2020-2021 Waitlist Support Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also have a 519 and a 3.98. 2 WL. Oofs all around. Bad year for 519's

Thought I applied broadly, too. Got no attention from any of my 3 state schools. Feelsbadman
520 3.85 1 WL I feel you on the Oofs. To be fair--after a year of reflection--my PS could have been significantly better.

Can you "plan to enroll" at a school if you're only on WLs, or is that only available to accepted students?

Me seeing all these posts from you spectacular high stat applicants lol

Hey everyone. Does anyone know if acceptances off of the waitlist come by phone call or by e-mail, usually? Or is it highly school-dependent?

Nope. You can't plan to enroll at a school that hasn't accepted you. The tool should not even be available to you if you don't have any As.

my school has only had one W in the last several days that was posted on SDN. obviously it's not an accurate sample but other years had way more W postings around this time . trying not to think too much into it. anyone else seeing the same thing? :/

Sorry, I don’t have any big tips lol. For the MCAT, I dedicated six weeks to studying 40-50 hrs/week using Kaplan’s 7-book collection and AAMC practice tests/questions.

For college classes, I just spent a ton of time doing schoolwork. Honestly, I probably dedicated too much time to studying for classes. If I had studied a little less (but still enough to maintain a ~3.8 GPA), I would have had more time to do interesting stuff outside of classes that would have had a net-positive effect on my application, and I might have had more As and fewer WLs lol. High stats are only good if you have great ECs to back them up.
I have the opposite problem. lol

In past years have a lot of people heard on the 1st day of major WL movement? Or is it more of a slow bleed

totally random question, but is anybody else having the problem where when they log into sdn, their name badge or profile or whatever shows up as somebody else's? this has happened to me twice in a row today. where instead of NoEyeEyeGuy, it's showing somebody elses profile under my name. super sketch. i took a screen shot of it and will be sending it to SDN

Same problem here

Hackers tryna take our meme therapy away too

Two things keeping me going through this week:
1) The memes in this thread...
2) Watching the Jags draft TLaw tonight. (hopefully... 👀)
The Jags gotta draft Mac Jones, definitely has a higher ceiling 😉

As a Lions fan I just cant wait until we use our first rounders the next couple years to go 6-11 in 2024

When do schools see which applicants have PTEd? Right on April 30th or the day after on May 1st?

The sooner this is over the better lol

yeah, this confused me too. i dont even understand how PTE would help schools figure out their waitlist. i would have thought CTE would. come to find out, schools all have diff cte dates. this whole thing just confuses me

Since you can only PTE at one school starting tomorrow, those with multiple A's have to give up (withdraw) their other acceptances and plan to enroll at just one. That's why it frees up room for WL people. They can stay on PTE at one school and remain on waitlists though.

Hey man, mark my words. You are going to end up with multiple admissions soon.

But thanks for the meme. This was me when I started the process 2 years ago not knowing where I will end up, where I was heading.

The stress and failures pushed me. I cried, I was sad, but just simply tried, did my best.

I ain’t the smartest cookie, not the 4.0 sgpa, cgpa and 528 Mcat guy. But I made it this year.

I believe and I will do my best, and I hope I will do well in the future.
Thank you Geodude!! Hoping this comes true 🙏🏻

So, just to confirm: accepted applicants should narrow their acceptances to one by tomorrow and withdraw from all other schools, but they do not need to select PTE at any medical school? Are there any soft/generally accepted guidelines about when to actually select PTE at a school? Are there any disadvantages to selecting PTE in regards to WL acceptances?

You have to PTE to one school tomorrow, but you are allowed to remain on any waitlist. Once you CTE to a school (this date is school dependent), you have to withdraw from any waitlists that you are on. If you do not PTE (universal date is 4/30) the school may assume you do not want the acceptance and rescind it.

Hey guys,

I am a second-time applicant. I was waitlisted last year and this year for the same school—so I met with the Director of Admissions twice for interviews (2020 and 2021). At my last interview, the director encouraged me to start applying for scholarships even though decisions did not come out yet (at the time). It made me really hopeful, but I ended up getting waitlisted. Has anyone ever experienced this before? High hopes (and assurance), followed by a waitlist/rejection? I’ve been struggling a lot from the anxiety of this entire process... And I have a lot of fear that is preventing me in starting the reapp process.
I totally feel this

Is it normal for schools to send you an email asking ppl to withdraw from the waitlist? Or is that just something new for this year?
There is only benefit to the school to make this request. People are supposed to drop any WL school that they really don’t think would replace their current A if provided a new Acceptance.

Just curious does anyone know the WL that will occur as of mvmt for MD vs DO? Just curious

It has started in some schools. One SdnEr in this thread posted an A this evening.

But it is safe to assume WL movement anytime now, definitely starting over the weekend. This is for MD. Not sure about DO.
Right I meant who gets more mvmt? If anyone knew?

To clarify,

this is not posted as a list of schools that discourage. Rather this is a list of what many schools state about reapplication and should be considered by all potential reapplicants to all schools. Each individual situation is different but generally do not reapply unless you have identified the weaknesses in your application and have addressed them. The issue is most applicants do not realize from the moment you originally submitted AMCAS is when you need to start addressing these issues. If you do so only after you have been rejected in a cycle, you do not have nearly enough time to effect change for an immediate reapplication.

Additionally, most premeds usually see things in far too optimistic light and say "I was just late in applying" or "it was a bad LOR," to justify an immediate reapplication. Please dont fool yourself in rushing a reapplication. Lastly, most students do not realize that many schools have a two application limit and will not consider a third application.

Is it a corollary to this general dissuasion to not apply back to back, that it much more applies to non WL previous applicants? If a WL applicant who by definition was good enough to attend if there was room enough, adds a year of goodness to their app, wouldn’t it be pretty safe to think it would yield them the A?
