It sure is. I didnt apply last year b/c I got a 19 (10/4/5) on the MCAT. Yeah, thats pretty embarrasing.
Just FYI, my major was Mech. Engineering, so you can pretty much see that in the score.

I am going to wait until June 3 since that is what is stated in the instructions as well as a confirmation email. They may ask those who submitted it on June 1 to re-submit it.
 
Well I just reapplied. I have a 3.3 science and overall with a 28 MCAT (10/8/10) I I applied last year to LECOM, OSU, MSU, PCOM-GA, Pikesville and AT-Still Arizona. I interviewed at PCOM and am currently on their wait-list.

With my limited success last cycle, I'm casting my net wider this time around and applying to 20 schools. For all of you underdogs out there I suggest you do the same and I would also like to stress the importance of applying early!

I'm doing similarly. My wallet hurts... But honestly at this point I'm attacking everything possible.

I just need to honestly pick and choose the timing for my secondaries. God knows I won't submit MUCOM's until the last of them. Being on a decentralized waitlist for an entire year is neither sexy nor pleasant.

AGREED! Fortunately, I got a fee waiver this year.. It didn't help a ton with the primary but I hear a lot of schools will waive their secondary fee if you have one. Good luck this cycle, I'm rooting for you!

I applied too late. I tried to apply early but I had to take the MCAT again (I made a 23 the first go round) and I had trouble actually getting my professors to send their LORs. So my file wasn't complete at any school until mid October.

I believe I'm an underdawg too, primarily because of my low MCAT score:

I graduated last year from Pitt. I have pretty decent honors, good research experience, and plenty extracurricular/leadership activities, with 75+ hrs of shadowing and 90 hrs (and currently counting) of volunteering.)



I was hoping if I can get some suggestions and opinions on my situation.
Originally I had my mindset on an MD program, but with the realization of my MCAT scores and the looking into other options, I think my best bet would be a DO program, with which I should point out that I'm absolutely just as happy.

I understand that my MCAT score is really halting my chances of acceptance, especially that verbal score. Though I think I must point out that English is my second language, but I'm not an urm.
I took my latest test in May (where I did increase 1 point in each section from the first time), but I don't think it's enough. I'm stuck and a bit overwhelmed on what to do next.

Perhaps, the general consensus would be to retake it again (for a third time).
But it would be my last try for this year (given I had to void once already this year).

So what should I do?

1. Can I go ahead and apply for DO schools with this 24?
2. Should I retake the test one more time?
And what would be the best approach (since I have only one more try this year).
3. Should I try both options at the same time? As in, should I apply right now, but retake and send my new test score latter on?
4. Or is there an option D?

I'm not necessarily picking on a particular school, and I really don't want to push back for another year/cycle and yet again waste another year. I haven't looked too much into schools, but I did look into a few. Since I'm from PA, my perfernce would be LECOM or PCOM, but I also like MUCOM, CUSOM, ACOM, and CCOM.

So yeah, that's that ... I brought up this problem in another thread, but was suggested I also post here.
So hopefully I can get a bit more help here too.

I think you may have a shot with a net that includes schools Lmu, kycom, LUCOM, VCOM, Lecom, and pnwu.

A 6 with ESOL is probably not that bad. But your other schools obviously aren't that amazing either. But I think you have a shot.

I don't think I'm alone in saying that you should get multiple interviews with that GPA and MCAT sore. There, you'll (maybe) be asked about your verbal score, and you can explain that you're not a native speaker. If I were in your position, I'd apply without retaking. Hell, you have an average MCAT for PCOM, and your grades are way above average.

For those of you who are taking a later MCAT (late july/august), are you going to submit your primaries now? I know you don't get verified without your MCAT score, so does it matter if you submit now or later?

Submit to get verified by one throwaway school and then when you get your mcat score add on the schools you want the primary sent to.

Yeah, I understand my gpa is pretty decent.
It's just that verbal score, which kills me.

Also, you mention that PCOM could be possible to get in, BUT .... I thought their average mcat was a 28?

And is this view from experience, or just a best guess?
Have you got in, or are applying right now?

I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to do ... apply as is, or retake .... but incase I retake, I probably should get this verification thing done.

Just added all my grades to AACOMAS cGPA 3.16/ sGPA 3.35 MCAT scheduled for August 7th, will be completing bio 2, and ochem 1&2 this upcoming year, currently finishing up my 150 shadowing hours, have about 400 hours volunteering in convalescent home. Any other advice on whether I should apply this cycle or not?

If you haven't had Bio 2 or any organic chemistry yet, the MCAT might be a little rough.

Sorry let me clarify - 10 MDs. No DOs because I thought I would at least get into my 3rd tier (relatively) state school because their averages are about my level (lower mcat by a lot, higher GPA by a little). But it may have to do with the fact that junior year was the year I messed up in, and last cycle I had a 3.3.

SO. Clarified, that was last year stats with this years GPA - lol I was tired when I posted I apologize!
