I feel you. My adviser/chair advised me that I would not be invited to the open house for Univ of Wa because his star student from many years ago didn't get an invite. He said it was "too competitive." Then I saw him in the hallway and was like, "I got invited to UW!" He responded, "Um ok. Do you want to go there?" "Uh, yes I do." He responded "Oh ok."

That's it?

OK? like seriously...you should at least say good job or something. Jeebuz my adviser sometimes.

GOOD FOR YOU!!! Prove them all wrong! I still remember in high school, my guidance counselor told me I’d never get into U of Miami. I got in with scholarship. Take that, lady!

Jeez some of the comments from mentors! I wonder if I say stuff like that accidentally. Such as when my friends get rejections from neuro sites and I nod and say "it sounds like a tough year for neuro." I hope I don't sound like a total butt. On the other hand...I often have automatic thoughts I keep to myself for good reason so...I'll have to agree with Hawkeye lol

That’s actually horrible. I’m so sorry! ☹️ I’m really lucky that my DCT and faculty advisor (who’s a tough cookie) have been extremely supportive, helpful, and encouraging throughout this process. Hang in there!

Y'all give me hope and strength. So sorry that people have been rude/invalidating/awful at various points - I'm so impressed that you've kept your heads up and kept going. I keep looking around at the folks on here and being in awe of all of your senses of humor and kindness, and knowing that people are pushing you down and you keep getting up anyway is frustrating...but also incredibly inspiring. Has anyone heard anything about when Denver Health Medical Center might be holding interviews? I don't think invites/rejections have gone out yet, but they don't list interview dates online and I can't seem to locate any info about interview dates in last year's interview forum either. I'm mostly asking because my January is starting to fill up and I'd really like to make sure I'm available for this one!

I just want to chime in and say I’ve been absolutely appalled by some of the things your faculty/DCTs have been telling you guys!! I’ve had my issues with my program, but at least no one's made me feel like I don’t deserve the training I want. If anything, my DCT has probably been bending a bit too far over backwards to make us all feel less anxious (i.e. invalidating the sense that this process is brutal).

The thing that has been the most helpful to me is the acknowledgment from people who have been in this field a long, long time that it’s largely a crapshoot. You may think Candidate A is a better fit for a site than Candidate B, but who can say for sure anyway? I’ve already been invited for a track that I felt reasonably certain that I would be rejected BASED ON WHAT THE SITE SAID THEY WERE LOOKING FOR IN THEIR BROCHURE. Who knows why? I’m going to assume it’s because my many other amazing qualities shone through. And yours will, too! To the right TD at the right site!!

So have I! It's made me appreciate the hell out of my chair (well appreciate him even more cause he is consistently awesome).

Here: You all rock! You are all super amazing to have gotten to this place in your career!! Some sites will miss out on having the chance to meet you and that's the sites' loss. Other sites will rank you and pray to hook you on match day. I can't wait to see where you all land!!

I didn't apply to the first 3 of those but I did apply to KC and haven't heard anything yet. Last year I believe they were pretty close to the 12/15 cutoff.

Also, this has been bothering me all week - I came off of Thanksgiving with 5 interview invitations (and no rejections yet) and was feeling pretty okay about my status. I talked to my advisor and they said, "You shouldn't be excited yet. You can be excited if you get eight interviews. Eight is the magic number." It was quite the invalidating experience.

Super rude!! If it helps, our DCT says the "magic number" is 5-9 🙂 so according to her, you are golden!

I have a friend who applied to Jesse Brown and has heard back, I think I also may have seen a few people post about it (in case you want to reference for the track you applied to). I think I may have also seen someone post about the Hines VA already, but am not 100% sure there.

Yes - 5 is excellent! My goal coming into this was 5 interviews. It's a 90% match rate. More would be lovely, of course

Every year our program has a couple students who only get 1 interview, and they, for the past four years I've been here, have always matched. APPIC match stats say 1 interview = 63% match rate and 3 interviews = 84% match rate. So yes, your match odd are slightly better than 90% at 5 interviews, but the majority of individuals who get just 1 interview still match.

My guess is this particular DCT might be sublimating, displacing, and /or projecting their own anxiety related to maintaining a successful program. This probably has very little to do with your actual qualifications or fit based on the evidence provided thus far. #don'tmesswithforumfam #MBTIsurvivedtimeforareason #INTJisthirsty #wandsite

Weird!! Thanks for the validation. 🙂Yeah that rejection really got to me at first. I read the letter to my supervisor, and he spent the rest of the day insulting Emory for me. (And he has killer insults, let me tell you!) It was so amazing--this is why we all need good people in our lives.

Side note - It would be really cool to have some kind of thread where past interns could rate/give insight into what sites are actually like. I've talked to some current and former interns at some of the sites I'm interested in, but won't have the chance to talk to others until I meet them at interviews. I heard a story from another person in my program once about how they were on an interview and there was some kind of "morale committee" that had just been started because staff morale was so horrible. I wanna know stuff like this!

The internship-process-induced-apathy is also real. Currently working on a presentation to lead a discussion for 2 articles I haven't read and have no intention of reading fully. It's taking everything in me to actually create a presentation and not just go "eff it, let's wing this ish."

edit: the only thing keeping me going at this point is the condition that I can't eat my leftover sweet potato fries until I finish this presentation. My love for sweet potato fries runs real effing deep.
