It just means you interviewed earlier and they chose to waitlist you earlier. Most schools don’t touch their waitlist until their class is filled and they are constantly reevaluating waitlist order/priority.

I was waitlisted on March 15 (after interviewing at a program in December), does that mean that I am likely lower down on their waitlist?

I've heard conflicting things, but sometimes with students who have interviewed later, its possible that schools wanted to give you an A, but because its later in the cycle and they dont have spots - so you might be closer to the top of the WL....but this is also dependent on whether or not you had a good interview/how it compared to people who interviewed before you as I think there is a rolling admissions aspect to the WL
...so in conclusion, idk if there's a real answer 😅

Not at all. I'm certainly no adcom, but I've been obsessing about this for so long that I might as well be one. :laugh:

Anyway, from my understanding from speaking with a few adcoms, plus, studying their posts here over the past two years, is that adcoms meet periodically and vote on candidates after they have been interviewed.

So, when they meet, they can vote to A, R, WL, or hold, and they might or might not communicate to you at any time. Keep in mind that MANY schools will reject people early, but not tell them until the end, so you have no way to know anything until they tell you. You might have been placed on the WL in December, and only told in March. You might have been on hold since December, and later placed on the WL. You have no way to know. And, in any event, when you are placed on a WL has no natural relation to where you stand on the WL. None at all.

Where you stand is totally dependent on how your file was scored, and where you are relative to everyone else on the WL. The first one on the WL could be the highest, lowest, or anywhere in between. Same for everyone else. If your school doesn't give you an indication (high priority, upper third, whatever), then you are totally blind, and, unfortunately, no amount of staring at tea leaves is going to change that.

I graduated in 3 years using AP credits and found out at least half of my schools won't consider me for admission unless I take the lab component of chem and physics at a CC, since I used AP credit for them.

It's all good, I'm not complaining, I've come to terms with it, I wish I had checked before I applied. But who knows! Maybe I'll get in off the WL and wont have to drop thousands in student loans at a local CC!

somewhat of a step below you guys with my 3.83, 516 and cookie cutter-y ecs, but i was hoping that i would be able to scrape through somewhere ish at this point?? you guys seem like hilarious super nice ppl with great senses of humor so id love to be colleagues in the future (given the chance!!) 🥲🥲

I wish all of our neuroticism/constant SDN postings could be worth something (shows our commitment to X school? lol) - then we would all be a shoo ins
