Nassau University Medical Center? I heard from them last week. I'm pretty sure they're sending invites in waves though.

How many interviews can a person realistically attend? Having the fortunate problem of not knowing when to say no, but I also don't want to fall ill or be burnt out by the end of interview season. I would greatly appreciate feedback from those who have been through the process. Also, I did not apply to only one geographic region

I think that will vary by individual. What some would be burnt out by others wouldn't. So if you're feeling like the amount you have will be overwhelming, you may want to decline your less desirable sites. If it feels like you can do it, then do it! Either way, it will just be a couple mad weeks and then you can rest.

Take this with a grain of salt because I only speak for myself, but I'm planning on going to all of mine (13). I think it will be rough, but I'm really interested in all of the sites and I think that I'll have a much better idea of which is the perfect fit when I interview (out of the only 3 interviews I have done so far, my initial rankings have already changed). Expensive and time-consuming, certainly, but I think it is worth it. Of course, if sites were truly back-ups and you aren't that interested in them, I think it is fine to turn them down. After 11 interviews, the match rate is at 99% anyhow. And, most folks match to one of their top 3! I just need a feel for the places before I know which truly are my top 3.

And I guess going along the same lines... How ridiculous/stupid would it be to not rank all of the sites you interview at? I have 9 interviews, but I definitely applied to 2 sites that I knew were "safety nets." However, after the interview, I was terrified of matching there...
 
Ooof - that is a tough one. Personally, if I thought the training wasn't good and it would potentially hurt my career long-term, I would not rank them because the con of potentially not matching would not be as daunting to me as the con of going to a really sub-par site. But I think that depends on you, life circumstances, career path, why you didn't like the site (e.g., bad/no training vs. not a perfect fit vs. too little pay vs. way too many hours vs. no accreditation....).
 
Depends on so much. Spacing of interviews, whether or not you can stack regions. In my cohort, I think we ranged from 6-15. I did not envy the individual with 15. I was bordering on too hectic with mine so I actually declined an open house invitation that would have thrown a huge wrench into my travel schedule.

I would agree with this statement. In reading about the ranking process, APPIC says not to rank sites you deem as "unacceptable" and that you would not to do internship at. With the safety net of Phase 2, I would feel comfortable electing not to rank a couple of sites that I did not want to do internship at.

I interviewed last year and went to 9 sites, and did one phone interview. Two of my sites were open houses, and the rest were in person interviews. I interviewed across the country and on a couple occasions went from one part of the country to the other to make an interview. I couldn't coordinate travel very well based on my offers, but I didn't find it too overwhelming. I will say--it probably depends on individual factors though. I enjoy travel and really liked getting to see the sites, and meeting with staff. Another thing to consider is whether or not to attend open houses. There are some sites where it is very obvious that attendance does not factor in, and others where it is less clear.
 
Has anyone still not heard from Rutgers CAPS or Cambridge Health Alliance? I'm debating contacting the programs, but only have contact info for the program directors, and would rather speak with a secretary. I'm assuming Rutgers is probably a reject since they sent out a mass invite yesterday.

I got an interview for Nicklaus yesterday and I applied to the Peds Health rotation.

I haven't heard from Rutgers CAPS yet either..but on the first page it looks like they sent out a mass invite email yesterday.

I am also waiting on Rutgers CAPS as is another person in my program. My guess is that we are rejected, since someone got an invite yesterday. Like you, I'm also not sure who to contact there and whether it's even worth it at this point. We will probably get a rejection e-mail by the end of the day today, sit tight.

Someone from my program got an invite to Cambridge Health Alliance last week, so I think their invites may also have gone out already. Sure would be nice if people notified by the recommended day.

That would be my guess too. Although I still have a little bit of hope left for all of us!

I called Rutgers CAPS this morning and spoke with a secretary who had a list of people who were invited and confirmed that my name is not on it. She said I should receive a confirmation of this via email within the next 2 days

I'm still waiting to hear back from them. I ran into someone at an interview for another site who said they had just interviewed at Kings County. I'm not sure if it was the child or adult track, but the date seemed to match up with the child interview.

I have to move my January 8th interview at OhioGuidestone. I can attend any other Friday in January (15, 22, 29). Can somebody switch interview days with me?

Interested in hearing thoughts from those who have already experienced an interview about driving to places that are (subjectively) nearby.

One of my sites is about 3.5 hours away from me and they have a short interview (2pm - 4pm) day, so I would likely leave around 9ish am to get there with plenty of time. But, I have to fly to my interview the day before and won't get in until about 11pm just the night before... would it make more sense to just connect from Interview A? In your experience, does driving take it out of you and/or is it easier or more overwhelming to fly?

Although I will be interviewing this year and haven't gotten to the crazy travel portion of the interview process, I would likely try to fly directly to the site the day before, especially given the likelihood of winter weather. In planning for my interviews, I made sure I wasn't traveling on my interview days, as I would be worried if I ran into delays, bad weather, travel jams, etc. I know myself well enough to know that I'll feel less anxious if I'm in the town the day/night before my interview. Personally, I would feel less overwhelmed flying the day before than driving up the day of. However, flying into the site may be more expensive than driving from your town, so that may be a factor that may be helpful to consider.

It really just depends on what you're comfortable with. I ranked a couple places that I was not feeling at all, but the thought of getting that "you did not match" email on Match Day was too much for me to handle (as well as the idea of writing new cover letters, submitting new apps, more potential travel, less geographic control, etc). I will say, however, that it really is true that there are many, many good sites in Phase II. I was shocked last year at what was available in Phase II, including super competitive and APA-accredited sites. With that said, there is no guarantee you'll match in Phase II. But if you're doubtful about what could really be left after the first round, I assure you there really are good sites! I will also throw out that I've heard quite frequently from interns who've said, "I really didn't want to be at this site, but I'm actually super thankful and having a great experience." So, in conclusion, you now have more round-about BS to toss around in your noggin! :smack:
 
Sorry if this was asked before-- this thread is getting long!

How frowned upon is it to e-mail the DCT and ask for a switch in interview dates, if the reason is because a flight schedule to get me to them from the last interview would be near impossible? Would they take this as me not liking their site as much?
 
UCSB accidentally sent the wrong email out to all applicants. Got an invite email and then 20 min later got an email reporting the error and saying I was rejected. Glad I checked my email after receiving both and read the rejection first!

Of the interviews I've had so far that required travel, I drove to one and flew to the other. They were a week apart so there wasn't the same issue with getting to them both in a shorter time frame. BUT, I will say, despite seeing posts/feedback in the past warning not to fly in on the day of the interview, I still did and it caused me to miss the interview. Even though the weather is warmer than usual right now, my plane had maintenance issues that caused me to miss all my connections. Thankfully the site was flexible and let me switch to a phone interview for what was going to be a brief interview. Though I realized I would be flying half the day for a 1.5 hour interview I was secretly happy this happened given the high flight cost! All of this to say, if you need to fly in, definitely go in the day before because even if there shouldn't be weather issues, other things can happen that cause you to be late or even miss your interview and they might not always be understanding!

I drove to an interview that was about 6 hours away, which inevitably took longer because of traffic and it can be taxing doing these commutes alone with day long interviews wedged in between. If you can avoid the stress of cutting it close, make the extra arrangements 🙂 good luck!

The first week, I have 5 in 5 days that stretch from Seattle to NYC and end in Pittsburgh.
The next week I have 4 in 5 days that go from Providence to LA. Gonna be fun? 🙂

Two of these will prob end up as phone interviews.

Has anyone heard from University of Kansas Medical Center recently? I know they sent out invitations on 11/10, but that was five days before their application deadline (I applied on 11/11). Their notification deadline isn't until 12/31, so there's still time. I am just curious about whether they've sent out another batch of invitations since 11/10. Thanks!

My colleague who was invited to 18 sites for an interview chose to accept to 13, one of which is a phone interview. Expenses + burnout + illness are real concerns. And, with that many sites, the odds are good that you'll match in one of your top sites. Plus, declining may clear up that spot for someone else ;-)

Did you apply to both tracks?

Good to know. I already figured it was a no-go, but had a sliver of hope because only December dates were reported for interviews.

I wonder why they have such a late notification date
