I've been stalking this thread for a few weeks now and just wanted to say that I am incredibly privileged to have multiple DO acceptances, however, I am waitlisted at my only MD II and its only 30 minutes away from home and my dream school since I decided I wanted to pursue medicine. The DO school that I am planning on attending starts a whole month before waitlist movement ends at the MD school. I'm hesitant to make any set plans at the DO school (also 6 hours away from home) in the hopes that I'll get off the waitlist. They have a history of having waitlist movement the first week and then nothing, so I'm not even sure if it is a possibility at this point. Everytime I get a phone call with our area code, my heart stops and it always ends up being a spam call. Hoping that next week I answer and it's some good news rather than someone trying to talk to me about car insurance. Manifesting A's for all of us so we can get our lives figured out!!

Yea the mid june CTE for many schools may seem like a date of interest. It just sucks because I need to plan my life these next few months and the same consists of putting my two weeks in as well as moving across the country; all which would suck doing last minute

Yeah CTE for the school I’m WL at is June 5th and it’s radio silence on sdn and the fb group just goes up and down by 1 or 2 everyday 😭

Manifesting this A for next week 🙂 Good luck everyone and hang in there as best as you can, we got this! Something that has really helped tame my anxiety is meditation, so I would really encourage it if you feel that you're starting to spiral.
 
Is anyone else waiting for SKMC to start the waitlist movement if it hasn't already happened (I have not heard of any occurrences). It is just such a large class for there to be no waitlist movement and it has been so oddly quiet. I agree that perhaps there are just higher yields this year and abnormal waitlist movement. Just wondering if anyone had any insights on this.

My understanding is unranked WL are unranked bc they aren’t set in stone with an overall order not necessarily bc they don’t have priority people on the WL. Every time a spot opens they likely aren’t meeting and going through 100+ applications. They pull people that are of a similar demo/stats of the person who turned it down to keep the class balanced.

Also this early in May people might be given more Time to decide if they are accepted bc CTE deadlines aren’t until June. After 4/30 schools have to give a minimum of 5 business days for someone to accept an offer. also possible schools gave out less As and more WL so there’s less people with multiple acceptances so classes aren’t shifting as much. All of these things seem more likely than schools being unable to decide or the CYMS glitch being the reason there’s little to no movement at some schools.

Hey guys, new to SDN. I've been lurking for a while and just made an account cuz I need some advice!!! 😵

So I'm currently waitlisted at 1 MD school, and I called them to get some info about my standing on their ranked waitlist. Paraphrasing, they told me this: Movement from the waitlist just started last week, but slowly (btw there has been nothing but silence in the SDN thread). They can't guarantee that they will get to my position, but generally speaking, I'm in a good spot. They actually told me that they reached my position on the waitlist last year and in 2021, and so far the waitlist is moving similarly to previous years so I have reason to remain optimistic. Waitlist movement usually starts off slow because students have more time in May to weigh their options regarding where they want to go. But this year, they need to have their class finalized one month sooner than previous years because classes start in July instead of August now, so movement should be quicker this year. The commit to enroll deadline is 21 days prior to orientation (Orientation this year is at the end of July).

My predicament comes with re-applying. I need to re-write my MCAT because my scores are from 4 years ago now, and I'm just now starting to plan out a study schedule. I'm just not sure if it is worth re-applying this coming cycle if my test date is going to be in early August, because my application probably won't be reviewed until my new MCAT score comes back in early September. Fortunately, since I'm re-applying, I have my primary and secondaries from last year to get things submitted quicker.

I know this is a long post, but do you guys think I should start on the MCAT study grind now and work on my re-app? Or just take the risk and pray to the waitlist gods that I get in based on what I've been told by admissions? I've already taken 2 gap years, and don't really want to take 2 more... I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now ahhhh
 
Random question about CTE. Is the CTE deadline for a school the last day for waitlist movement or can there still be movement after CTE?

There can still be movement. The CTE is the final day everyone currently with an A must commit. It’s very likely after that day that for some schools the class won’t be full and more people will move off the WL.
 
How many LOIs are too many? I sent one update letter after the interview, one letter of interest after being placed on the WL, and a letter of intent a few weeks ago. People say to avoid looking desperate, I am DESPERATE. 💩:dead:

Personally, I would probably avoid sending another letter of intent since it won't convey anything to new to adcoms; they already know that you will go there if you're offered admission. Unfortunately, all we can do right now is wait and/or prepare for plan B 😢

I called my waitlist as well and got told waitlist movement has started, and they could not tell me my position in the ranked list.
Basically, I left that conversation with the exact same information I came in with.

There's still hope! I think we need to keep in mind that movement can start off slow because students getting off WLs in May still have some time to weigh their options and don't need to CTE for several weeks still.
 
Does anyone know what happens if I commit to enroll to my acceptance at the deadline but get into my top choice waitlist after I’ve committed? Like can I drop the commitment and switch to the other school? Because the deadline for CTE for the school I got into is June 2nd, but the deadline for my waitlist school is June 16th :/

Once you CTE, you have to drop all WLs. So you wouldn’t be able to get in after you commit unfortunately🙁
 
Does anyone know if accepting a waitlist offer on my school’s portal mean that I cannot accept a waitlist offer further down the line? My school states that I have a week to accept their offer & PTE on AMCAS before it is withdrawn & I don’t know if accepting the offer is binding or if I can remain on my other waitlists. The CTE date isn’t until July 1.

PTE is not binding but you can only mark PTE at one school at a time.
If you don't want this offer to be taken away then accept and mark PTE by the date they gave you.

You may still remain on WLs for now, but at some point you will need to finalize things and mark CTE, no more switching to other schools or being on WLs after you do that.
 
Can someone explain why the AMCAS CTE deadline is 4/30 when most schools don't have a CTE deadline until June or July? Like what's the motivation for someone to mark CTE in AMCAS months before their school's deadline, assuming that they have an A there?

AMCAS PTE deadline is 4/30 not CTE. This just means if you have an A you have to select one school you plan to enroll at. You can switch this if you have multiple As but you can only PTE one school at a time. PTE doesn’t remove you from waitlists at other schools. When someone CTEs it pulls other As the person has but they are responsible for notifying schools they are WL at.

TMDSAS schools have been regularly making offers to WL people starting the first week of March. It usually gets a little busier in the last half of May after some folks leave a Texas school behind for an AMCAS acceptance.
 
is it worth sending a LOR? In the WL update email i got from admissions they encourage updates and said we could email LORs if we wanted. My boss said she'd gladly write me one and email it to them. My concern is that I currently work full-time in a non-healthcare field (data analyst pharma marketing) so she can speak highly of me as a person and my skills but she has no medical background or anything. Should I still do it?

I'm currently preparing my reapplication. Just for future purposes, for update letters/letters of intent, do you address the dean of admissions or the admissions committee? And is it fine to send update letters if there are no significant updates? (Eg, continued the same volunteering, clinical, research). I like staying at one place for longer periods of time as long as I'm learning.
