*Not sane anymore really. A few interviews but I’m not sure who even thinks I’m competitive anymore.

Edit: My Neuropsychology labmate who I consider much more competitive also got axed here today. Dang.

I can really empathize with this, and have wished on multiple occasions that I would have taken another year before applying for internships. Neuro is no joke, and it seems like a very competitive year. The "internship crisis" is resolving for many, but neuro seems to be lagging a bit behind.

Just based on how things have played out for me and other neuro folks in my cohort, this is all madness and none of it makes any sense. It's hard not to take it personally since it feels like we lay ourselves bare through this process. For what it's worth, I know you're awesome and wouldn't be where you are if you weren't!
 
So one of my sites has asked me to email them a "passport style photo" before the actual interview and another site has asked me to bring a "photograph" of myself on the day of the interview. I was wondering if I should go to a CVS or Target and have them take a passport photo of me... Thoughts anyone?

Any semi-professional photo will be just fine. Try not to add an extra expense for yourself. They'll most likely be using the photos on a dartboard in order to make internship selections. Think online dating profile-avoid gym pics and nudity and you're good to go.

Passport style photo? I remember this from one of the brochures and now I'm wondering if one of my sites sent invites... and I didn't get one. 🤔

Sanity: I must not have been a good fit, so its not where I need to be. Everyone at this point in the game is smart and well qualified. Its about fit. If I do not fit, my self-worth does not deserve to be equated with invitation or rejection from any internship site. This feels hard to believe sometimes (2 rejections, no invites), but I know it to be true. Things that are helping me remember this are: I have a beautiful supportive wife, good friends i can count on, and have other places where I fit.

Krav Maga lets me project my aggression and receive positive feedback for it.

Running is great too.

Also, a few moscow mules and chocolate pie make everything better.

Agree-- I had to get my passport renewed last month and the CVS/Walgreens passport photo (horrible quality, took a total of about 3 minutes from picture taking to checkout) was $16. I was NOT happy. I would bring one you have!

I keep going back and forth between loving this illusion of a "break" and aggressively wishing I'd hear from all of my remaining sites all at once. It's very confusing and only copious amounts of pecan pie and sweet potato casserole can console me.
 
So has anyone apply to central Arkansas veterans healthcare system??? Also, have you heard back? I’ve neither been rejected nor have I gotten an interview and today was their notification day so I’m very confused !

So my boyfriend got an interview notice at Arkansas VA about a week ago :/ hopefully you hear soon!
 
I hate the silence. Last night I had a dream that my top site emailed us that we would hear back by the end of the weekend, which woke me up, and then I had to check my email.... at 3 am. I promptly feel asleep and had a dream that my hair was going grey AND falling out.

Today I coped by eating leftovers and binging the last season of The Mindy Project.

....and then I got sad that there is no more Mindy Project to watch.

What I'm trying to say is that there is no relief and can it be 12/15 already?!

I have purposely held off on finishing Mindy because I legit do not think I can take it right now. Instead, I just watch the first 3 seasons over and over again.

Also, if it makes you (or anyone else feel any better), my friends took my phone while we spent a few hours Black Friday shopping today because they got annoyed with me checking my email every 15 minutes. I can't even shop (which, not to brag or anything, is one of the things I do best) without this process intruding. :arghh:

edit: although I will say, I had much more fun once the phone was out of my reach and def did NOT buy blouses for under my suit (which was the plan), but DID get some bomb-ass penguin pajama pants from the Loft outlet that I justified by saying "these will be my interview pajamas: they will keep me warm and make me smile, therefore they are worth $15"

P.s. I'm so glad you got great PJs at Loft Outlet! I was also trying to find shells for my suit and was pretty disapointed not to find anything. Loft has NEVER failed me.

Same! The Loft has my heart and a hefty proportion of my bank account. I struggled to find solid tops; they had all kinds of delightful, grandma-esque florals (which is my usual vibe), but less of just basic, solid-colored shells/blouses. It was definitely disappointing because not only did I not get to leave with some baller grandma-esque floral blouses, I didn't find what I came for. But I did get the pajamas. That was definitely a win.

Ooh, this brings up a question I would like some input on! So...patterns are probably not the safest bet, I'm figuring, but for under suit jackets, is pretty much any non-absurd colored shirt considered suitable? (pun definitely intended 😛 ) Also, for women, should it have a collar or not neccesarily?

Also, let's see that due to the structure of some interview goings ons that we will likely see the same people 2 days in a row, do we need 2 different suits? 🙁

Well if we're going the interview outfit route, does anyone have thoughts on forensic interviews and potentially having different color pieces? Like would a black blazer work with gray slacks? Or should I go classic and match them? Also, someone in my cohort mentioned wearing looser slacks...but loose slacks are NOT a good look for me. I tend to go for a snug fit around the top (er, bottom) and just a straight leg. Am I overthinking this? lol

I would personally just go with a different blouse. Same suit seems fine to me. Those would be high expectations. Suits are expensive!

@Anxious20 THANK YOU. I did not apply to that site...so apparently there is more than one site asking for a "passport style photo" (which I still think is a little weird, sans the appropriate suggestion that the photos are for a dart-throwing-intern-match game). I appreciate the brief anxiety relief!!

For me, I'm personally not a collar or a button-down fan. I bought both of these blouses (1, 2) and can confirm that they lay well and look good with a suit jacket (we had to do 2 mock interviews in full internship garb last week, so they've each had a trial run :happy:). I'm personally looking for similar style tops in different colors (preferably a jewel tone, I see you teal) with SLEEVES as again, I don't want to nervous sweat through to my jacket.

I bought 1 blazer, but then have 2 pairs of pants because those seem like they could get funkier/dirtier than a jacket (so long as I don't nervous-sweat out the wazoo).

I don't know about the different color pieces. I'm personally matching which may have more to do with my somewhat rigid personality than anything 🙂. As far as pant fit, they do have some pants that are more fitted in the thigh and knee and then have a slight flare/trouser shape at the bottom. The ones I got and LOVED were the Logan fit pant from Banana Republic. I got a lot of compliments on them and they looked really professional and polished to me. My blazer is actually a different brand but I had my mom inspect the blazer with the BR pants and she said she couldn't tell a difference, and if mom says the blacks match, then damnit, the blacks must match.
