2015-2016 University of Oklahoma Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This might be an odd/dumb/pre-emptive question, but I'm trying to figure out financials for the next year. Is there a ballpark idea of when student loans are disbursed from OU?

This semester they were released January 9th. I believe the fall semester tuition was due August 15th, so probably around August 8-9 as well.

The loan dispersal days coincide with when you start classes. I think both of mine have been dispersed about a week after the first day of class. The money is usually in my account no later than two weeks past the starting date.

That's great, thank you guys so much! Really looking forward to it all 😀

This years match list. Wanted to post a copy in case you were curious. It's been helpful to me to look through now that I'm about to apply for the match myself. They did a great job! (I removed the names for anonymity by the way)

Has anyone heard of any movement on the waitlist yet?

I'm too scared to call/email Dotty and ask! I haven't heard anything...

I think most wait list movement will start happening towards the end of April. That is the deadline and is after most second look days and such have taken place, giving people a chance to make decisions and withdraw acceptances.

So when are we actually enrolled in our classes? And does anyone know of a class schedule for the fall yet?

I just withdrew my OOS acceptance. Best of luck to yall!

Any updates on waitlist movement? It's been a quiet thread. It sucks to be waitlisted again but I think it's harder this time around because I hold acceptances and still have no idea where I am heading whereas last year my only hope rested on OU.

Here is the link regarding what OUHSC officially says about loan Disbursement dates https://www.ouhsc.edu/financialservices/bursar/StudentRefunds.asp

Keep in mind that when they refer to "first day of classes" this is the first day of class for OUHSC, not specifically for the medical school, which can be different.

I guess so. That's the terminology that Admissions used in the email that I got.

I guess they were talking about people they had accepted off the wait list?
I thought April 30th was the deadline for the getting refunds for multiple acceptances but that you had until the second week of May to hold seats at multiple schools? Am I wrong?

From the AAMC:

"If you receive an offer of acceptance from more than one school or program, choose the school at which you will enroll by April 30. Then, promptly withdraw your application, by written correspondence, from all other schools or programs that have offered you an acceptance.

Withdraw your application from consideration at all other schools or programs as soon as you enroll, or start an orientation program prior to enrollment, at a U.S. or Canadian school or program.

*If any date falls on a weekend/holiday the recommendation(s) will apply to the following business day."

Any current or previous students know and could provide some information on scholarships?
They had us fill out the scholarship application but did not see 1) what scholarships are available and 2) when decisions/notifications will be?

Gotta love taking on quarter million debt.

Yes, the scholarships are interesting... I'm guessing they sent you information about the Sooner Heritage Scholarship? This is the main scholarship program through the College of Medicine. Basically, you fill out a short application which goes towards various small scholarships associated with the school. I believe these can range from $500-12000ish. So you're not applying for a specific scholarship or amount, just a pool of scholarships. You can apply for this every year and usually your scholarship amount will change every year. For year 2-4, they notify you of your award in May. I can't remember for first year, but it will probably be some time in June or July. There will be a reward banquet for those receiving scholarships in the Fall where you can meet and thank your specific scholarship fund.

Throughout the year, and maybe even the summer, the Dean's office will send you various scholarships you can apply for too. These include the Tulsa County Medical Society,
Edward Brandt Scholarship, etc. These can be scholarships from other colleges on campus and around the state usually. They will all have their own specific application. Some info listed here: https://www.ouhsc.edu/financialservices/sfa/scholarships.asp

Does anyone know when they announce the final waitlist decisions and deactivate applicant files? It's July and although I have pretty much accepted that it is a "no" from here, I haven't heard a final decision yet.

From the reapplicant workshop they said that they would start trimming "around" late June and every week after that. I know a buddy of mine got cut from the waitlist last week of June a couple years ago. This second week of July is also prime trimming time from what I've seen on the other boards. If we (still on the waitlist too, Magenta!) don't hear news back this coming week that's probably a good sign, actually. Hope we both get in!

We had someone in our class who was accepted on August 10th so there is still a possibility.

I got in off the wait list for the SCM July 22nd. IS, 31 MCAT, 3.6 gpa. Best of luck to everyone still on the wait list!

Congrats! Do they let you choose between SCM and OKC when accepted off the waitlist?

I was told a seat was open for the Tulsa track and that I could accept that spot or remain on the waitlist for OKC. I also was accepted the same day.

Magenta,

I hope I read that correct, you finally got accepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Been following you on the board here with eager hopes you would get in.

PM me if you did get in and which track. I just got back from my first pseudo-class BLS for Health Care Providers (CPR basically) yesterday and met some others in our class.
