2023-2024 UT Southwestern (UTSW)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
correct me if I’m wrong, but this is the first round of prematches that include IS students. So there should be a few more that we can count on!
Many who were offered admission on October 16 were Texas residents.
Even if you're disappointed about this round of prematch offers, keep in mind that most Texas applicants who get a match on Match Day had no previous prematch offers at all.

in case yall dont know-there is a Facebook group called Medical School Class of 2028-UT Southwestern if yall wanted to join!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Please only request to join this Facebook group if you have been accepted. It was created and is maintained by UTSW staff + current students volunteering for admissions.

The past few years, UTSW has seen some waitlist and match day action (maybe because Baylor joined TMDSAS?).

Excited to meet everyone who prematches in January!

I'm an IS applicant, does UTSW accept letters of intent? Just wanted to make sure before I wrote one, thanks!

Yes! Haven’t seen otherwise, I did one myself last year.
Great thank you! I wanted to make sure so I didn't bug them if they didn't accept them. Did you address it to the admissions committee or a specific person? I'm having difficulty finding the Director of Admissions for UTSW.

I did both actually. I also had a hard time finding that so I addressed it to the Dean of med students and the admissions committee. Not sure who actually read it, but didn't hurt to throw a wide net

Address it to the admissions committee, as in "Dear Admissions Committee"

I think the admissions committee members being hard to find is on purpose 🙂

Hi everyone! I got accepted last week, but it said something about accepting the offer within 2 weeks. I'm not ready to commit, so does anyone know if the two weeks is a hard deadline or just a recommendation? Thanks!

Accepting is not binding at this point.
If you’re a Texan you will find out your school on Match Day in February
If you’re OOS you can hold offers for further decision on your part until April.

BUT if you don’t reply by the 2 week deadline they can remove you from their class roster assuming you do not want to go here

You must accept every medical admission or else you have rejected it and they move on to next person in their list.

Is it likely to match into UTSW? Interviewed here in early September and haven't heard back. I've heard this school is very prematch heavy, so I'm curious if anyone has information from the past on how many students get in through the TMDSAS match.

They do offer a lot during prematch period, but some also get in on Match Day, especially since some people who interviewed with UTSW have had multiple interviews and they can only enroll at one

Would it be advisable to write a letter of intent as an in-state student if this is our first choice school? I'm assuming it wouldn't be terribly effective since the match would signify our interest.

Shoot your shot, you never know

i sent a letter of interest after my interview. would it be too desparate to send a letter of intent before the december wave or should i wait to hear back?

I was planning on taking a class at my undergraduate institution in the spring and indicated that class as "planned future coursework" and put in XXX as the name. I have since decided to take it another institution in the spring and am in the process of registering. When should I update TMDSAS of this change?

you can send a letter of update if you want to mention some important changes. it is too early to send another letter of intent. Might make more sense in January.
