**2016-2017 URM Medical School Application Thread**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II at Jefferson! I didn't imagine that I would even get to this point, so I'm really excited!
Congrats!!!!!! When did you submit? And did you get an email?

I just need a safe place to vent real quick... My computer broke this morning. Lost everything I had been working on. And now have to throw down at least a grand for a new computer. I'm about *this* close to losing it, but just trying to put everything into perspective. I know this is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, but through all the stress of applications, I'm just thinking "WHY". 🙁

I sympathize with you. Have you submitted any of your apps yet? If so, try to copy some of those essays from the portals of each school, so at least you have something. Additonally, check with a computer fixing store to see if the hard drive can be salvaged. I pray you get a solution and get all your stuff back!

Damn I'm sorry to hear about the laptop. 🙁. But yeah try to stay positive and focus on the end goal. You aren't doing this for nothing, right? The stress is definately going to b there but just know that all this stuff you're going thru now is not for nothing. There's setbacks, sure but when you put that white coat on you'll be thinking damn, all this **** I went through to get here was well deserved

As proverbs 16:9 says " A mans heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps"

Do you have a google account? I've created a google doc where I have all of my secondary work. You'll never lose it that way! Everything is gonna be alright

Congrats!!!!!! When did you submit? And did you get an email?

Thank you. I submitted and was complete during 4th of July weekend. I got the automated II email yesterday close to midnight.

I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago and had to come up with $1300 for a new macbook. It was really the last thing I needed to happen to me when I'm spending hundreds on test prep materials. I was fortunate that due to my paranoia for these kind of disasters, that I back everything up semi-regularly on an external hard drive. That thing has saved my life a few times. I highly recommend it.

Its easy to get discouraged about something like this, but don't give up. You've made it to this point and I'm sure that you'll get past this. Situations like this are really how our character and perseverance are tested and built, so stay strong. We're always here for you if you need somewhere to vent.🙂

Thank you for all the kind words and support 🙂 Definitely invested in an external hard drive, and will from now on be using Google docs, thank you for that advice!! Thankfully I have sent out a bunch of secondaries, so I can pull from there, but lost a bunch that I had been working on :/

Can you share a little about your service activities, if possible? Also any leadership experiences?

How do we go though MSAR?

I have FAP so I have it for free, but I believe it is $25 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Google it then you buy access, although there is a free version that basically just gives you the bare minimum info.

Then you can go through the matriculation data, the avg stats, avg research experience, demographics of the class, and a bunch of info on each school which you then use to make an informed school list that matches your strengths.

Is that just for allopathic schools?

Thank God! I hope many more come your way! Are you all right? I hope you were not injured...

I'm fine. Thanks for your concern. My car was parked at the campus parking deck, and I get a call from campus police saying someone did a hit and run. Thank God someone called it in and they know who the guy is. I could be really pissed of about this, but in the grand scheme of things, this is just a minor setback.

I like that attitude. Take your good news and enjoy the rest of your day!

Do y'all ever get the feeling while applying that ADCOMs have seen it all before? Looking at all these stats and stories, you start seeing a lot of the same stories, ECs, GPAs, MCAT scores and that's just on SDN. I'm starting to feel like were not that "special"(for lack of a better word). Everyone is so qualified and everyone who gets accepted is even more so. To be honest, if you look at this logically, everyone in this thread has the potential to become great doctors. So what makes me worthy of an acceptance? Oh my god... I think waiting for my MCAT score is starting to drive me a little crazy l0l

That's why it's important to apply as early as possible, before adcoms get super tired of hearing the same things.

You're literally amazing

I wouldn't go that far, LOL. I'm just a testament of what can happen when you submit everything as early as possible. It really does make a difference. I had less than a day turnaround for 90% of my secondaries.

Can you remind me where else you got IIs? It seems even with submitting early you're ahead of the curve compared to others that submitted early! You're killing it.

I can't wait to start submitting to schools next month. I'm reading all the school specific threads like MCAT scores better be amazing

Wow! You must have submitted the first day, lol! I pray you get many more, with scholarship offers to boot! This is encouraging in the midst of all the anxiety...

Your scores will be amazing! Have faith and keep going! Prewrite those secondaries like it's your full-time job!

Won't be pre-writing until I take my test next Friday. But I get all of August for vacation so I have plenty of time to have them all done by the time my score is released.

I'm taking the scored tmw, then one more TPR on Tuesday. My unscored went well, converted 516-518 range, so hoping this last week of review and next week brings an increase!

I've gotten IIs from the following places:
Jefferson
School unnamed for anonymity
Duke
GW
Gtown

If your unscored went that well, I think you'll do great on the real thing. I got a 517-ish on the unscored and 514 on the scored, and I got a 517 on the real thing.
I would encourage you to start prewriting now (including some reach schools) so you can get faster turnaround on the processing of your secondaries. I started prewriting slowly in 2014 (I have a tendency to over-prepare for things). Even though there were 15 schools that I prewrote for and didn't end up applying to, I think it was time well spent. I reused some of them for other schools that I added later. Trust me, when you are flooded with 20 secondaries in a 2 week period, you'll thank yourself. Good luck on the MCAT studying!

I'm definitely pre-writing. I just can't start until I take my MCAT next Friday. That is my only priority right now. After that I will begin. I already have a diversity and adversity essay I wrote in the spring semester but I haven't gone through my school list to find each individual secondary prompt yet.

Thank so much. Hearing your practice and MCAT scores definitely help. I'm feeling confident going in, just want to kick this test's ass and get on with the cycle! Lol

Can you share your study techniques? You can DM me in possible!

Definitely are you in a rush, as in taking it soon? I post a lot in the July MCAT thread about all my techniques. I'm making a comprehensive one on Monday if you don't mind waiting. It helped me a lot to see others score progression over various materials so I intend to post all my scores and dates etc.

I'm going to make myself vulnerable for a moment and reveal my self-inflicted addiction for Hamilton.

To everyone who also struggling to keep up with secondaries, I dedicate the chorus of this song to you:

How's everyone doing? I successfully completed my application cycle a few months ago and I would like to offer my assistance to anyone that wants it.
Stay strong my brothers and sisters! In a year from now y'all will be MS1s!!

You damn right!!!!
