2014-2015 SUNY Downstate Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yep fellas, I too went from HFS to Alternate today. It's gonna be a splendid summer 2015. Gonna remember all of its' sunny days looking back as a doctor.

Question regarding the Alternate List Form, do we have to sign on the line if we want to stay on the list? The way it's indented seems to suggest we only sign if we want to withdraw... Or am I over thinking this? lol...
I was wondering the same thing!

Where do we send the alternate list response form?

The Admissions Checklist requires a username and password but I don't remember making a username&PW for SUNY Downstate. Does anyone know what this is??

I think in past years they sent it to you at some point, it'll probably be next week.

I was also placed on alternate list today.

I was on hfs but haven't gotten put on alternate list...

Placed on the Alternate List today... don't know what to make of the letter they sent but I guess more waiting, yayyy

Seems to me like the vast majority of HFS got placed on the alternate list. In any case, it's about time I withdrew. Good luck to those still playing the waiting game.

Got an acceptance today!! 🙂 So happy! Btw when I open the link to the checklist in order to pay my deposit, I can't view any checklist :S It says its activated only once the receive my AMCAS application which makes no sense. Did anyone else encounter anything similar?

I'm having trouble with the website as well- it's not allowing me to log in. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Hfs in February alternate list yesterday. What are the chances of coming off the alternate list?

Wow I still feel like I'm the only person who was put on hold and NOT the alternate list...

I got in off the alternate list. No idea what the actual rates are, but it happens! Hang in there, fill out all the annoying checklist items, and hope for the best. <3

I've been wondering the same thing. Where's @elprezidente when Ya really need em!? Haha

Hi friends, sorry that I've been MIA. We're coming up to exams in about 8 days over here, so I've been trying to stay off of SDN (keyword: "trying", and clearly just failed). My unsubstantiated theory, please take this with a grain of salt, is that the "hold" list essentially gets transferred over to the alternate list once the class is "refilled" after the deadline - although I cannot explain the anomalies for students that are currently on HFS that haven't received the Alternate email (@Emt2md23). This would mean that the class is currently filled, all those that were holding spots here, amongst other places, have made their choice, admissions filled the withdrawn spots from HFS, and those that are currently holding spots in the class are not holding any other MD acceptances at this point. That being said, movement will still occur in the case that applicant X gets accepted off of a waitlist at another school, which he/she would prefer to attend and withdraws from Downstate. Movement is likely to be slower at this point, and I'm not sure what the exact chances of being called off the alternate list are. Clearly, @Keladry came off of this list, and I'm sure there are others that did as well, so there is hope. I know of a few students that got called in June, and of one that got called just a few days before the start of orientation, so it does happen - I'm sure there were some in July as well, I just don't have any exact figures aside from word-of-mouth. I wish you all the best! Again, and as always, please message me if you have any more specific questions and I'll try to check in to answer them.

Hey, quick question. We don't have to fill out the visiting students health form correct? It wouldn't make sense to have my doctor fill that out.

So we are jumping through a bunch of hoops without a particularly great a shot; how painful for most of us. Do all schools do this? It does seem a bit cruel...

Accepted today via phone call!!!
I got a phone call too, but it was for the waiting list. I was put on HFS a while back and got the call today. The lady said congratulations, so I guess being on the alternate list is better than HFS? Very confused right now. Anyone get a call today for the waitlist?

I don't understand it at all. It seems that they should just say that unfortunately in order for you to stay on the waitlist they need all this info now because there is so little time to matriculation. I really don't get it. Do other schools do this?

Sounds like a pretty decent theory. Any theory on people that have not heard back at all? lmao. I called today and they stated that they could not give anything information over the phone and that I should be getting a notice by mail by the end of this week. They said that I would hear by mail in 2 weeks about a month ago. Is this an attempt to quiet me down for another week or the truth? I guess I will find out by Friday. I'll keep you guys in the loop.

Wait they called you about putting you on the alternate list? That's odd.. most of us received an email putting us on the alternate list last week. And she said "congratulations?" I don't know what to make of any of this.. It seems like we keep speculating about what everything means and what are chances are but it seems like none of us really have any idea what is going on.

It's on the webpage:

Alternates for the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine Entering Class of 2019!!!

Three exclamation marks.

Yeah, it was weird. She said that I'll get an email later today, so hopefully I'll get a response form and the checklist that you guys are all talking about.

on the alternate list webpage link in the email, on the top in BOLD letters (am i missing something?)

No one should be missing anything if they got the alternate list email. In the email there is an enclosed link to submit materials for preparation if accepted. That bold header is at the top of the page where you find the submission materials. It does seem extremely strange they would congratulate someone for an alternate list placement.

Hey guys, how did you submit the alternate list form?

Did you print it out, fill it in with pen, and then scan it as a pdf?

Did anyone receive confirmation that their alternate response form was received yet? Or got their log ins for the alternate checklist?

No confirmation here yet either. In regards to checklist log-in: called yesterday and was told it was the same as when applied. Though I didn't recall having a log-in, I proceeded to try all my usual usernames and passwords. They didn't work so I asked via email and they responded saying "Admissions checklist access will be sent by week's end.
Anything currently required of alternates is on the alternate list requirements page (link) that was sent to you already."
