Has anyone received an interview from Emory yet?
I will send you a PM to ask you a question on your experienceYou get 10 for the base price. I started (and stopped) there. I got 8 interviews, went on 6 and matched #1. I have a PhD but was otherwise not a stellar applicant.
I assume just no one from this forum ....the application received email said invites will be given in August and not to contact them.Has anyone received an interview from Emory yet?
Not to contact them? And no response by now? What turds. I didn't apply and feel compelled to bury them in update requests.I assume just no one from this forum ....the application received email said invites will be given in August and not to contact them.
I know from an insider that they started reviewing last week and will send the first batch this weekHas anyone received an interview from Emory yet?
Sorry my bad ....guess I was wrong....will await my reject 🙂I know from an insider that they started reviewing last week and will send the first batch this week
Makes sense. I'd imagine they don't interview enemies.Emory sent an interview invite to a friend on 9/5.
^ThisI've gotten 6 interviews over the past 2 weeks all from programs that started sending their first batch of invites over a month ago. Keep your heads up! More will come as people continue to cancel. Keep calm and carry on the interview trail
Good for you! Would you mind sharing which program?Recieved interview from a place which had rejected me earlier. Has this happened with anyone else ?
Nope. Did you confirm with them?Recieved interview from a place which had rejected me earlier. Has this happened with anyone else ?
Yep confirmed . WierdNope. Did you confirm with them?
I think IV season is coming to a close
Well would you look at that...it's almost like the more senior members and moderators of the forum don't in fact have their heads up our butts.Would concur . Have been getting a bunch of interviews . Was panicking unnecessarily. Got 3 IV Today, so I guess there are a bunch coming
It happens. Especially with a new PD or PC at the helm.Recieved interview from a place which had rejected me earlier. Has this happened with anyone else ?

As I have said basically any time this has come up for the 10+ years I've been here, interview offers are an iterative process. You as a PD have X spots you need to fill. You usually need to interview 3X (or 5X, or 10X, whateverX) candidates to fill your spots. So you offer that many interviews. And you get back 5X-Y acceptances, plus Z cancellations prior to the interview. So then you send out another Y+Z offers.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
Obviously you can hit the point of diminishing returns, especially if this process takes too long. But 2-4 rounds of offers is not unusual.
Ok I was thinking about this a few weeks backHello Doctors! and all applicants (who are doctors again!):
I have a situation that i need to discuss and I appreciate if anybody can tell me what is best to do:
- I have applied broadly to Hem/Onc this year, and as far as I did not get any interview I decided to apply to NON-ACGME credited program as a back up plan.
Then I did not receive any interview from NON-ACGME program (they usually send out interviews later in the season like November and on), so I got agitated and I applied to Hospice and Palliative Care programs (only in places that they do have Hem/Onc fellowship too!) as a back-up of my original back-up plan!!!
Then I noticed that if by November (that we have to rank the ACGME programs), I do not receive any interview from NON_ACGME programs (like MD Anderson) I have to make a decision about ranking or not ranking Palliative Care programs (I have already received few interviews for that).
The point is if I rank the Palliative fellowships but then get possible interview and accepted for non-ACGME Hem/Onc, I cannot go to non-ACGME. Because if you get matched but do not go for that program, you are banned from match system forever (and from applying to 3 year ACGME programs later).
So I think I have two choices:
-forget bout Palliative care interviews and application (I applied so I can possibly try for the 3 yr Hem/Onc in the same hospital later).
-forget about non-ACGME Hem/Onc.
The rational behind one year ACGME Palliative care program was to boost my CV for future 3 year ACGME Hem/Onc fellowship (same reason I am applying for non-ACGME hem/Onc).
Beside taking my anxiety pills, any other suggestion?!
oh, my CV>>> I have 10 publication, and 3 years of research and not very good scores.
The question is: which one is better and takes you to possible future match in 3 year ACGME Hem/Onc fellowship?
-One year ACGME credited Hospice and Palliative care
or
-One year NON-ACGME fellowship in program like Leukemia or Oncology Emergencies or Melanoma, or etc ?
Yiu still can apply for non ACGME program like leukemia. If it does not work this coming season, will help you for the one after. You have 10 publications and did not get interviews. How do you think leukemia fellowship will help you?Hello Doctors! and all applicants (who are doctors again!):

Problem with NON ACGME fellowship is that they are at big name places , where matching is next to impossible for an IMG or an average AMG . As you will start your fellowship in July and application will be due in 2 weeks , I don't think you will be get a good LOR from your mentor either.
I think doing a chief year( if that is an option) would be better than either

Thanks for the answerI would still go to the really good palliative interviews and only rank those. The non ACGME is not guaranteed.
Assuming that's UAB you're talking about...Question: which two programs would you cancel if you have to?
U of Alabama
U of Arizona
U of Rochester
U of Louisville
Thanks
Not senior so take with however many grains of salt you'd prefer. If it hasn't been discussed in the program overview or whatnot, I tend to ask something related to fellows development at the end/shortly thereafter fellowship (various K/T32 considerations, K to R conversion rates, academic jobs fellows tend to take). What questions would the senior members of this forum recommend we ask our interviewers ? There are some obvious/generic questions to ask (what are the strengths/areas of improvement for the program, research opportunities, etc) and I know that they have informational lectures during the interview day where a lot of the most frequent questions are addressed. However it seems that inevitably one of the most commonly asked questions is, "what questions do you have?"
I would broaden this to ask what fellows do post-graduation in general. You think you want an academic career now. You are most likely wrong, or at the very least, won't have one.Not senior so take with however many grains of salt you'd prefer. Soon people are going to start posting and asking for help with their rank list. Just a little piece of advice if you don't want your post to be ignored by most of us:
1- list the programs in the order you're planning to rank them. Don't post a random list of programs and expect people to rank them for you. This's the easiest way to get your post ignored.
2- Mention your priorities/goals so the list makes sense to strangers looking at it. that can be a geographic location or a specific tumor or lab research or BMT or private practice or undecided...etc
3- It's wise to wait until after you interview to make up your list and not use reputation alone or, even worse, use US news rankings or NCI designation.
Good luck and enjoy your interviews. Just show up on time, smile and don't be a jerk. It's that easy.
