2017-2018 APPIC INTERNSHIP APPLICATION THREAD
Started by MiaWallace
I figured this might be useful for others. Went to upload the CV that I was having issues with earlier, due to not having the most updated version of IE. I received the notification that the site is no longer accepting applicants a full 7 hours before the deadline. Not sure why nor do I care to find out, but it could happen to you. Lesson learned: Upload app. materials as soon as they're ready.

That's so disappointing, I'm sorry. 🙁 Where did you get the notification?
Transcripts are part of the APPI
eAnother submission question: When you designate, does the portal automatically submit both your DCT verification and your transcript? I don't see any info about attaching/sending these in any way. Just being extra cautious. Thanks.
Previous internship threads seem to indicate that this is a common occurrence. I'm assuming they closed at the end of their business day yesterday and not at 11:59:59. The notification popped up under my internship designations. It said "Please remove all sites no longer accepting applications" and had the site crossed out in red text. (that red text is so intimidating.) No worries though, on to the next.
Good luck, all! Hoping for multiple interviews for all of us. 🙂
I'm hoping an interview thread gets started soon. Bring on the neuroticism !
This is a very specific question, but does anyone know anything about Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn? I don't know anyone who's done an internship there and I would be very curious about the reputation/internship experience! Trying to decide if I should add it to my list or not...don't want to go over 15 sites if at all possible (b/c $$$) so trying to make sure I don't waste any applications!
Still submitting apps here! Will hopefully finish soon even though my last ones are due mid-November. Good LUCK to all!
Received my first interview offer this morning, so all of that negativity about the site closing early has been erased. Good luck to everyone in this process!

Congrats! Do you mind telling us which site?
Also, SOMEONE MAKE THE INTERVIEW THREAD NOW! IT'S BEGUN!

I know nobody asked me, but I want to put it out there since I started this thread. I will not be able to start the interview thread, unfortunately. I do hope someone else feels able to manage the interview thread!
Congrats forcefive17!

Rule number one. . . NEVER look over things that you have already submitted . No good can come of itSo I'm doing that thing where you look back on all your application materials after you've submitted the majority of them...on my cover letters, I would address them to "Dear Training Director's name and colleagues." A couple people I know had "Dear Training Director's name and Selection Committee," among other things. Am I being super neurotic to think that indicating "colleagues" in my initial salutation could be seen as wrong? Feel free to tell me if I'm at the super-psychotic stage of the internship phase or if I need to be re-wording for my last few letters.
I think you are over thinking this and either wording is perfectly appropriate. Good luck with your last few applications and I agree with Magick91683 that once you are done, you should not look back at what you have submitted. So I'm doing that thing where you look back on all your application materials after you've submitted the majority of them...on my cover letters, I would address them to "Dear Training Director's name and colleagues." Really appreciate you!! I was considering doing it but don't think I could keep up. I'd be happy to help, however, if you like.hmmmmm, I'll do it. It feels like I'm coming full circle since I made the graduate school interview thread oh so many years back... 😵
YUP. I've made it a life rule that extends to after I've printed conference posters too.Rule number one. . . NEVER look over things that you have already submitted . No good can come of it

I recommend to everyone applying this year to find many, many things to fill your schedule (preferably mind-blowingly awesome fun things) for the next 6 weeks. The waiting period felt like an eternity to me, and I drove myself nuts chronically hitting "refresh" in my email hoping to see something new from a site. Having too much free time really opens the door to torturous, maddening thoughts that will drive you all insane and have you endlessly agonizing over the slightest minutiae. Please take this advice (I promise it's good!).
....GO DO FUN THINGS NOW!

Hey all! Hope everyone is hanging in there and excited for the waiting phase (I know I am!). As I was submitting my final applications this morning and was reviewing the pdf, I noticed something that was possibly concerning. On page 5 of my application under the section titled "Summary of Practicum Experience," it states "Terminal Masters Hours (if any) Verified by Director of Clinical Training (DCT)? No." I have no hours logged under a terminal masters so I am hoping this is what the 'no' refers to, and my application was verified by my DCT (APPI says DCT "verified" in red under the status bar). Are others with verified APPIs and without terminal masters hours seeing this as well? Thanks in advance, and good luck to all!
Mine says the same thing, and my application was verified by my DCT. I believe this only applies to individuals who completed a terminal master's in addition to their doctoral degree.Hey all! University of Mississippi Medical Center will be independently accredited by APA for the 2017-2018 internship year and are thus now taking applications for Phase I (a late-breaking news alert should be sent out soon). The Mississippi Consortium has historically been a strong training site for academic psychologists and UMMC plans to continue its dedication to strong research and clinical training. Professional development opportunities are strong with weekly NIH grant writing seminars and help preparing job talks. They will be recruiting 3 child focused and 3 adult focused interns for next year. The deadline for applications is Dec. 8 at midnight and interview notifications are set for Dec. 15. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
I cannot seem to find the internship interview thread. Can someone direct me?

Hi all, I just got on this forum and it looks like super helpful. I am sure everybody is in the middle of the interview process. I can't help but bring up the ranking that's coming up pretty close. I am torn between South Shore in Boston and Denver Health in Denver. Anyone has any points to share? Good luck with all the travelingBased on previous threads, right now is the time to start thinking about the upcoming APPIC/predoctoral internship application cycle! This is a good space to discuss the application process, any questions that might pop up, and just general commiseration. Good luck all!
I am not familiar with either of those sites and it is unlikely that many people will be able (or willing) to offer feedback with regard to specific sites, but in past threads people have posted about more general concerns with ranking. For example, if they were struggling with whether to prioritize preferred location vs. preferred training, etc. You may get more helpful support if you can talk more generally about your dilemma.Hi all, I just got on this forum and it looks like super helpful. I guess my question is more in terms of people can share the impressions of these two programs ...! And of course location vs. trainingThank you...! I agree with what you're saying..
