Dang I didn’t even know this was a possibility. I’m hoping I get this!IS partial tuition waiver received today! Seattle cohort.
You seem like the GOAT so I bet you will!Dang I didn’t even know this was a possibility. I’m hoping I get this!
Dang, big congrats. I’m hoping they are just working through finaid offers alphabetically or in order of fafsa complete date or something and this wasn’t the only day.All I can give is what I got from UW.
"Congratulations again on your acceptance to the University of Washington School of Medicine! We are very excited about having you as part of our medical school family.
You have also been selected from a competitive pool of highly qualified accepted applicants to receive a partial Washington Tuition Waiver for all 4 years of medical school!"
I can't speak to any hard details (don't know them yet), but I'm very grateful regardless. I'm not sure if there's one or many of these, full tuition vs partial, but in any event, keep an eye on your inboxes!
Congrats! Were you an instate student already or are you OOR and this brings your tuition down to instate levels? All I can give is what I got from UW.

I'm an instate resident!Congrats! Were you an instate student already or are you OOR and this brings your tuition down to instate levels?
Congratulations! I’m also OOR, accepted to Seattle. I got the call just before Christmas. If you don’t mind, can you tell me if you reached out to admissions or anyone about the waiver? If so, when did you contact them? I’m really hoping for a tuition reduction since its my top choice and I have all my family there. But the oos tuition is hard to swallow.I am an OOR applicant who was accepted to Seattle, so this waiver brings my tuition down to in-state levels.
I talked with a few current OOR students about how they were able to manage the OOR tuition, and they informed me about the waiver they received. Apparently it is not given to all OOR students, but they also mentioned that every accepted applicant is considered for one. Most of the students I talked with said they received the waiver in April, so I was very shocked to have received it now. That being said, there is still a lot of time remaining to receive one.
I did reach out to the FAO and to current students. This was during late December/early January, a few weeks after I got the A. FAO told me this:Congratulations! I’m also OOR, accepted to Seattle. I got the call just before Christmas. If you don’t mind, can you tell me if you reached out to admissions or anyone about the waiver? If so, when did you contact them? Congratulations! Do you have any idea how the tuition waiver works if you're already instate? Is it a percent of tuition waived?I'm an instate resident!
It was an actual dollar amount waived, which was about 50%!Congratulations! Do you have any idea how the tuition waiver works if you're already instate? Is it a percent of tuition waived?
so awesome! Congrats!!It was an actual dollar amount waived, which was about 50%!
Sorry to hear. Sounds like yield protection, still sucks.Rejection as an Idaho applicant. 524 MCAT 3.98 GPA. Guess my interview went more poorly than I thought.
rejected IS alum, got a II, no interview. 3.14 GPA from biochemistry (I only had one rough year under covid and cranked my GPA higher every quarter thru graduation) but a 510 MCAT and extremely heavy on the EC's (15 years as an EMT) and leadership involvement with a new UWmed program. Applied for the CARES program too since I have extensive roots and rural background.
I would have understood an R after an interview, but no interview at all did make me a bit salty. Oh well, WSU gave me the A this morning! Good luck everyone - and just an FYI if you're looking to be involved in something new to add to a residency resume, there's a brand new collegiate EMS 911 program on campus for volunteer student EMTs to respond to 911 calls on campus.
Idaho students, I implore you all to find a way to make yourselves heard on this house bill. I think that a big perspective that is missing with this bill is the student perspective. The UWSOM system give a great advantage to Idaho students when it comes to medical education. Students think very critically and prospectively about their future goals, I fear that if this bill passes it may make some Idaho students choose to attend schools elsewhere and less likely to return to Idaho to practice (one of the main goals of the WWAMI program).any other Idaho students scared with the news of House Bill 176🫠😵💫
I am likely not choosing WWAMI because of this bill, it was my top choice but I dont want to be caught up in this BS while trying to get through med school. I have extensively contacted all my representatives. It's a huge shame.Idaho students, I implore you all to find a way to make yourselves heard on this house bill. I would be surprised if many Idaho WWAMI students are in support of this bill (although I could be wrong).
I can't yet, I think this is normal. UW has to tell AMCAS to show it for folks and I think if you interviewed for Idaho cohort the decisions were so recent they haven't updated it yet. I think normal for other cohorts too.Any other A's not able to see the Plan to Enroll tool in AMCAS? Hoping it's not just me...
I don’t blame you, but I think it would be wise to reach out to admissions or other faculty to see what their perspective is. It could be that the program gets phased out (if the bill is passed) and current students finish out the program as planned whereas prospective students instead apply to university of Utah after the bill is passed.I am likely not choosing WWAMI because of this bill, it was my top choice but I dont want to be caught up in this BS while trying to get through med school. Absolutely, I hope to have a good chat with them first. I'm fortunate though to have several options so if there's even a chance any of this could fall back on the students, I'm hesitant....I don’t blame you, but I think it would be wise to reach out to admissions or other faculty to see what their perspective is. Curious what, if any, other reasoning you have for this decision. I am not sure how it's going to impact students directly? Especially with the knowledge that *our* class will get through all four years unscathed as the bill stands now.I am likely not choosing WWAMI because of this bill, it was my top choice but I dont want to be caught up in this BS while trying to get through med school. Idaho legislators are refusing to honor a ballot measure to expand Medicaid in the state despite people voting in favor of it. Not relevant to WWAMI, but shows that legislators in this state will do whatever they want. So they "say" this won't affect WWAMI. What's to stop some crazy set of legislators halfway through med school changing their minds and messing it up for those already in the program?Curious what, if any, other reasoning you have for this decision. Right it's the whole trust thing. They can (and have)changed things in the past.It seems like incoming students will still graduate from UW and Idaho will allow one more year after us for 2026-2027? Idk if I trust it though :/
The bill says: "Idaho students supported by Idaho state funds who are occupying slots reserved for Idaho students and who are enrolled in the WWAMI program for the incoming class of 2026-2027 academic year, and such Idaho students enrolled in prior WWAMI class years, may complete their full four year course of study and training with continued support from Idaho state funds" (PDFs:).
I saw this, but was hoping it wasn't true. Seems so much earlier than other schools T^T thanks!According to the portal, the first day of class for all sites is Thursday July 17 with a required Orientation before that
I will say that I recently met with the dean of the Idaho campus who mentioned pretty explicitly that this change, should it go through, will not affect this year's incoming class in any way. I agree that it is certainly concerning for subsequent classes, and who knows what the legislature will end up deciding, but I hope that we are all in the clear at least for this year.Idaho students, I implore you all to find a way to make yourselves heard on this house bill.
