2025-2026 Boston University Secondary Essay Prompts (character count changed to 300 words)

1. Do you hope to attend medical school immediately after earning your undergraduate degree? If no, describe how you've spent your time leading up to applying to medical school. This may include attending a post-baccalaureate program or other education, gap year activities such as employment or travel, or other relevant pursuits. (300 words)

2. Provide a timeline or narrative highlighting any notable aspects of your educational journey that you believe are especially relevant or significant to us better understanding who you are. Section not required but...this is an opportunity to describe any learning experience(s) that are not covered in other sections of your supplemental application or AMCAS application. For example, have you lived in another country or experienced a culture unlike your own? Worked in a field that contributed to your understanding of people unlike yourself? Do you have advanced training in art, music, or sports, etc.?

You may also use this section to explain any impacts that COVID-19 may have had on your educational/research/clinical/volunteering or employment plans. (300 words)

3. Why BU Chobanian & Avedisian SOM? Boston Medical Center is the largest safety net hospital in New England, serving primarily people who are publicly insured, people of color, immigrants, and low-income people in the Greater Boston Area. Why are you specifically interested in beginning your medical education in this environment, and how do you feel that your previous experiences will prepare you for this unique learning environment? (300 words)

4. [OPTIONAL] Use this space to provide any additional information you feel will provide us with a comprehensive understanding of your strengths as a candidate for a career in medicine. Do not include information already provided in your AMCAS application or other sections of the supplemental application. Most students leave this blank. (300 words)

5. [REAPPLICANTS ONLY] Use this space to highlight aspects of your application that have changed since your last application. (300 words)

Good luck to all applying!

just fyi if anyone else is in the same boat:
I got an email today for the secondary app, pending I set up a BU Web Account, which was supposed to come in a different email (haven't gotten it yet, not in my spam or junk folders). I sent them an email regarding the situation.

Thanks @AniKar8

I'll wait to pin these questions until I see confirmation from someone who is not a re-applicant (just in case you could just see these from your last year's application cycle).

I got the email to set up account but it won’t let me log in !

I just got the e-mail saying I will get another e-mail with login credentials in a day or two, and then a secondary. I think they are just moving slowly

I haven't received any secondaries or email from them yet. Should I reach out or be concerned?
If they are having an issue with their system, do not expect a secondary soon. Even if things are working fine, it is still early July. Most schools send these out in batches over time.

I just got the IT email to set up an account, and the link is broken haha. Oh well, plenty of other secondaries that I've been procrastinating on

I got the email to set up my account but not the one with the secondaries

Thanks @AniKar8

+1 OOS

I can confirm that the prompts are all the same, just changed to 300 word limits. First time applicant.

I got the link to make an account, but the page just times out. I hope they know there's an issue

New prescreening strat, only give random applicants access to the portal 😉

Still haven't received any emails from them, hopefully they get whatever tech issues sorted out

Ok following up to say I was able to make an account. But I never received an actual link to the secondary portal where I can use the login....lol🤣
Maybe one day I will be able to submit this secondary??

For me the link was in both the "application received" and "initial contact" emails. it took a few hours for my login to work.

I’m confused. Do they email their secondary to everyone or do you have to log into some account?

Thank you, I feel so dumb. The link was Iiterally in the first e-mail they sent me, but I had archived it because I was waiting for the account creation e-mails. Their IT guy must be really questioning how I'm possibly smart enough to apply to medical school 🤣

Thank you for saying this because I just noticed it too!

I have not received any communication from them including “application received”. Anyone else?

Where are you seeing the repplicant essay? Can't seem to find it rip. ty

Does anyone else get the message "BU login was successful but no record is found in our admission system" when logging in?

Does it show up for anyone that casper results were received? All other schools that I applied to have already had my results for weeks.

Mine is the same: "No CASPer scores received yet"

Most likely someone has to manually mark them as received.

Yes it took forever for me. I had the most difficulty getting into the Boston supplement.
Do you mind if I ask how you resolved it? I sent an email to see if I could get a QR code or activation code to access my Duo Mobile Account. I am a reapplicant but I deleted the duo mobile app so I am not currently logged in.

I downloaded Duo again. I emailed IT [email protected] that I was having difficulty signing in, and I gave the error code I was seeing. They basically had to reset my access.

BU was my dream college growing up and I got accepted, but couldn't attend due to cost. Is this worth mentioning in the "why us" essay? Thx

okay gotcha I did the same on saturday, hopefully they take a look after the weekend
I would also reach out to admissions if you don't hear back from IT in a couple days, or if you still have trouble logging in even after they help.
