If this is Albany MC - no nothin so far.

I just cracked up at the vision of a bunch of applicants milling about nervously, waiting for the site's training director to start their presentation, when from the back of the room comes the special SDN birdcall - "ka-KAW ka-KAW!!"
 
ETA: Not on the list, so mass email invite 12/5 from Oregon Health & Science University, IDD track, interviews Jan 13 or 16.

To people who heard from Oregon yesterday (IDD), have you heard back from the secretary (Nicole) as to whether your date request has been approved? (If no, could you let me know when you do?)
 
Interview invite to UNC (I applied to behavioral med), personal email, today (12/6), no track specified in the email. Assigned Jan 22nd (my 2nd ranked date), but seemed flexible about changing date

Has anyone been rejected from a site and then shortly afterward invited to the same site for an interview? This just happened to me (although I would rather not name the site). I received a very clear rejection (no mention of wait-list or anything like that) and then 24 hours later received an invitation to interview, with no mention that they had just rejected me just the day before! I was so confused! At first I thought I should email them and clarify the situation, but then I decided that I would rather not take my chances and just accepted the interview date they offered me 🙂. Just wondering if this is a common experience?
 
Wondering how to respond to interviewers that ask if you have other interviews and where you are interviewing? This seems somewhat common according to the guides/books I've been reading. Not sure what to say. Thoughts?

My understanding is they're not supposed to be asking that.

This has not happened to me and I have never heard of it happening to anyone 😱

This happened to my colleague just yesterday. I'm wondering if it was the same site. The one I'm referring to was a UCC.

I'm feeling really good about it! :soexcited: It's one of my top sites in a city I would love to live in. It's not UCC, but interesting that it happened to someone else too. Strange times!

I don't have an answer to your question (have not received an invite or rejection) but I was wondering if the IDD Track invitation you are referring to specified the Special Health Care, ASD, or Neuro Assessment Track? It was my impression that the three tracks I mentioned before were the tracks and IDD was the parent category, if that makes sense. I applied to Special Health Care and ASD but have not heard anything... Thanks!

I am confused ;-( I also applied to Special Health Care Needs and Neuropsych Assessment tracks but thought invites went out for those so I wrote them off my list.

Same confusion here. Not sure if the invites were for all of the tracks combined or separate.

I received an invite to OHSU and had expressed interest in the Special Health Care Needs and Neuropsychology tracks. However, the invitation email did not specify which tracks we were being invited to interview for. Hope that helps.
 
Has anyone been e-mailing sites that did not notify by their published date to inquire about status? And if so, have they been responding?

I've received no word from Central Regional either. I applied to the Child track. But, their notification date is 12/15.

I applied to the adult track and haven't heard; but if you look at their brochure they outline all the steps each application goes through to notify, so I'm not particularly surprised it's taking so long considering how detailed it is!

I agree with @ClinicStudent. This happened to me a few times during grad school interviews (and it made me feel pretty uncomfortable), so I recently asked my DCT if it would happen on internship interviews. He said that internship sites probably should not be asking this, but if it does come up, he suggested responding along the lines of: "I am interviewing at several different places. I'm looking for the best match for my interests/training goals, and I think your site offers [a great fit in xyz area]." So, basically try to dodge and refocus the conversation 🙂
 
Rejection from The Catholic University of America on 12/6 via mass email.... I was already expecting it but was hoping for no news (good or bad) over the weekend!

When we're asked about cases (e.g. describe your most challenging case), do you think we need to give lots of background on the client (e.g. age, ethnicity, presenting problems, etc) or do you think it's enough to just jump right into describing the case and why it was challenging? I just wonder how long is an appropriate length of time to respond to each question? We could provide a whole case presentation that answers the question, or we could omit the basics and just respond directly, ya know? What do ya'll think?

My understanding is that we should give a very brief overview (e.g., age, presenting concern, diagnosis) and then go into why it was challenging. Start talking about the case, etc., and see where it goes. Don't forget that this is a conversation. We aren't reading a perfectly written up case formulation and we don't want to sound robotic. If interviewers want to know more, they will ask questions!

Most sites won't ask, as it IS a stress-inducing question; if they ask, it is because they are trying to gauge where they might stand in your rankings or angling to determine whether you are REALLY interested in them or they are a "safety". You can reveal facts about where you are applying if you want, but sites asking directly pushes the boundaries of asking about ranking information so I don't think happens all that often.

I did as well. Not quite sure what it means or how many of us are on the wait-list. It's a little unsettling if you ask me. But I guess it's better than a flat out rejection. Has anyone from the wait-list received an interview?
 
Does anyone know the average number (it know it varies) of people interviewed per slot? Do you think it would be ok to ask this during an interview as well (i.e., How many people are you interviewing for this position?).

Generally, it seems like most sites interview at least 9 or 10 people per position. It depends, though. Also, some of the sites that I interviewed at actually told me how many people per spot were being interviewed.

The place I am doing a prac interviews 14 people for the neuropsych track, though they also have 2 positions.

From my experience last year, and based on what others have said, it seems that about 8 – 12 applicants are interviewed per slot. At a couple of interviews last year, some of the TDs would say during the introduction when all of the applicants were present, "we are interviewing 9 people per slot" or however many it was. Usually it wouldn't come up. As far as asking the site, "how many people are you interviewing for this position" – I would probably avoid asking that, but that's just me. It's usually pretty easy to figure out how many people they are interviewing, by looking at how many they have interviewed in years past (which would be on their APPIC site profile), or by just guessing. For example, let's say a site you interview at has four interview days, and is interviewing for four slots. And let's say, the day you are there, there are 9 other applicants, then you could probably just assume that the site is interviewing about 10 people on each day. So 40 applicants, 4 slots = 10 applicants being interviewed per slot. I know these numbers seem high, it definitely freaked me out last year. Instead of focusing on how many people are being interviewed, focus on doing your best at the interview, so that you are ranked highly. 🙂 It is my impression that sites interview a high number of applicants because they do not want to go into Phase II.
