Staying sane: I'm waiting for my christmas portraits to be posted so I can show you all!
Sorry to hear about this rejection... but I have a thing just for you. And perhaps other fans of the Room.

The Room... Songified.

Sometimes I just want to yell "You're tearing me apart" at the internship process.

You have made my life a better one to have. This is my new favorite song!

I am very curious to learn about rejections and invitations that have been privately messaged. Has anyone gotten a rejection from New Orleans VA or the Salem VA? Has anyone heard from the Hampton Virginia VA? Tucson VA? Please feel free to private message me and I will post the information for you.

I haven't heard from New Orleans VA, Salem VA, or Hampton VA. I believe all 3 of those sites had 12/15 as their notification deadline so there's still time! (I'm REALLLLY hoping for Hampton VA)!

Edited to add that I didn't apply to the Tucson VA

Man, that really sucks- TERRIBLE way to start things out. BUT! I will just remind you (as I have been reminding myself) that each application is a separate, independent event (#stats) and 4 rejections doesn't mean the rest will be rejections too! Keep the faith!!!
OMG..a real-life stats application. I never thought I'd see the day where stats brought me anything but misery lol

can someone talk me down from this ledge?

I'm neuro-focused and got three recs from neuro externship supervisors. Just this weekend, I realized none of my recommenders can really speak to my intervention skills and feel like it was a grave miscalculation. I was so focused on getting everything in in time that it never even crossed my mind.

I looked at the APPIC recommendation form and the relevant section looks kind of general, so maybe it's not so bad, but maybe I am re-framing too hard. I am hoping that all of my supervisors wrote about how awesomely I conducted clinical interviews and how much pts reported thinking I was the best. What's the opposite of catastrophizing?

So far lots of rejects and one invite but still like 20 more to hear from...

The opposite of catastrophizing is either minimizing or denial, not exactly sure. This being said, with mad respect, I posit this to you...Do neuro sites place that much weight on intervention? My cohorts in the neuro track tend to be quite a bit less focused on therapy. Most of them are really not that interested...

Since I have nothing better to do than refresh my email, can someone link the internship interview thread from 2017-2018 so I can obsessively look at dates from last year? For some reason I can never find it in the list of threads!

2016-2017 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

The years in the title make it look like it's for the year previous, but it's the right one!

i have known neuro people to have the same situation and get several interviews! You should be fine. like traumamama said that is what they emphasize - and like you said they can talk about interviews/rapport still

Thanks. The wandsite will come is what I keep telling myself.

Did anyone here apply to the Hamm Clinic in St. Paul, MN? Reviewing last years thread, they aren't even listed as having notified people at all. One of my preferred sites and feeling really wiggy about it, probably also because Im at 1 interview and 4 rejections atm. :grumpy:

I’m neuro focused as well and I had two people that could speak to my Assessment experience and one that could speak to my intervention skills and I have applied to 24 sites and got nine rejections so far and no invites so I think it’s a bit of a tossup as to what sites will care about. I know sites tend to favor you having a lot of intervention hours but I think since you’re neuro focused your recommenders can talk about skills that would directly relate to intervention, like interpersonal skills and interviewing skills all of those things relate intervention so I wouldn’t worry too much about it!

I think you made the right call! If you're Neuro-focused and applying to Neuro intwrnships, that's what you want your recs to focus on! And as someone said above, that doesn't mean that your letter-writers can't or won't talk about your interview and rapport skills. Those are just as important, and would definitely be incorporated into an LOR!

Your avatar makes me think of emailing all my sites with the line "you should learn how to say no"

Get off that ledge! I know folks who've been in the same position and successfully matched (and even graduated) 😉

Dear god yes! Every time I get a rejection they’re always saying unfortunately we can’t offer you an interview or I’m sorry that this is the case and then the add and we were really impressed by number of your experiences and I’m just like well then why didn’t I get an interview? just call a spade a spade and say thanks but no thanks we appreciate your interest we’re not interested. I appreciate that way more than the constant we were impressed but not impressed enough[emoji849]!

Anyone heard from Bay Pines VA, neuro track? Their deadline is today and I don’t think they’ve sent out invites yet...

Don't know if this helps, but I just got an e-mail invite (~10 minutes ago) for general track. Also, the e-mail was generic but there was a personalized attachment letter of invitation.
