2015-2016 SUNY Downstate Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are we eligible to be accepted off the alternate list before we complete the BLS course and send the health forms, as long as we've sent in the alternate response form?

Im assuming anyone waiting for Downstate that has an acceptance at another school and hasn't heard back from downstate by traffic day are committing to the other schools? How exactly does that work?

You'll have to commit to one school and if you get into downstate after april 30th, i think we have to notify downstate and the other school within 48 hours of our acceptance or something like that (solid chance this is wrong, but i know we have to do it asap). Also we lose the deposit at the other school which is a bummer

You just go with it, hahaha. I'm watching all the cheap apts at my other school go, and hoping they are some left when I'm ready. By June, I'm leasing an apt

Traffic day is when you have to decide on one school when you've been accepted to multiple. You can definitely stay on wait lists for your top choices

I was accepted to 2 schools prior to traffic day last year, decided on 1 when I had to while remaining on downstates wait list. When I got into downstate they called me and said "hey do you wanna go here?" I said yes and they told me to drop my other school within 3 days. The other school also sent me an angry email saying to withdraw or tell them I accept as I can't hold 2 spots at that point and I withdrew immediately.

I'm not on downstates wait list. I just haven't heard back yet. So I was wondering how that affects me in terms of having to commit to a school I was accepted to and still having not heard front downstate

I interviewed March 1 and was put on the alternate list on April 15th. I guess my interviewer filled out his interview form early. Or maybe I am alphabetically first. Still it means you guys have a shot at acceptance still right?

Or there's an acceptance in the mail! They only email wait list/rejections. Hoping for good news!!!! Good luck everyone

Ahh, I really wish I could match your optimism. It seems that everyone so far who has been notified through e-mail has either been placed on the alternate list or gotten a preliminary acceptance. I think those who haven't heard anything may have bad news coming...hopefully I'm wrong though (...knock on wood).

How likely are people to get off the Alternate List?
Wondering the same thing. I know this is a bad way to think, but im feeling that the alternate list is just a nice rejection

Congrats to those who recently got accepted though!! I hope to see you in the fall!! 🙂

Denied today post-interview, disappointed but not entirely surprised. Best of luck to the rest of you.

Hey all. Anyone get a confirmation email about the alternate list, or are we assuming that those aren't gonna go out?

I got a confirmation email yesterday that they received my alternate list form--took them a week to respond so they're probably sending them out in batches?

Also got the email confirmation 4/22

Thursdays and, to a lesser extent, Fridays are when they announce decisions. Wednesday is ad com meeting day, so get your prayers, good vibes, happy feelings, and animal sacrifices in today and tomorrow. Or somehow project positive propaganda about yourself to all the ad com members before they meet.

But yeah, I am 70% sure there will always be radio silence until Thursday and Friday. No one will get off the alternate/HFS list on any other days. I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Does anyone know when orientation is?

Orientation will be from 8/1-8/4. If you are living on campus, move in will be sunday the 31st I believe. I'm sure you'll be receiving an email soon. The staff is busy with commencement, so orientation is unfortunately not the first thing on their radar right now.

Slightly different situation from most - I originally applied for MD/PhD (interviewed 12/14) and was rejected from that program on 3/4. I have heard nothing about MD only, and the MD/PhD rejection email didn't say anything about it either. I'm not sure what to think or do at this point. Contact admissions? Wait until after 5/2? Any opinions would be appreciated.
