Not sure if it's been discussed before in this thread - but at some point in the next weeks/months will it help or hurt to inform adcoms that you have no acceptance, and will definitely matriculate if accepted? Sort of like a mini-LOI, except your desperation is your leverage lol. I've already sent a LOI and letters of continued interest.

I was always under the impression that LOIs have the most meaning when you are holding another/multiple acceptances. That isn’t to say that you can’t write one if you are not holding acceptances. Your question is very school specific because it depends whether you are on ranked or unranked waitlists. The wisdom I always hear is that this part of the process really comes down to fit/desirability. Some schools will seek the most desirable WL candidates who are willing to drop all of their acceptances the next day to attend (think about it like dating where everyone wants to date the person who is being pursued by others). Other schools will go to waitlists and pick candidates who demonstrate strong fits. In either case, a LOI will help you if you show your intent/fit. On ranked/tiered WL, it’s harder to say what the impact of a LOI is since you have a score. It probably is like a tiebreaker between similarly scored candidates. This is just my 2¢.
 
Those who are preparing for the possibility of having to reapply... how much are you changing on your application? Are you rewriting your 15 experiences / personal statement? Asking for new LORs or using old or a mix? Thanks in advance! Trying to prepare for the worst but still hoping for the best as the first week of May approaches!

I think if your LOI already mentioned that you would 100% attend that school if accepted, then there is no reason to send the LOD(letter of desperation haha). Like @Gbz1104 mentioned schools want the most attractive applicants with the best fit. Sending a LOD could a. make you seem unattractive b. make them doubt how genuinely in love you are with their program. Instead if your original LOI didn’t mention that the school was your top choice, then you can send another LOI stating so.

For me I felt pretty strong about my personal statement so I don’t think I’ll be changing it too much and then just revising my activities, categorizing them a little differently because I feel like the way I had them organized wasn’t the best possible one and also adding a couple more from this past year. Also currently registered and studying to retake the mcat but the changes are making me a little nervous about whether I’ll actually be able to improve my score so we shall see! I also plan on adding one more MD recommendation from recent work experience and implementing whatever changes I need to make based on feedback from rejected schools. Hope this helps!

Hey guys I’m on only one waitlist from applying to only ONE MD school in October (I know so late!) which interviewed me in February. (I also applied to two DO schools which totally ignored me, maybe due to high MCAT?) I’m trying to have hope this upcoming week! Good luck everyone!
 
One more day until April 30th ! We got this hopefully acceptances start coming in soon . I feel like this week has been passing very slowly but silently. Hopefully there’s just a large wave of movement during these next two days and all of next week!

Regular vs High priority waitlist: I'm on the regular waitlist at CMSRU and wanted to know if anyone here knows anyone there who has been accepted from the regular waitlist (this cycle or in the past). I'm wondering if I have a shot iA.
 
I'm sure a lot of people are in the same boat... furloughed from work right now and sitting on two waitlists. Gearing up to start another application cycle but really hoping some good news is just around the corner. Good luck to everybody!

Almost there, everyone! Tomorrow and Friday are big days.

On a side note, and I know it's been mentioned earlier: I am so inspired by everyone in this thread and how y'all are encouraging one another. I was in much the same boat too; I was WLed at my top choice since February and the wait was so bad (finally got the call two weeks back!). I wish I found this thread earlier honestly just for the encouragement; it would have made the wait a lot better knowing so many others were in the same situation. I'd be honored to have everyone on this thread as fellow classmates, because y'all's positivity is just so good.

I'm sitting right there with y'all waiting, and I'm praying and hoping for the best. Stay strong, you got this, and I'm proud of you wherever you're at!

When I interviewed there I talked to an M1 who got in after being on the regular WL last year!

Yes, I believe so! Your acceptance at one school doesn't mean you automatically get taken off the other WLs. To get off your other WLs (aka assuming you're withdrawing), you'll have to contact the schools directly (that's what it's been in my experience).

Hi WL cohorts, just chiming in to say I am officially desperate for some comradery ... applied late-ish (D.O.), 3 II, 2 WLs and 1 R.

I went into my second cycle discouraged and half-hearted and ended up loving one of the schools I am WL’ed to. I have put my (and my husband’s) whole life on hold for this.

Literally, we didn’t renew our lease and moved in with family and now have 2+ hr daily commutes.

LET ME IIIN, BCOM. Please! :arghh:
 
Hi all anyone here knows if it is bad to send an LOI to the top school where I got waitlisted and after 4/30 the school will be like this guy doesn't get into anywhere yet and but trying to beg for a seat so he is probably not well qualified?

I sent one to my top choice in November after they waitlisted me then, and at the time they were my only II. Maybe I shouldn’t have? 😕

i am not sure of that but i think you misunderstood my question. Let me make it more clear. so to the best of my understanding is that school(s) where we are on the waitlist now can know whether or not we have been accepted by running a detailed report. With that being said, if we have no acceptance anywhere but just waitlist (regardless of one or ten WL), they will know after tomorrow. Now, my concern is if we send a letter of intent NOW to one school, it may make us look inferior because it is like we are begging for a seat (although we are lol)

Ahhh, I understand now. Sorry for not responding correctly previously. In my opinion, you may as well shoot your shot. At this point, even if you don't have any acceptances, you may as well let the program know you are highly interested. I'd make sure to give them the reasons for your interest as well. Maybe they take it the wrong way, but you don't know if they will or not. And at this point, you might as well try. I don't think you have anything to lose.

I for one am not above begging lol. After all, schools want to take the people off their waitlist who are guaranteed to come. I am in a similar position, and I know for sure that there are people staying on the wait list at this school hoping for a better financial aid offer than what they got from current acceptances, meaning they are not 100% sure to attend if accepted. Meanwhile, those of us who are WL and, indeed desperate, are in fact more reliable to enroll. I dont think being WL'd means you're any less qualified than someone else on the WL, if they see you fitting with their mission/student body/expectations, and know you're a definite yes (regardless if it's due to a lack of other options lol) idk why that would be seen negatively.

But maybe I'm just projecting because I'm in the same boat haha.
 
feeling extra bummed today. constantly anxiously checking my email and then just feeling sad. started reading my mcat books again, gearing up for another cycle. i know there are a lot of applicants and not everybody can get in, but it just sucks to feel like these schools don't feel like you're good enough. sorry for the negativity, this thread has been really good at being positive but i just cant help feeling like this

Why do schools that wait until the end of the cycle to use the waitlist start on May 1 instead of April 30, since April 30 they can run the reports? Just wondering if I’m missing something

My guess is that applicants still have tomorrow to narrow down their decisions. So the medical schools can expect a lot of flux to take place tomorrow-hence why they start on May 1st when people have made their decisions and things have settled down.

Yep. And given that we're close to the end of the work week (May 1 is a Friday), I'm betting most of the traffic day-related waitlist movement is really going to happen next week and not in the next two days.

I agree that the positivity of this thread has helped me stay positive, but I don't think it would be much of "support" thread if you can't post your negative thoughts too. I've had a particularly bad day as well, so know that you aren't alone. Tomorrow is a new day with new coping mechanisms! We gotta keep working on the things we can change, and do our best to let go of the ones we can't

Ah yes that makes sense, thanks guys! It’s funny how when you’re waiting for something one day can feel like the difference of a week

Probably not until after May 15th for osteopathic schools, but even that’s not a guarantee

After May 15, AACOMAS reports to each institution the names and candidates for its entering class who hold an acceptance(s) at additional institutions. An osteopathic medical college may rescind an offer of admissions to a candidate who has paid deposits to or holds positions at multiple institutions. If the osteopathic medical college chooses to withdraw the candidate from the entering class, the college must give the candidate a minimum 15-day notice. After the 15-day notice, if the candidate does not respond and is withdrawn from a college, the deposit is forfeited, and the seat may be given to another candidate. Therefore, prior to May 15, applicants need to withdraw from any college(s) which they do not plan to attend and only hold a position at one COM to avoid having positions withdrawn.

*Not trying to be a downer, just a realist. I know some schools overcommit with their As and treat their WL as true “alternates.”
