2016 Nontrad Applicants' Progress Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Good luck everyone. It's the end of the road for me this cycle. Maybe next year

Have you heard from every school you applied to? I got an invite not too long ago...still holding out for a couple more schools also.
Yes I just heard from the last one today. Kind of was holding out for hope, but not this year.

Sorry to hear that! What are you planning for this year?

I'm still sitting on a LOT of silence. 19 programs. Only news I've had in 1.5 months were two rejections. I'm trying to think what I can do in the next 6 months/year if I need to reapply. My GPA is 'eh' (3.4x sGPA, 3.5 cGPA, >3.9 MSEng GPA; more recently had A's in organic I and II and Biochem) but would be expensive/time consuming to improve. MCAT is strong (513). Apart from additional volunteering I'm a bit lost what I can do. I had everything submitted by mid-august, so I suppose I can submit earlier...?

If I were to apply again next year I'd have these changes by June:
GPA: 2015 -> 2016 (added 1 class)
sGPA: 3.48 -> 3.50
cGPA: 3.50 -> 3.51
Volunteering:
Hospital: 110 -> 200 hr
Food Prep/Deliver: new -> 100 hr
Work:
Continued employment, 3->4 years at current job.
Hoping for some Holiday Magic...!

F!!! God F'ing Dammit. sorry, that sucks. I'm pissed you didn't get in. This process is ridiculous. I got accepted once and found out I couldn't get the loan to go and didn't qualify for the military scholarships...although they called yesterday and were like "actually...this may work." except I already declined that acceptance so that's just beautiful timing.

Anyway, it all chalks up to "whatever". It's a frustrating process that you can't ever admit is frustrating. The only plus I can see if I don't get in this year is not having to take the MCAT and also apply next year...maybe just mystically float through the whole season? Eh. Whatever.

Best of luck to you next year. Maybe I'll see you there.

Wow. Seriously, I'm blown away by this...so sorry to read. I second @PopeChaChaStix , this process is sometimes just ridiculous. And completely baffling.

Can you call your schools to see if you can get any feedback? Might help to at least get an idea of what was throwing them off, so you know what to focus on. And I am very happy to read your PS/EC descriptions/whatever if that would help.

🙁 Meh. Big hugs to you.

@elegantphoenix, we are sending you hugs and all our collective strength to help you achieve your dream. YOU CAN DO IT. Sorry this time was not meant to be. 🙁

Thank you so much, everyone. It is disappointing, of course, but I am so happy for all who have succeeded. It's exciting to hear of all your good news. I'm just reviewing for other options -- and the show must go on. Good luck, everyone! I hope all your dreams will come true 🙂

I have just withdrawn my acceptance and remaining applications for medical school next year. My decision to withdraw was not at all an easy one, and I am writing this with tears in my eyes. It is something that has to be done because of my current active duty status and a snafu with the timing for approval and submission of the military paperwork to attend medical school (an administrative error by someone else, but something not correctable...).

The non-trad community on here has been a heart-warming experience in the roughness of medical school applications. I appreciate the immense support and care you all have shown to me and each other and wish you all the best success in the programs of your choice.

If anyone is interested in military medicine and having them pay for your medical school, please feel free to contact me about the Health Provider Scholarship Program (HPSP) which is the same for all 3 services (Navy, Army, Air Force). I have acquired a wealth of information on this and can also talk to you about what life is like in the military (including for doctors) if any of you have questions.

Please keep in touch if anyone wants to. I am sure I will be keeping up with the threads to see how everyone is doing.

Thank you all

Sorry 🙁
Could you defer? I'm sure you already thought of this but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Oh no!! I was so happy when you got your acceptance. I can't imagine the sorrow at having it taken away due to a paperwork mistake by someone else. Can't you defer it for a year and see if the paperwork can get fixed by then?

Nooooooo that's awful 🙁 I can't believe they did that.

I wouldn't be able to transition in a year because by then I would be in a deploying unit again. So I will have to keep working on things I can improve for the next few years, study for the new MCAT and hopefully crush it, and see what happens from there.

@Glycereine -- I'm so sorry. I am active duty military as well. I have had my share of military political/shenanigans. And they are brutal, relentless and life-changing. Prayers for a safe and better year ahead, my friend. Good luck with your deployment, stay safe. Give me your deployment address so I can send you a care package (I've just sent one for my friend who is deployed) and I have another one ready.

You know what day it is, y'all. Hope folks are hanging in there and keeping warm.

Als, chag sameach!

I'm sorry to hear about your plight. Stuff like this make you want to cut tie with the military.

Sorry to hear this! I'm sure things will work out for you one way or the other, especially with your positivity and optimism!

One of my friends made it and I thought she was so creative!!! Is it a popular craft to make for Jewish people?

I've known quite a few people who've made their own. I'd probably burn down the block if I tried to make anything so I haven't, myself. I just make friends with the crafty people 😀

@breezy16 , btw AC Syndicate needs to come with a warning label: DO NOT PURCHASE BEFORE FINALS

ISNT IT AMAZING ?!
there's this 'secret' addition towards sequence 6 that blew my mind.
I haven't beat it yet because work has consumed my soul.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!! I'm still in disbelief.

I have a friend that is going to be a surgical fellow there!

Brother, and thank you! Growing up in Los Angeles, there are a lot of intangible benefits to Keck. Now to just justify the cost. . .
Bam bam bam! Nontrads killing it !!!
I'm so proud to know you guys.
