2015-2016 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This thread has been the worst to follow with all the II's already- stupid quarter system and not being able to submit primary until after the quarter was over and grades were posted. With such early II's going out, guess I'll have to turn this one around same day (should be verified today/Monday)
There haven't been THAT many IIs yet

Ok, thanks! Is it better to list three things and describe them briefly, or list three things and go into depth on one of them. I have a somewhat unique hobby that I could describe in-depth. The hobby is fish keeping. I could talk about how it inspired my interest in biology, how I learned about ecosystems, species of fish and aquatic plants, etc. and that this is a hobby that has followed me throughout my life. I feel like it is more unique than piano and weight lifting, too.
I love aquariums too. I wrote about that in the hobbies section. I have a dirted tank now that's raging with plants! Also I am trying to breed some blue rams and to build a jelly fish tank. I have so many tanks spread out through my living room. I'm also part of the local aquarium society of my city😉. Cool to know that there are other fellow aquarists out there.
Amazingly enough, being into aquaria is a good fit for New Orleans. The Aquarium of the Americas is here and they throw a huge Scales and Ales fundraiser every year that I'm convinced 90% of the med school attends. The 2016 class president is a volunteer there and you can find him swimming around in the tanks sometimes.

Mentioning the aquarium during your interview, or that you did / will check it out on your interview trip is exactly the sort of local interest were are looking for in our candidates.

Thanks for letting me know. I just checked it out online, they have a lot cool stuff going on. It is totally the type of activity that I like to get involved. I am pretty serious about my "aquarium" endeavors. Now, one more reason for me to interview there, show me so love Tulane.

Is anyone still waiting for the LORs to be marked as received?

Yikes, complete 7/14, awaiting rejection lolol
Complete 7/12... I feel you brah. Even though it's really early in the cycle and only a few of my schools are already sending out invites I'm still worried that there's a red flag on my app I don't know about.

Hah completed 7/9, just send the no-go already.

Has anyone who completed their secondary later than July 13th received an II yet? I'm really hoping that they're going in order of submission. I would love to go to this school.

well complete on 7/9 and no II -- guess that spells reject

Looks like several people have today.

Has any international student received an II yet?

Look at last years thread there are people complete super early who got IIs after several months...don't lose hope yet! Plus they don't silent reject so without a rejection you're still in the running!

^ Same as above. Finally got that last green checkmark but no II as of yet. Heres hoping! Congrats to all you early II people!

All these IIs going out and I'm still waiting for all green check marks on my application status page :yeahright:

Still no green check, and I was completed 7/10. How many of you with IIs took the new MCAT?

I took the new MCAT in May. Secondary submitted 7/13. 'In progress' status, no green check mark at the bottom yet (four green checkmarks, then the red next to 'in progress')

On the portal it says I have everything in to the office, but I have not received a complete email yet. Submitted it a while back.

Sorry guys, I made a mistake. The status change I received was having a green check mark next to "In Progress". I think my application was already "In Progress" before but without the green check mark.

OK so looks like they're only evaluating old MCATs right now. That sucks.

I got the green checkmark today and took the new MCAT in April. But with my lack of an II I hope you are right about waiting on decisions for new MCAT people.

When did you submit?

In order to keep from going crazy, I've had to adapt a new motto: "If I'm not rejected yet, I still have a chance." I've seen people who submitted in summer getting interviews for Tulane in December, so I wouldn't give up hope just yet!

It looks like they sent a rather large wave of invites this morning.

My in progress section just turned to green from the red status with no subsequent II.

@Monophasic @Cawolf, I'm guessing we got put in an alternate pile for a possible chance later assuming they don't silently reject.

Congratulations to those of you who received IIs!

Thanks. So looks like mine is just being held up for another stupid reason. If my status doesn't change by Friday, I think I'll call.
I don't want to make you panic but I submitted 7/20 and my red went green today (no II though). I also took the April MCAT so maybe they are waiting for letters or something for your app?

I agree - that's alright! Good luck to everyone.

If that's the case, then it's a lot better than outright rejection! I submitted and was complete 7/11 and mine went green last week.

Wait do some schools actually do silent rejections? That seems like the most horrible way to handle rejections

That's ridiculous. If they know someone won't get in why not just go ahead and tell them. How hard is it to send a form email

Well, maybe they don't want to reject and regret. Like, say they reject you now and then come December you get a first author publication in Nature, they probably want to hold on to your app just in case.

My guess is a lot of schools will wait to see how their class profile looks before sending a hard rejection. Keeps them covered, although in most cases they won't need it. Kinda like insurance!

I know for a fact Duke does silent rejections, according to last year's thread

I'm just saying I find it hard to believe they don't receive at least a few applications that they are able to look at and say, nope, not getting in regardless of the class profile

I feel like a lot of times they will wait because they want to see which other applicants they've offered acceptances to will commit or decline and then they can re-evaluate others. Not certain on that but either way it's still torturous.
