Anyone else out there? IS applicant here, already completed secondary

Yep. OS applicant here. Got the secondary last Thursday but won't submit until later this week.

IS. Got the secondary yesterday, hoping to submit today or tomorrow.

Hate to bring up another school, but just got word that I am not getting an interview at U of M Duluth. Hoping to have better luck with my home town school!

Any interview invites here?

No interview invite yet here. I have not heard from anyone who has received one and I would assume that it will be quite a while before anyone hears back.

Just when I was starting to worry... II this afternoon! Definitely wasn't expecting to hear from UND this early

That's surprising since UND is known to have rolling admissions.

You mean non-rolling admissions.

UND has seemingly been in transition to rolling interview invites, but their interviews are still in the same several weeks in December/January, and the acceptances usually within the month following interviews. It's much different than other programs in that regard.

Best of luck, everyone.

Wow. Great to hear they are sending interview invites already. Sent my AMCAS last month and completed my secondary. I even emailed the administrative secretary just to make sure they received my application. My AMCAS was just approved this past Friday and sent to UND. I am so nervous!

Is it worth applying here if you are not IS, or Minnesota, Montana or Wyoming (i.e. other OOS).

also what hospital do med students clerk at?

Spector, I know UNDSOM makes it a requirement that the applicants have strong ties to the community (ie North Dakota), high school grads from here or parents who still live here get top priority. I don't know for sure if being out of state would absolutely disqualify you, you can ask the admissions department for clarifications if you wish. They helped me focus to get my focus and goals in line with the school's mission 😉

As far as I know, the majority of students are from ND, MN, or a WICHE state. However, they do accept a few OOS Native Americans into the INMED program. Clerkships/rotations in M3 and M4 can be done in Grand Forks, or at the campuses in Fargo, Bismarck, or Minot, but I am not certain which specific hospitals. There is also a program that allows students to do rotations in rural areas.

M1 here. If you don't have some tie to North Dakota/WICHE (primarily Wyoming/Montana)/Tribal Membership I would not apply. The university is loosening up its requirements on what a tie to ND is (there are a few students here whose only connection is that their parents went to UND for undergrad) but I haven't found anyone with no connection to any of the 3 listed primary ties.

Clerkship are spread throughout the state so it really depends - You pick 1 of 4 locations (Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, or Minot). New to the area/program so I couldn't tell you the hospitals.

This is more for 4th year electives, but this site should give you a bit of an idea about the hospitals: http://www.med.und.edu/medical-education/electives/

Still waiting for my interview invitation. Is anyone in the same boat as me? About what time would we know if we are invited or rejected?

II today! A lot of dates still available in case anyone is still wondering. I am relatively knowledgable and up to speed on UND's process, so if you have any questions about their interview decision process I may be of some assistance

Congratulations. How early did you complete your application?

Wednesday 9/16 (2 days ago) I submitted my secondary. I had my primary verified by July 1st, and had filled out my secondary and paid my fee, but discovered Wednesday that I had not clicked the submit on my secondary. Goofy situation, quick turn around (less than two days). Like I said, in state resident. If you haven't heard back, don't feel bad there are plenty of more spots to be offered 🙂

Thank you! I'm still patiently/excitedly/nervously waiting for any news. I hope it isn't the end of the road for me.
Do you recommend interviewing early in the interview process or later towards the end?
Thank you 🙂

If you don't have some tie to North Dakota/WICHE (primarily Wyoming/Montana)/Tribal Membership I would not apply.

You're forgetting a significant portion of the class, which is Minnesota residents. Especially true for those from NW Minnesota or attended university in ND or near ND.

Clerkship are spread throughout the state so it really depends - You pick 1 of 4 locations (Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, or Minot).

To avoid being disingenuous, "pick." There are limited spots at each location and the order in which you pick is based upon the number you pick out of a pile during M2.

The way I have heard interviews are given out is 1) an automatic interview based on a point system 2) the committee will meat after Nov 1 and decide on the rest of the interview candidates that did not meet the designated automatic interview score. So if you don't have an interview invite, I wouldn't be worried. They let everyone know about their decision (accepted, waitlisted, rejected) on the same day either in late Jan or early Feb.

I applied last year and didn't get an invite until Dec. and got waitlisted in Jan so I'm speaking from experience. Hope this helps!

North Dakota started to send rejection letters/emails already as of Tuesday, per the Rejection Thread. Yay!

When you were wait listed, did you ultimately get a slot for the following year? Or wait listed again or do you have to apply again?

I applied again for this cycle.

Did they started sending rejection yet? I completed my secondary in August and still haven't heard back from them. I am like, either send me an II or rejection notice! Tired of waiting! (IS student)

I would contact the admissions office and inquire potentially. How are your stats?

They give interviews on a point system. If you have a certain number of points, they give you an automatic interview (without the committe looking at your application). If you don't meet that minimum, the committee meets sometime after Nov 1 and gives out interviews then (because they are on a non-rolling basis)

Ok, here goes...November 2...first day of the "maybe" applications! Good luck everyone!

Do UND do pre-interview rejection? If they do, did they started doing that or not yet?

Yes they do pre-interview rejections.

Here are their numbers from last year:

Verified applicants/Interviews/matriculates

IS: 123/108/59
OOS: 1560/49/19

As you can see MOST of in state applicants recurve interviews, and close to half last year of in state applicants matriculated. Unfortunately for any out of state lurkers, the same can not be said.

Points are awarded on a scale basis for residency, GPA, and MCAT. Each are worth up to 100 points for a total of 300 points. I will post the scoring sheets. My MCAT score, GPA is circled, but considering I have posted it elsewhere on SDN I don't feel uncomfortable disclosing this info

Thank you for the information. Very helpful. Also, by any chance do you know if they already started sending pre-interview rejection to Instate folks. With the information you provided, I calculated my score and it is above 200 (close to 220), but I haven't heard anything back from them and I completed my secondary on August.

I am not sure about that. Sorry, I am not involved in the admissions process just an undergrad student who has been around it quite a bit

I believe interview invites have only been sent to those with enough points to receive an automatic interview. Even if you don't quite make the point cut off for an automatic interview, your chances of getting an interview as an in state resident are very high. I'm pretty sure that applicants below the point cut off are not reviewed until early November, so be patient, hopefully you hear back soon!

Thanks for the input. Eagerly waiting for one!

According to last year thread, it looks like people got some interview invitation around Nov 5th. Hope it is the same case this year.
