and i was trying to avoid skipping too many days in the first half of december. Thanks!

This is funny because I read your reply earlier about Kessler and I was really confused but you must've accidentally replied when you meant to reply to something else, I was like wow Jpac really hates Newark ha nbd I do that kind of stuff all the time.

Yeah I think we have enough of a vague idea for trends at least.

I don't know how most rehab programs work, I know from rotating in January that some programs start meeting to talk about applicants early January so maybe the late January dates are kind of an afterthought, some places at least. I think the programs you are really serious about that have earlier options you should schedule earlier, that's what I'm doing at least. The ones that I'm not as crazy about or have no other option I am scheduling in January. I think everyone gets pretty tuckered out by January to be honest.

Hi there,

Long-time lurker and a little paranoid about posting, but this thread has been immensely helpful and I'd like to pay it forward.

No rejections. Interviews at:
UCLA
Loma Linda
Schwab
Rush
Spaulding
Mayo
Rutgers
NYU
Case
Ohio State
University of Cincinnati
Temple
Jefferson
UT Southwestern
UT Health Science Center San Antonio
UVA
University of Washington
Medical College of Wisconsin

Has anyone got any interviews or rejections from Stanford, UC davis, UC irvine, Univ Utah, or Univ Colorado?

I applied to all of those except for Utah and have not heard back.

Just kidding. You must be an awesome candidate. I also applied to all of those places, have interviews from 2 and 2 rejections.

LOL. yeah...sorry about that. Not a fan of Newark, and for some reason I accidentally responded to your post.

But Kessler definitely is a great training site for the right person (either from that area or without children). I am from the south and can say the same for New Orleans. I would live in New Orleans with a family but only because I know the area very well.

Question of the day...

Is it "phys-EYE-a-try" or "phys-EE-a-try"?

Question of the day...

Is it "phys-EYE-a-try" or "phys-EE-a-try"?

I've heard that both can be used and are fine. I'm much more comfortable with the first. Maybe there is a regional component though? I would just go with what you are used to saying, otherwise you risk sounding awkward.

Technically it is Phy EE, I have checked this with a few people in the field who would know. Apparently they have a recording from one of the founders of the field where he coined the term. Practically no one says it that way so I'd go with either.... PM&R is always safe too 🙂

Wow who knew, I've never heard the ee variation. Good to know before I correct someone and make an ass out of myself!

No worries! Nobody likes New Jersey unless they're from there anyways 😉

Which I am not.

Would phys-ee-eye-a-trist fly? 🙂

It's shocking to me how a PM&R residency wouldn't consider strong DO candidates. In a field that cherishes treatment modalities...you would think that a strong DO candidate could be valuable. But hey...what do I know?

Thanks for the information. The number really doesn't matter so much to me. I know everyone is shooting for 10-12 because the probabilities are over 99% at that point. But I think that the study may be flawed. The type of applicant that is able to get that many interviews is likely a strong applicant to get in SOMEWHERE. And...I feel like I interview very strong. I run my own clinic and only have 8-10 coverage opportunities this match season. I am going to have to make the most of it.

As of right now I am at 7 (if you consider Baylor Alliance as one). I really only have one more easy coverage opportunity...then I am going to have to start doing some begging for a few more after that. I just feel blessed to be apart of the process. I have been out of med school going on four years. I have applied and interviewed at Walter Reed three times, only for Reed to rank me highly each time and the Navy not allow me to go. After years of being beaten down by the military match process it is flattering to get as many interviews that I have received.

Ah, sorry, I missed this before. I don't know, I could be wrong about CO, but PM&R is fairly popular at my school and it's just common knowledge around here that it's worthless to do a rotation there or apply. All it takes is one to change their minds, though. I hope you get an interview from them!

Nice fake out from Columbia Cornell, thanks for applying we'll call you if you get selected to interview.

J4pac - I had a dream last night that I met you on the interview trail, very strange dream actually but you were there!

Just got actual Columbia Cornell invite! It's by phone call.
