2020-2021 Waitlist Support Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My PI is a professor affiliated with the medical school I'm WL at and he offered to send an email to the adcoms on my behalf. Should I take him up on that offer? Not sure if it'd be stepping on anyone's toes or how adcoms might view this type of vouch. I'm sure they get plenty.
@Goro

@Goro
Did you use him as an LOR? If so, it might just be more extra work for ADCOMs without really telling them anything new. Likely wouldn't help I'd think

Hey ya'll! Does anyone know if PCOM-Ga has a lot of waitlist movement?

We’re reaching the state of the waitlist thread from last year where there were like 4 pages of posts through March, then 10 pages in April, and 30 pages April 27th–May 2nd lol.

I encourage it though because the liveliness of the thread makes this waiting game a little bit less stressful. Only so much of my neuroticism can be subdued by reading the same posts over and over again.

yes this thread keeps me adequately distracted from studying for my retake (which I am not even close to being prepared for) 😬

Unlikely to move the needle

How it feels to be WLgang right about now...

good luck, hopefully something comes your way soon. and hopefully this is the start of the cascade we're all waitin on.
Thank you friend. Not that my word means much but I look at this WL support thread everyday 1. because you guys are funny and 2. for the support, and I honestly do think there's gonna be a lot of WL movement this cycle!! I am a strong believer in the "many people got to attend all of their interviews and therefore hold onto many acceptances" theory.

I still believe in this theory too. But my belief in it is two-fold. One, because it actually makes sense and some very [I consider logical] people on here stand behind it; and two, because it is the last thread keeping my sanity intact haha.

Okay y'all advice needed on letter of intent vs interest. Out of my 6 WL's, there's 2 that I am very very very much interested in attending and have preference over the other 4. School X is in-state for me, would be significantly cheaper, and is actually my top top choice, but they historically have pretty low WL movement (at least relative to the other school). School Y is also amazing, and is my 2nd top choice, and has historically more WL movement than School X. Where should I send a letter of intent for? The school that is actually my top choice School X(but not sure if sending a letter of intent would actually do anything) or my second choice school School Y (where a letter of intent might do more in terms of moving me up their list?). OR should I just risk it all and send one to both? lol

Definitely don’t send to both!!

Never send more than one letter of intent!

I'm amazed by all of you high scoring people still sitting on WL. They do say only d a Letter of intent for the school that you really want to go to. Tough choice..
oof thanks, don't know if i'd be considered a high scoring applicant but appreciate the solidarity lol

This is a calculated risk as you've identified, but definitely don't send both. Honestly, I have the mentality of beggars can't be choosers, so I'd pick school Y.

While I can't imagine applying again, I'm glad to see how far I made it in this cycle. I literally remember refreshing for 10 hours straight just to sign up for an MCAT. And bombing it, retaking it within a months span and cramming out all my secondaries within a week just to be complete by early September. The struggle was so real... the struggle is still very real

Major props for your tenacity!

And side note, I'm vegetarian but your username makes me want to make orange tofu now

So i just stumbled upon this when doing more research regarding the interview hoarding phenomenon. this leads me to believe that my gut feeling was right about how we're probably going to see the same amount of WL as usual.

this is obviously not related to med school, but i think the same will apply. not meant to stress anybody out, just presenting what i found. im still hoping we see more than usual, but hopefully this helps the people who thought their may be less this cycle.

I'm sorry but we only accept confirmation bias of BIGLY WL movement! so this is fake news!! /s

Only ✨positivity✨allowed. No 🙅🏽‍♂️🙅🏻‍♀️ negativity 💀 that makes us sad😢😿💦💧. when we 👩🏻👩🏼👩🏾🧑🏻🧑🏽🧑🏿 say big and strong 🏋️ waitlist movement, we get BIG and STRONG movement 😤✌🏼🤌🏽💪💪🏼💪🏾

I've seen data saying that med school applicants this year applied to several more medical schools on average compared to last years, while the total number of applicants this year even decreased slightly. This could lead to interview hoarding by some high performers, who ultimately can only matriculate at one school, which would lead to more WL movement.

I don't know how residency application works, but maybe that could be the difference compared to med school apps? Did resident applicants also "apply" to more schools than in the past?

At this point in the cycle, Im waitlisted by 3 schools and haven't heard a word from the other 2 schools I interviewed with. Moral is low. Getting pretty depressed about rewriting my personal statement when I'm done with my finals. The hardest part about waiting is not being able to make any summer plans for housing, work, traveling (when its safe) etc. Happy to find this thread and see a lot of people in the same boat. (Yay friends) Hoping the next couple weeks are big for us

I've seen this as well. IT IS INCORRECT!!!! The number of applicants was up around 18% this year, from around 51,000 to around 60,000. Everyone saying anything else was incorrectly attributing last cycle's numbers to this year's cycle (with the slight decrease attributable to different measurement dates), because of the weird way AAMC labels data.

For example, direct from AAMC Table A-16: "Each academic year includes applicants and matriculants that applied to enter medical school in the fall of the given year. For example, academic year 2020‐2021 represents the applicants and matriculants that applied to enter medical school during the 2020 application cycle."

This means that what AAMC describes as academic year 2020-21 data actually belongs to people who were part of the 2019-20 admissions cycle. It has been explained repeatedly on SDN, but the misconception persists, mostly because what AAMC does is so counterintuitive.

Back to the matter at hand, nobody knows whether or not interview or acceptance hoarding was a thing this year, but, from various statements made by various adcoms, the issuance of initial As was down, WLs were up, applications were way up, and WL movement is expected to be equal to or greater than last year. What will actually happen remains to be seen, but we will certainly find out in the next week or two. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Knightdoc coming in with a wise rebuttal like the real SDN veteran he is! 😎 Godspeed to all of us and thanks Knightdoc for helping out WLgang!

Where do you get the info that there were 60,000 applicants this year?

i'm also an avocado toast stan!! 10/10 rec mixing a bit of miso paste into your mashed avocado and topping with garlic powder/sriracha!! 😋
Oh my...that sounds absolutely brilliant. I love avocado, bread (obviously), miso, garlic (the spice of life) and the heat. I will report back with my findings. Thank you for this, truly.

Edit: Come to think of it, perhaps this is why my diaper is so dirty.; but, I refuse to change.

Edit Part Dos: Just to clarify, I refuse to change either my eating habits or my diaper.

THIS. I am trying to rewrite my personal statement now. I thought it was effing amazing when I first wrote it. After reading it again... I was very wrong. Not entirely bad but it's kind of cringe. So here I am on a gorgeous spring day sitting, reliving some trauma in my head to tell my story better. Like okay let me remember when x family member was perishing slowly and how I felt and why that motivated me etc. Meanwhile my neighbor is blasting WAP by the pool.
Like please let me in. I'll give you all my bitcoin. I just want to enjoy my summer man

Anyone have any info on KCU DO school waitlist from previous cycles?
