2018-2019 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks! They emailed me at 4:55pm EST. I didn't get a chance to get on SDN until almost 10pm and was surprised no one else had posted in, also I think this is earlier than they've notified in the past so they might not be done with invites! It ain't over til the rejection email comes in! (At least that's what I've been telling myself with other sites, ha)

Do you know if most sites send a formal rejection? Or do some sites just not respond at all?

-National Training Training Consortium - Central Region
-Burrell Behavioral and Midwest Psychotherapy
-Invite for both
-11/16/17
-Mass Email
-12/1
-I've moved from eating copious amounts of sunflower seeds to obsessing over what will happen if all 14 of my sites invite me for interview!?!

Yes, I will probably do the site visit. I may or may not have time to socialize because I have a friend in Branson that wants to visit. I will keep ya'll posted!

Could you please specify which tracks?

Just got a rejection from UAMS (neuro track)...on a Saturday. And I had to open an attached letter to see for sure that it was a rejection. :yeahright:

Same here friend. I got the personal letter too (like it made us feel better).

I will say I think we made it past initial cuts, and were on the fence for the final interview. The letter was at least personalized, something most sites don't give. So don't lose hope.

I'm 1/4 on interviews. Not feeling great about myself🙁

I didn't think about it that way; that makes me feel a little better! 🙂

Congrats on Missouri!!

Thanks for the info! It seems like Rush sends out rejections a few days after the invites but your post made me feel better 🙂. I wish it all came at once 🤔

Can I ask, in the past UCLA Semel sent out rejections and a single invitation for all tracks simultaneously (two separate mass emails same day). However no rejections reported so far and only child neuropsychology track reporting invitations. Have they changed their MO? Any other tracks hear from UCLA Semel on the 16th?

But I do this every year...ok day...I do this every day. How am I going to handle the "extra" of all of this mess? 😛

Is anyone planning to NOT wear a suit to these things? I'm newly postpartum, nothing fits, and I reeeaallly do not want to buy another suit. Our DCT said suits are not required, and I'm thinking about a dress with a blazer. Thoughts?

I think that’s probably fine! I’m pretty sure I read either a suit or a nice dress with tights/hose and a blazer!

Congrats on the baby! I had my twins 6 months ago! I am pleasantly surprised by the number of other mamas applying to internship. How old is your little one?

If we wear a skirt suit or dress, should we also wear panty hose? Is it required? I hate buying panty hose and can NEVER find the right color, so my legs end up looking like I'm wearing the wrong foundation color -- usually too pale by three shades. I have my old interview skirt suit I wanted to re-wear, but was hoping to get away without panty hose.

Thanks!! Wow, twins--I'm in awe of you, mama. I have a 3-year-old & a two-month-old 🙂

Frankly, I think this is another one of those situations where if the deciding factor is not wearing panty hose...or the "right" panty hose...that's probably not a place you want to be. Then again, I got into an argument with another applicant during grad school interviews because she was shaming people for not wearing full suits and talking about how "unprofessional" and "cheap" it looked, so...

Congratulations on your new baby!! 🙂

I think that in general people wear suits - at least that's what my DCT (clinical psych program) implied. That being said, a friend of mine last year wore slacks and a sweater to all of her interviews. I think you want to be presentable and polished, and I think there's something to be said about wearing something you feel confident and comfortable in. In my humble opinion, a dress and blazer sounds perfectly polished and professional, and if you're going to feel the best in that, I say go for it!

But really, why are panty hose still a thing?! Can we not? It's 2017, please tolerate the look of my bare legs.

Moving on, is your suit black? What if you got opaque black tights instead of flesh-colored sheer hose? You wouldn't have to worry about finding the right color and they're usually warmer because they're thicker.

I've had the same thought! It seems like they used to send out all invites on 12/1, so this is throwing me off. I applied to the clinical child track, so I'm still holding out some hope...

That's what I'm hoping! It's odd that they would send out invites so early and for only one track, so I hope there are still more invites to come!

Speaking of this sentiment of hoping for more invites to come for several sites....is anyone else actively preparing for tomorrow - a business day? Monday is coming, y'all. :scared:

I’m dying to know what this week will look like with thanksgiving. I’m curious about what sites will work to get our notifications prior to the holiday or if it will be an extra long wait until the Monday after. Ugh, this is the worst! I’m so impatient!
I'm so neurotic I can't help myself and compiled data regarding notification dates (for my sites) for the past 2 years in a spreadsheet. At least for my sites, the data would suggest that the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving are common notification dates. Still trying to figure out how I feel about that.
i just felt my stomach turn

I got my University of Minnesota rejection at 10:15pm on Friday night while I was at an engagement party...the struggle is real! :help:

I keep trying to remind myself that I've only heard from 2 of 19 sites, so that's a 50% invite stat at the moment...who knows what this week will bring though...:poke:

I did the same thing with past dates, but my sites were all super inconsistent. Its good to know there is a push to get info out before the long weekend! I hope we all get good news!

Congratulations!! Me too! (But for the Pediatric Psych Track). I was not prepared for the email on Sunday at all! Mad I didn't reply as quick as possible- hoping I can still get the date I wanted.

Mine too, if they sent out invites in yesterday and I don't receive one, does that mean am not considered? 🙁
I've been wondering about this too - anyone know how common it is for invites to go out multiple days?

Thank you (or your DCT)!
I can feel it in my chest after that Nemours post! :scared:
Just to echo @OpalinePhoenix, I mentioned earlier in this thread that I was panicking and preparing for a rejection because my friend got an invite to a site on a Friday, but I didn't hear anything. Finally heard from them the following Monday and got an invite. So it does seem that invites go out at different times!

(That being said, I totally feel you: I've seen invites go out for 2 of my sites and I've heard nothing from either of them. I keep going back and forth between actively preparing for a rejection from both, to holding out a small bit of hope because I haven't heard for sure. It definitely sucks, so if nothing else, rest assured you're not the only one in this boat!)
