2015 Army Baylor DPT Application

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This might be a bit premature seeing as I'm an incoming freshman at UCSB, but can any of you who got into the program provide me with early advice?
Baylor-DPT has been my dream school for the past year, and I want to do as much as possible as early as possible to increase my chances of making it in.

1) Should I stick with my Biopsychology major, whose requirements correlate very well with Baylor pre-reqs (i.e. Physics, Chem, Bio, Physio), but also requires me to take O-Chem eventually? Or should I switch to an easier major like Psych and try to complete my individual pre-reqs on the side? I'm also planning to minor in Philosophy, as philosophy students tend to score higher than any other major on the Verbal portion of the GRE.

2) Will joining the ROTC program at UCSB be worth the extra time consumed? I definitely want to serve as a military-PT, but I don't want to take my focus away from academics if ROTC experience doesn't make a big difference for Baylor.

3) During what year should I start looking for and accumulating observation hours?

4) Anything else I can do to make myself stand out?

Thanks!

I would start getting hours now. Army-Baylor places a big emphasis on obtaining military PT observation hours and getting hours on a military post can be difficult to obtain so the sooner the better.

1. I encourage you to study what you are interested in rather than setting yourself up for graduate school.
2. ROTC is looked at closely by our faculty and each applicant is screened for their leadership potential. Applicants who do well in ROTC or who have a successful military career prior to application are viewed favorably. The program is required to grow officers and physical therapists. ROTC experience can help.

Recruiters can provide you with general information about becoming eligible to be an officer. Being physically fit and healthy and having a clean background record is a start as well as developing your rationale and motivation as to why you want to become a military-PT. You must be prepared to serve and deploy upon graduation.

We have posted all necessary information on our website as well as on our PTCAS directory page regarding the US Army Baylor DPT program.

Good luck.

Aloha guys,

Congratulations on all who have been accepted! I also got notification of my acceptance yesterday morning. The past classes have started a facebook group page and I am wondering if you all would like to do the same?

Scrawnyguy: I have been following your posts and you seem very ambitious, just as I was in regards to gaining acceptance to the Army-Baylor DPT program. I would love to have a telephonic conversation with you in regards to the details of the road I went through in order to gain acceptance.

Very Respectfully,
Patrick

I'm sorry, I just saw your offer to help me out. I wish I'd seen it sooner. Overall I think my application turned out pretty good and I selected for an interview earlier this month. I wish I could fast forward 3 months and get this waiting over with. How do you like the program thus far?

I recently had an interview and got an email that I am moving onto the board. The process is so different this year (I applied last year also). There are no medical specialist corps recruiters any more I guess, and I'm having trouble getting anything done with a healthcare recruiter. Has anyone else had any luck?

Same boat. On to the selection board but trouble with healthcare recruiter. Anyone know how many move to selection board?

I was told by my recruiter last week that it would be about 100.
